My friend, who used to be an LAPD police officer, told me that women should always use the buddy system: he was talking about not walking alone to your car; even when you know how to defend yourself, he still thinks it's a good idea not to walk alone at night.
He was even inclined to believe men could benefit from the buddy system.
BTW he's still a police officer. He works in a different state now.
