in this trailer: boxy black tvs, boxy cars, grl-power feminism, "shuuut up", smoking pot, coffee shop, floral print baby doll dress, VHS resolution.
funny how the 90s asthetic is slowly crystalizing as we become distanced from it. makes me wonder if people 20 years from now will look back on the 00 decade and think HDTV, 3D everything, constant superhero movies, reality tv, social networks, and hipster indie whatnot.
I was in college when this movie came out, and the only scene I remember clearly is when Winona's character (I don't even remember their names) goes to a job interview, and the woman who is interviewing her asks her to define "irony", and she just fumbles, looking for the right words, while the elevator doors close in on her... Scary as shit!
I saw this movie when it came out and I was just a kid and I thought it was funny. Then I saw this movie again when I was in my 20s and suddenly it was really fucking true. Maybe I'll see this movie in my 50s and complain about their haircuts.
@bowiehs The 90's sucked, and I'm not saying this to sound like a troll. Gangsta rap, sleazy talk shows, 900 number scams. I remember like it was 2 weeks ago saying (in the 90's) that these times suck, and I miss the 80's.
@ejdf870 I agree on some things but not the music. I guess it depends on your type of music because I didnt listen to much rap but R&b and the music scene was 100 times better than it is today. Now everything is about sex and money, it was`nt always like that back than. Also the movies had great stories without being so much predictable and cheesy. I think we both can agree that these times-00`s is not better than the older days when things made better since.
I'm 25 years old and I remember when this movie came out. I finally saw the entire movie this year and I love it. I can relate to the things they were going through. Plus it was such a great depiction of what the 90's were like. I miss that decade, way before cell phones and internet.
@elmando5 Uh.....actually the internet exploded in 1995 (with Windows 95), and cell phones were around since the late 80's. Not as popular as now, but they had them.
@elmando5 Wasn't really way before internet and cellphones though...it was in the beginning of 90's when the cellphones and internet started to emerge in the household and be used for private matters. This was before internetporn though...came around 1998 if I'm correct. But still yes, millions already used cellphones and internet in 1994 when this film came out...
Great movie. Winona Ryder is one of the most talented actresses ever. She was on the top in the 90's but unfortunately she isn't nowadays. I hope Star Trek (2009) and The Informers will help her to get a good roles. Winona was amazing in Reality Bites. The same with Ethan Hawke - impressive acting. Janeane Garofalo, Steve Zahn and Ben Stiller did a great job too.
winona es muy bonita sobre todo en esta pelicula me gusta su look
