...Hakim Workneh was not only a great patriot.He was also a humanist of wide symphathies

who was particularly ardent in his quest for the abolition of slavery.

My book-loving friends are telling me that the good Addis Ababa University Press has recently published the remarkable Hakim's memoir.

I know, from reading his other works, that Hakim Workneh writes a majestic prose akin to that of Gibbon.

While thanking in advance the Uni Press,I’ll soon read the memoir of this great Ethioipian.

...According the historian, Bahru Zewde, Hakim Workneh was a superintendent of the Teferi Mekonen School and a director of yet another school for emancipated slaves. He was also a progressive governer of the model province of Chercher and later an Ethiopian minister to London during the invasion of the country by fascist Italy. In London, he fought against the onslaught of Fascist Propaganda with great diplomatic skill, deligence and dignity assisted by the the wonderful Sylvia Pankhurst....

and he grew up and went to school in Great Britain.
