  • He played so much, he palms turned white.

  • Hey! TRY enable this movie 3 times, this is amazing!

  • sei un maestro cazzo grande

  • Grew up as a piano player, yet hand drum is my dream. This has helped alot. Rhythm is Power

  • Normally i'm not listening to Gregorian musik, but this one's good.

  • Man, you CAN play...

  • For such a big headed djembe, why is there no good boom tone in the middle??? Or is he just focusing on slaps? This is what scares me about buying djembe's, they all sound different & at $350+ each, it's a gamble to find the right one. I want a deep boom tone. I notice he keeps forgetting to let the bottom breathe when he holds it straight up instead of leaning it as it needs to be.

  • @gmj2012 your latter point might explain the lack of boom

  • @MajestyOvTheNightSky It's possible, it really sounds off for a djembe, not sure of it's an audio issue or the drum itself. I've had smaller ones give incredible boom even when held up in the air off ground totally. Even the little kid's djembe (I got via ebay rip off) with only a 5.24" head has a louder boom than this, I'm planning to do a video of me trying to play that (for laughs) soon.

  • @gmj2012 I think it may be the camcorder filming him, since it's not a drum mic as is usually done to capture this music, and the camcorder was far enough away it was catching some of the location echoes. At least his playing is incredible, just wish it were a true djembe sound.

  • you think this guys good...listen to Dan Coury

  • Wow... Incredible. Respect!

  • this man is a marvelous gift of GOD!

  • ghandhem!!!!

  • that is a 9 digit phone number, right? I'm not going crazy here? Is this video from the early 1900s?

  • Drum circles are a great way for people of all abilities to access rhythm. This guy plays with complete virtuosity. He is a djembe fola. These things have nothing in common.

    Pzdr

  • che el fisico que pego es por tocar tanto el tamborsito?! yo quiero

  • I love drum circles, I do not care if there are some bad players, as long as there are enough good players. it's about playing together and being one. This concept of musician being on stage and people watching is a very new compared to history.... at a drum circle even the people just watching and listening are part of the circle... MORE COWBELL!!!!

  • earn them callouses..

Pape seck, aidara seck and papesamoire seck

  • super ;-)

  • quero aula contigo, como faço pra ter?

  • plus this dude has a really nice djembe.... and its tuned fairly well

  • Beautiful :)

  • I miss my djembe teacher, he had dred locks too! (always wore a shirt tho)

  • Sometimes, most of their rhythms are in 3.

And our up beat is their down beat, so that's why a lot of their playing sounds odd

  • do african players play odd time rythms?

  • yeah, westerners call it microtiming...

  • that´s amazing !!! I never heard so many brilliant and different sounds coming out of a djembe ... really mad skills

  • what wood do they make drums out of?

  • this guy is much better than the people you see at drum circles.

those people make the djembe sound horrible.

  • @glorplaxy Drum circles are about betting together and playing drums. No one is trying to impress anyone, we merely do it to have fun and to learn more about drumming! Get over it!

  • @glorplaxy what exactly is wrong with the vibe and energy of a drum circle?

I'm sat in the circle creating positive energy with the group even if some aren't as fluent as others, you are sat outside the circle creating bad energy - just a guess and just as big of a judgment as yours...

  • Comment removed

  • @glorplaxy you cant even compare the two i've been to both. west african drum and dance classes are more structured where each drummer learns and plays specific rythms in harmony. drum circles are more improvisational and can often get chaotic although i've seen some sweet music come out of drum circles if talented drummers get together. it's all part of the learning process we all struggle to Improve and hone our skills. all it takes is dedication and practice

  • @glorplaxy Drum circles are for learning, this man is good, but i am player just 10 years and i think that he is doing just 2 drumdolls. (with respect for kassoumsongo, i dont want be unpolited just i tell you my perspective) :)

  • @glorplaxy then youve obviously never been to a good drum circle...

  • @shmico you're right, I haven't been to a good drum circle because they all suck.

  • @glorplaxy No, YOU suck at finding good drum circles lol

  • @glorplaxy What an ignorant thing to say. I'll bet YOU are one of the biggest perpetrators of making the circle sound horrible. You are a dick.

  • @porkythepig007 How was what I had to say ignorant? You are probably just mad because you know that I am talking about you when I reference the 'tards at drum circles with their shitty drums and even shittier skills.

I don't make drum circles sound horrible because they are so bad to begin with that I wouldn't participate in them.

  • @glorplaxy If you're talking about the average hippie/middle aged guy trying to pick up girls by going to drum circles, then I can agree.

But there are some very talented drum circle players - just have to find the right circle. I recommend Prospect Park in NYC every Sunday of the summer. Some of the people that play there are djembefola status.

Not that this guy is bad. His stuff is interesting too.

  • Hey redbull - This is West African Djembe Kan. Kan means solo in Mandinka but the idea is for the soloist to demonstrate his skill in free expression. There are many rhythms there, many more that you won't understand without the underlying pulse, and a fair bit of free playing. It's classic djembekan and this guy is good. Search for djembekan and see other examples by Mamady Keita and Seckou Keita amongst others.

  • yah man....hes good. This is the first good djembe player i've seen on youtube and i watch a ton of these videos. I play the djembe myself

  • tres beau, tres fin !
