Hi. I just recenlty advanced from technician to general, and one of the questions i had to study for was... Why isn't FM Phone used below 29.5 mhz.
Answers was, the bandwith would exceed FCC Limits
Didn't say not to use. or it was a rule of the fcc part 97 but i would guess this falls under using good amateur practice... Never could find where it said not to use it below 29.5 though. if someone does find it. please let me know so i can correct what i'm saying here
@RdustinJ wrong answer, because now there are narrow band +/- 2.5kc FM modes for HF. Many AM stations use more bandwidth than that, mine is right around +/-3kc and many people are running a good deal more than that.
There is no rule saying not to use FM on hf, doesn't exist. In fact, you can find FM below 29.5 all the time on 10 meters, the JA's often hang out around 29.3 or 29.4, then you'll find us guys running am around 29.1 and we use even more bandwidth than the fm stations.
@Polybun well the answer was right on the test. So idk. Idk much anyways... only been a licensed ham for 3 months. Thanks for correcting me learn something new everyday
So let me ask, does this allow you to use almost any antenna and it just tunes it right in to the radio?
In other words I have a dual band Yaesu that covers 2 meters and 70 cm...I want to use it as a base radio but don't have an antenna...but I do have an 18 ft. tall Shakespeare 1/2 wave antenna for 11 meters....could one of these antenna tuners allow me to run my Yaesu 2m/70 cm ham radio on an 11 meter CB base station antenna w/o any issues?
@meangreen69Nova Well, this tuner is for HF bands only, 6m - 160m. So it wouldn't tune down to 2m/70cm unfortunately.
With this particular setup I had, i was using a dipole 2 lenghts of wire, and in the center I had them connected to 450 ohm ladderline. that ladderline came down to a 4-1 Balun (2wires -> coax).. coax into the tuner, Tuner into radio. the RF from the radio on HF would fire the tuner off if the SWR was not below like 1.3 to 1.
I like to know if this AT-100Pro Autotuner works with the Yaesu ft-100D, please respond before I decide to get this tuner it looks the way to go with my radio
Instead of manually reducing the RF output before you tune (which takes time and is pretty annoying) you can set the (voice/C.S.) button on the FT450 (row of buttons on the side of the unit, top left one) to output a 10w carrier when you press and hold it down. I use this now when tuning and it is much faster than having to go into the menu and manually setting the RF output. Page 16 of the FT-450 manual shows you how to set this feature up.
Noticed when you did the manual tune (holding down the button) it flashed the top bar indicating you didnt transmit the carrier for long enough for it to tune. These are great tuners - I have one as well, and its simply amazing how fast they tune once they have memorised the frequencies.
Eventually I will try and get around to a more detailed review. most of the features are advanced, and it tunes my Dipole so well I really have no need to touch them.
hi i have the yaesu ft-450 and the ldg at-600pro . do you need a interface cable to work the ldg at-600pro with my yaesu-ft 450. ?

Great Video. How did you reset the tuner to factory?

@mrantisocialguy Could you point me to the FCC regulation that says I cant use FM below 29.5 mhz?
now if your talking about the ARRL band plan, thats not an actual law, nor is it enforced any anyone it is merely a guideline.
