@snakecharmer37 The closest a previous regeneration ever remotely came close to being "death" for the Doctor was 5's regeneration into 6 at the end of "The Caves of Androzani." The Doctor had been poisoned, and moments before regenerating, asked, "Is this death?" But in that case, the regeneration was spontaneous at the end of the story, and was not something that had been dragged out the entire story. As for River Song, my guesses are anyone between Susan Foreman and Romana to a new Time Lord.

After The End of Time, the Time Lords are well and truly dead (or at least permanently hosed), and the time vortex itself is out of control. It's rebelling in a sense.

I think RTD intentionally wrote it with the fangirlies and Tennant worshippers in mind, as to make it as agonizing as possible. Thereby breeding obvious hate for Moffat's turn at the series. "Some new man goes slaughtering away, and I'm dead." is a bit melodramaic; he isn't DYING, just getting a new personality. Ack....don't get me started on how often RTD went way over the top with drama again...Moffat has been spot on.

In my opinion, both themes are very good, they are just built for the vortex they are in.

10th doctor, for instance, was a very high-speed and action sort of theme, matching the movement of the vortex. 11th doctor's theme is very mysterious and dangerous, which definitely is shown in the rolling clouds of time and the lighting bolts from all sides.

If you were to match the themes with the other vortexes then it wouldn't be very good.

Either way, they're masterpieces. and i love them. so much.

I personally love the new theme song and titles, I think it reflects the mystery and wonder in the show quite well. The music isn't too loud and overpowering, it's just enough. I love the part when the DW flashes up and the music's at its loudest, it gives me chills :]

There is no way that I could ever want Tennant back. He was ok, but his Doctor was a simpering little girl.

Matt Smith is taking us back to how the Doctor used to be... When the series ran for 26 years straight. And as someone who was raised watching Doctor Who in the 1970's I am so pleased that the show is finally getting back on track.

RTD and Tennant were ok, but Doctor Who is now back to being kick arse!

I think Matt Smith is great as the Doctor. At first I had my doubts, but I think now he nailed it. David Tennant was great as well, but he was too much of a comedian for my taste.

With Steven Moffat as the main writer and producer the show now finally seems to take a more serious approach. Alot of the episodes with David Tennant are set in London, which is boring. I want to see aliens, other planets, and spacebattles dammit.

Matt Smith is good. But the stories so far are dull and feel rushed. But this new intro does not rush: it's like watching a colonoscopy in slow motion, while being forced to listen to a pointless fanfare. This show needs to go back to being creepy and treating the audience as adults. But as usual the BBC deliberately miss the point and ruin Doctor Who by turning it into a camp kids' show.

The show was always a family show, heavily dosed with tropes for children. The original treatments talk about how the program was supposed to be an educational vehicle for children.

I'm not trying to start a thing with you, but I find it interesting that many people think the show was for grown-ups from their childhood point of view. It was never for adults per se, it was always diluted for kids. Ever since 1963.

in the case of him falling slowly through the time vortex and uncontrollably you have to remember for those who watched that he was wrestling to keep the tardis under control wile running on minimal power so i think they reflected it in this initial episodes introduction with the tardis moving very slowly and being struck by the lightning

I love the new theme, but it certainly does feel empty after the main melody kicks in- the orchestral/bassline beginning is brilliant... but then it loses it's energy or drive and sounds hollow. Still, I was impressed with Matt Smith's persona as The Doctor. It must be so awesome to play that role, as it seems to me the actors pretty much decide how they want the character to be. Best show ever.

But if it were up to me, this is what I would change:

-Less lightning strikes or remove them altogether

-Lower the volume on lightning sound effects

-Title flies in without new DW logo

-Title letters fade out minus the D and W

-The D and W merge into new DW logo

-DW logo morphs into Tardis

-Tardis flies off into distance

Hmm not a big fan of this new intro in all honesty, the start of it doesnt even sound like Doctor Who (I mean you can even hear the 'dummdeedum' which is blasphamous to the Doctor Who legend) and the graphics looks like hes just tried to copy what Russle T. Davis did only not as good, some originality would have been nice with the graphics and non-originality with the theme basicly. Still the episode was kick ass though
