I am an artist with oversensitive hearing. I am overwhelmed by sound and i have great problems with stress and concentration and anxiety and headaches because of this. Someone can easily tell me to wear earplugs or noise blocking headphones, but this doesn't work because I can still hear and even when all that noise is gone, there is a horrible ringing noises in my head. I just want to be able to do my work, but I can't concentrate because of so many noises. Can hearing be a disability?
If the parent is doing it out of love and they truly feel it is the best thing for their child, I can't see any fault with that. But if they are doing it just so they will be like everyone else or be "normal" and it is only out of some kind of social fears, then it is very wrong.
My child is hard of hearing and I have to say that I would never implant her even if she was 100% deaf. That's for her to decide if it comes up. The only disability they really have is a language barrier. You don't consider someone who speaks another language than you as being 'disabled' do you? If it is a disability it's amazing to know how they've come up with their own culture and language in spite of the oppression they've gone through and still come up standing tall. Deaf Pride PAH!
Virgingorda2, you asked me if i was 100 % deaf, would i allow myself to have CI. NO!! I would not go for it. I will not risk health problems from CI from what I have been hearing about it.. So I highly doubt that i would go for it. :) Have a great weekend! God bless!
@sanzyuryu hahaha stupid.. it was a copy paste of the comment u said, and it was written 12hours ago.. it is in french. but of course Im the one who' making no sens... im telling you about respect and see how ur reacting?? so silly
@noulmiit Oh, I know what it meant, the issue was I didn't understand the CONTEXT in which it was written. Again, just some BLATHER from the incoherent. So, teacher, why don't you teach me about respect, since you seem to think that is your job. And I am stupid? You are quite comical yourself simpleton.
@noulmiit By the way, I won't be quiet just because you tell me to. I have the RIGHT to speak my mind and CHOOSE to exercise that RIGHT when someone is calling me to the carpet. If you want to have an intelligent debate without frustration, then quite simply....quit getting frustrated and rely on your own intelligence and merit to form such argument. Deaf people learn proper grammar when writing. This I KNOW for a FACT. If you choose not to then you are plain lazy.
One of the biggest things that comes to mind when I think of culture is music. I can't imagine depriving my infant child of the gift to hear, just so they could hang out with the deaf, in fear of not being teased by the evil hearing community, or so they could have a chance at having a lower paying job and lack of respect by those bastard "hearies". I have concluded here that you can't argue with anyone who is ignorant, let alone if they can hear or not...
Just because the hearing refuse to adapt doesn't mean the Deaf have no choice but conform to those in power. Those who think that all kids need the CI to be 'normal' do me a favor and define the word normal. Just because you can hear what a deaf person cannot doesn't make you a better person or your world the only reality that should exist. Think about all that the Deaf can see that hearing people manage to miss because their eyes and brain are not wired like that of a deaf person!
@AnitaByronofSL Likewise Anita, think of what a child would be missing because they are lacking one of their senses! Do you honestly believe that the "culture" would outweigh the benefits of a child to hear? Who gives a damn about the stigma of normality... that isn't even a question in my book. Of course someone who hears is no "better" because they can hear, but just like anyone, we should all get judged on our individual merits... just as the stupid old lady who couldn't form a sentence...
@AnitaByronofSL You are the only person here that says you have to conform with anyone in a place of power. This is the USA, where you don't have to do anything. Hell, you can sit on your butt and collect SSI, because you are handicapable! So many deaf people collect disability, but don't want to be classified as disabled or handicapped...what a double standard. We should all just do what we can to get along. I shouldn't be made to feel bad because I can hear and someone else cannot.
All these people calling deafness a disability.. honestly, how are they disabled? I haven't heard of deafness holding anybody back in anything but learning english grammar. My deaf friends all got better grades in public school than I did, they all are smart, well rounded people, they all function just as normally as I do. I can hear and they can't. What's the big deal? Do you feel disabled because you can't fly without a device aiding you?
@bgyoshi But what I won't agree on is the double standard that these people want. Ok, so far in this discussion, they wish to be treated the same, but exercise the right to live in a different culture, keep their kids from hearing so they don't miss out on all the greatness of being deaf (hogwash), then they tell me they don't wish to be treated differently, yet use the fact that they learn different structure in ASL, so they don't know how to form a sentence...totally hypocritical... (cont)
@bgyoshi Look, here is my bottom line. I know MANY deaf people here. They thrive. They don't hide behind their disability. It indeed is a disability, if nothing else but by definition. A culture is something to be proud of, but children should have a choice, and be afforded the opportunity to not be handicapped, just because their parents want them to be in the special deaf club. No matter if you are deaf or not, English is still the language...learn to write it correctly for hell sake...
@sanzyuryu It's a language, that's like saying people that speak spanish are disabled because they don't have fantastic grammar. By your definition of disability, unemployment is a disability too. They get special government funding, schools, scholarships (welfare).. No, a disability is something that impairs your physical movement or mental function. Deaf people are not impaired, they just can't hear.. they can move and think just as well as us hearing people can.
@bgyoshi We are talking about deafness, not unemployment. Two COMPLETELY different things...as I stated before. Your ability to compare analytically is remedial at best. Apples and Oranges dude. Welfare is for everyone...even the deaf...so...??? Just because you decide to leave something out of a definition, doesn't mean it to be so. Deafness is indeed a disability. Don't argue with me...argue with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which absolutely includes the deaf...
@bgyoshi Look man, I am far from "anti-deaf", but I have different opinions, that's all. My opinions are based on facts, definitions, and yes, just like you...life experiences. Argue your case all you want, but at least back it up with some facts, not just emotional rhetoric.
@sanzyuryu And you're right, kids should have their own choice. The problem is kids don't get a choice. They either get implanted at birth, or they're pressured into getting one. Not forced, no, they're just painted an overly glossy picture of a world with hearing so they don't get to make an objective decision. You can't really do that until you're an adult or at least your mid-teens. You have to know the pros and cons of everything and your OWN personal preferences.
@bgyoshi Bullshit. It is abusive to inflict a handicap on a child when there is a cure for such disability. This sounds like the parents (deaf) need to have a doll that is just like themselves...
I got a CI at the age of 18 months. Healthy as could be. There are exceptions to everything and this is no exception (heheh). What if I said "Cars are death sentences to your health"? I mean, they do seem to do more damage than CI's.... Pollution, accidents, danger, the environment, etc....
I am hard of hearing & wear hearing aides. I asked my dr one time if he think CI is good idea for me. He said that NOT ALL CI are safe. There are many risks involve. He said if i got CI & it no work out for me & then have it removed, what hearing i have left now I will never get it back. I will become totally deaf. I thought WHOA!!! I'm not gonna risk that & take a gamble over my hearing. If it wasn't successful, i will be deaf never wear hearing aides again. I'm glad i listened to my dr.
I think only those who have experienced this change of not hearing, 2 then hearing etc ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE RIGHT 2 COMMENT, HOW MANY OF U HAD AN OPINION THAT DO NOT HAVE A HEARING PROBLEM. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED 2 LIVE THEIR LIFE HOW THEY CHOOSE & SHARE THEIR OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IF THEY WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS. I AM NOT DEAF BUT I REFUSE 2 COMMENT EITHER WAY, BUT I WILL SAY 1 THING MY SON IS 2 & WE KNOW HE CANNOT HEAR 100% & I WANT ALL POINTS OF VIEW 2 MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE 4 HIM
@BlueFlamesHD1 Why should I learn american sign language, anyway... to understand what this man is saying?? That's what subtitles are for anyway. If you are deaf I guess you use them to watch movies, right? If deaf culture is so closed... then please set up a YouDeaf site... with no audio, really.
@noulmiit Another one of you who makes ZERO sense. 12 hours of what??? I learned to respect those that respect me. I can have an argument without being disrespectful, however, if you will read my earliest posts, I was demeaned first... You are right, I didn't go to the same school as you....thank God.
what about Nucleus 5? the new brand cochelar implants? yes I have seen 70 to 80% of deaf people against CI only BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID OF LOSING THIER CULTURE. Hey....dont worry, CI NEVER can destroy deaf culture, Its there and will always be there ETERNITY. I agree with (MeggriffinX) Theres nothing wrong with wanting to hear. Yes you might are PROUDLY bein deaf, feel so powerful bein deaf along wiht the community, but hey....how about me? Maybe im tired of living in silence?? thought of that?
The deaf who want to remain deaf are afraid to lose their special status and privilagesl THAT is the issue. What idiot woudnt want to hear? Oh, thats right, a deaf one....
@robduncan2000 Where do you get off about special status! The Deaf have to fight against the hearing world day in and out! Always disrespected and belittled, when their history and language are beautiful. Why want to hear when they can see better than a hearing person? Look at what one group of deaf students did to the entire hearing world -- it was called DPN or Deaf President Now. They kicked out a hearie and made the school better with a deaf President at last. Better than a hearing person.
@AnitaByronofSL Oh here you are being high and mighty again...ugh. By the way, there is no medical proof that a deaf person can see better than a hearing person. There is no way to gauge this, as it is on a person to person scale. What a racist you seem to be. All "hearies" aren't bad people, just like most deaf people aren't as ignorant and racist as yourself.
YOU ARE RACIST!!! Do NOT discrimation to against Deaf Culture! You want to know all about the Deaf culture is??? Time for you NEED to respect Deaf Culture. You better go to school will tell you why... I have bad experience in the past IN MY SCAR. the hearing people DID make fun of the deaf community!! Like Nazi make fun jewish community like that!!!
@BlueFlamesHD1 deaf culture is only taught at deaf schools... it's THE DEAF that need to communicate their culture to the hearing people... And by the way, hearing people that make fun of deaf people?? That really sucks... but you know, idiots come in all sizes.. may be you can find stupid persons that make fun of blind people as well.
@pajaroiintegrado All you have to do is talk to a deaf person and you would get a world of information! Do not blame the deaf because the hearing world refuses to adapt the education system to gift the hearing world with a wonderful world they are ignoring! There are schools for the hearing to learn about the deaf. Rather than demanding of the deaf, extend a hand of friendship and ask about their world.
@noulmiit There are also the hearing families who want the perfect child they expected for nine months. It is normally the hearing who demand such for their child without the kid being able to speak much less say what (s)he wants. Watch the Sound and the Fury. The mother/grandmother as well as the siblings are perfect examples of this.
The deaf people that don't want implants have their own reason (s). My guess is that it is because humans resist change. They become comfortable. Some rarely change their hairstyle... some never change their underwear. We are creatures of habit. Going outside the comfort level many times brings more satisfaction and happiness..... Thanks for the video even though I did not understand it.
@attractivefrenchguy They see the CI as the way the hearing world is now trying to 'fix' the deaf. Like not allowing children to learn or speak in sign as schools were for around a century. Watch the Sound and the Fury. That would make wiser any hearing person to how the deaf are treated even by the hearing families of most.
Time for you NEED learning America Sign Langauge. Do NOT discrimation to against Deaf Culture! You want to know all about the Deaf culture is??? You better go to school will tell you why...
@BlueFlamesHD1 Ok, I am not trying to be the grammar police here, but seriously there is a difference between a few spelling or a few grammatical errors, and just sounding completely ignorant (in the literal sense). So, perhaps you shouldn't tell someone to "go to school" until you can figure out how to compose a complete sentence, let alone a coherent thought.
I don't care. No one are perfect. Must be perfect the right language?? huh. Dont be smart. Let me tell you a story. I was young with my ex-hearing boyfriend in 1980's. The guy use me for what?? sex... I was hurt by my ex-hearing boyfriend. he told everyone i'm the best b....j..... HOW he dare to use me as dumb. Becuase the hearing people take adventage of the deaf people's life. they make the deaf community're job low salary like $6.00 per hours. You like that?? HUH?
@BlueFlamesHD1 sorry for your pain, but you know what... it is not that personal, Bad people do bad things to everyone, not just to deaf people. You think I'm like your ex because I can hear?.
@BlueFlamesHD1 Ok, now I know this is a joke. So because you CHOSE to go down on some dude in the 80's, and you were GOOD at it (wonder how you got good?), then it was the "hearing people's" fault!?!? What do you think a hearing person wants to take advantage of? Give me a break, please. I live in a town FULL of deaf people, with a State School for the Deaf and Blind, where deaf people THRIVE and do very well, so don't give me this uneducated, ignorant RANT. Throw yourself a pity party!
@BlueFlamesHD1 By the way, if you are actually a big enough IDIOT to work for $6.00 an hour, then you must be a complete simpleton. Minimum wage is $7.25 an hour!!! Stand up for yourself for God's sake and quit blaming other people for your own problems. Just because you have a handicap doesn't give you the right to blame a whole culture of people for your particular problem. Obviously you are at least 40 years old, so GROW THE HELL UP and quit WHINING!!!
Let your problem. Not my problem. You assume my age. I am laugh.Your are wrong. I am NOT your mother. go to talk with mommy. Stop complain about your saying is soo idoit.
@BlueFlamesHD1 You are obviously mentally challenged. I feel bad for you. It is evident you are uneducated, but this doesn't have anything to do with your lack of respect or decency to anyone who doesn't agree with your opinion...not that anyone can understand what it is with the way you incoherently spew your choppy thought patterns. You instead choose to show your true mentality by the way you make yourself look absolutely dumb. By the way, after seeing your picture, you must be 50.
@BlueFlamesHD1 So, why don't you go back to school and learn some 3rd grade grammar, seriously. If you don't wish to get an implant for whatever reason...DON'T! If you don't want to date a "hearing person", then DON'T! But for hell's sake, you need to stop hiding behind your disability and take some personal accountability for your own actions instead of blaming some dude from the 80's for ruining your trust of "hearing people". YOU make YOU look STUPID! ARE YOU? Get a mirror for hell sake!
@sanzyuryu Why not, the whole hearing world is out to make everyone the same. Everyone has no need for accommodations and everyone is perfect. The slow catch up with the fast in the same class. If you are broken fix it or shove them in an institution. That is the same old BS the hearing world has done for centuries.
@AnitaByronofSL How would you have it be any better Anita? Unfortunately, the deaf are the one's who are born without one of their senses, therefore it is the deaf who need the special attention, special schools, special books, special languages. Should we all just jamb pencils in our ears at birth so we can all have great "culture" and all be the same, just like you? Come on...it is unfortunate, but the minority has to be the one to try to get along...it just makes sense...
@sanzyuryu STOP WITH THE HATE AND DISRESPECT! Now, not all employers are respectful to pay their workers what they should. Do not blame people for not knowing what you know. Most deaf people see the hearing world just as that. Out to stick it to any deaf person because the hearing world rules the world. That is how the hearing have treated the deaf for as long as the difference has been noticed. Start by changing how you see the deaf and maybe the world will change.
@AnitaByronofSL I don't hate anyone...get that through your head. However, you are absolutely right, I have zero respect for the ignorant. I don't "blame" anyone for not knowing what I know. What would I benefit from "sticking it to the deaf"? That is ridiculous. You are quite the idealist. I see everyone for face value, including the deaf. To me they are just my friends and my neighbors...there are good ones and stupid ones, just like ANYONE else, hearing or not. You are so judgmental.
@sanzyuryu Um obviously to one who has taken sign language classes, the person is deaf. That is how their grammar is set up. Just as in any foreign language the way sentences are written is different. This is why most deaf people are seen as stupid because their sentence structure is different from English.
@AnitaByronofSL I call bullshit on this one. Everyone who goes to school, either at the State School for the Deaf and Blind, or at the Public School reads the same Wuthering Heights or the same Moby Dick. There is no difference in the way the sentence structure is made up when writing and reading. Signing is completely different and if that is all that this woman was relying on, then it is just out of pure laziness, because she was taught to read and write at a young age.
You know what? Stop talking! ;) Better for everyone!
You're acting like you know everything but you don't seem to know a little part of it! Deaf people are really talking and writing in a different way BECAUSE they are not talking this language and the grammar is totally different! And it's the same for every language.
Deaf french, dutch, german, chinese people have the SAME problem! But you just decided to reduce it to laziness... Pretty sad..
Funny thing is: I'm quite deaf myself with 25% hearing in my left ear and no hearing at all in my right...I can certainly understand why parents who have deaf children would seek to better their children's lives by giving them the gift of cochlear implants. There are quite a few comments on this vid that are pretty nasty...the problem between people watching this video is that you all are perpetuating the " us vs them" syndrome of separating the hearing and deaf communities...
Also California is a poopy Liberal state with moronic "standards". Multiple companies have been fined for retarted reasons. How do I know? Because I live here, and soon I will be heading to a new state. It's a nice place providing you don't live here.
My God. Can you deaf and dumb clowns shutup about "We have to let children wait till they're 18"! The CI will not work as well if you wait that long being that brain was not able to develop in its young stages. Every single one of you clowns with your moronic looking "ASL" are trashy looking dirty people sitting in front of a camera waving your hands. Yes, I said it! You attack parents who want to give their children the gift of hearing, then I'm going to attack you back!
@TheMadMusicMan Let the kids choose when they are old enough to say if they want a CI! I had a deaf student in an after school program with all hearing and his family were hearing. He did not get the CI at birth like some idiots do to their kids. His mom was wise enough to wait until her son came and said 'mom I want a CI.' Mind you he was 7 or 8 when he received his CI. When I last had him in my after school program class, most of the time he wasn't wearing the listening part so he can play.
@TheMadMusicMan The choice to hear was the boys' rather than walking around thinking he was as hearing as the rest of the world. Most kids who have CIs from infancy have no idea they are deaf. The families who get them at that age think with hearing perspectives. My baby is broken I need to fix him so he will be like me. Never mind that the baby is their own person not their parents. CIs in infancy are not accepting it is molding into what is the only accepted person in their family -- hearing.
The reason the Deaf Community is so stubborn in both refusing to be labeled disabled, and in trying to stand against technology that would remove this disability, is because of deafness' unique status as a disability that imparts a significant social barrier to the rest of the world.
To cope with this, the Deaf have managed remarkably well in crafting a close-knit community that offers togetherness and aid, but like all sub-cultures this has also resulted in the classic "Us vs Them" mentality.
@ogith That's the first comment I've heard that made this clear to me. I couldn't understand what was going on with the controversial comments when babies were getting their implants. Now I've related it to racism in a way. They are like a minority group that gets up in arms about "race mixing" because they fear they will lose members of their community and they also tend to "exile" the "mixed" to put pressure on the group to stay cohesive.
If you don't understand the problem of babies getting CI, go and inform you and make YOUR OWN decision about it! Do not just follow what one person is saying...
Deaf people are not refusing CI because they want to stay the minority group with benefits, please -.-
There is a lot more reasons to that.. just inform yourself if you want to know..
@christag1979 you have to understand why my wife use be have hearing aid, when she loss her hearing. now is damaged by fluids in side cochlear she cannot used haring aid not any more and not working at all, She had lot of noisy in head all the time that why she have an operation to removed fluids and put in cochlear implant inside , No more noisy head is gone which is good news. My wife now can hear her hearing is back again normal. Great .
You are not very bright person sorry mate . I have some friends who is deaf . He got cochlear implant he is happy. so what that is his choice so what ,you are very narrow mind Deaf world.
@GabeighInWonderland Yep, that's what I am. An insane, ignorant deaf person who constantly witnesses deaf children being denied an appropriate standard of education, being denied opportunities to pursue their dream jobs, and basically being denied the freedom to make their own choices later in life (as a CI is reversible, but keeping the child deaf till you deem they are old enough to make their own decision on whether to get a CI or not, is irreversible).
@jillyclare all i know is my niece is happy, healthy, and now hearing. she can now attend regular school and learn at the rate she should be, she can hear her mommy and daddy tell her they love her, not just sign it, she can hear it now, the first time she heard birds? the giggles that came out of her were contagous.
@xXxXBleedPurpleXxXx I think you must've misread my comment. I'm all for CIs as I have one myself. I was expressing how DENYING a deaf child a CI is child abuse. Good on you and your family for giving your niece the chance to hear and speak, I'm externally grateful for my family for giving me a CI!
@jillyclare Let us get one fact straight. CIs are NOT reversible. Once the machines are put in it is forever. all residual hearing is destroyed forever. The microphone can be removed, but the internal parts are there forever. 7 or 8 years of age is not irreversible. Let the child decide what is important to them rather than saying I am hearing and I refuse to accept you unless you do this to hear like I do rather than learn about who and what you are. That is child abuse.
@AnitaByronofSL My point exactly! We should accept the child as who they are - disabled! We have a disability, and whilst it cannot be cured (yet), there are significant technologies (i.e. cochlear implants) and intervention programs that have proven to be successful in giving deaf children hearing and speech skills. Deafness is an abnormality, a disability, a minority - it is only normal for the greater population to want us to be the best, healthy human beings we can be.
I presently have brain cancer and had surgery done on the front part of my head to remove the grade III cancer. The last part of the cancer is still there -- they will not remove it as it is grade 4 and they fear further disturbance of body functionality.
Just know that if CI is done correctly and properly , then it will not be a death sentence as long as the patient is monitored pre-surgery and post-surgery.
@eateroftheflame Not one who wants the procedure. I am against parents who force CIs on their babies under the BS that it has to be done right away so my baby will be normal and learn like other normal kids. Look at Helen Keller, she was blind and deaf. She graduated with honors and at the top of her class. The deaf can learn it is the schools and so-called unions that have failed the students.
@AnitaByronofSL But she was blind. There was no way for her to learn the language. you need to see to talk & learn the vowels, sounds of the mouth. On the other hand, deaf people can see and they can talk but they refuse to do because they are too lazy to learn. It takes times and years to learn to talk and understand the language. Like me. i was born deaf & got implanted at 6 then had to relearn the language. Now I am 21 and can successfully talk. :) The main issue is that deaf ppl are so lazy.
and I’m very sad to know, that some people of the deaf culture say such a crap and even call people with ci traitors!
Ci is a blessing for people like me and for lot of other people, but most of the deaf people don’t see or don’t want to see!why?you have your culture, there would be a lot of people in the future who will be born deaf and fi you have ci you are still deaf.please understand this!it is not a curse to be hearing!we all should be more tolerant!!
@AnitaByronofSL well, that's what i said.it's really difficult.if there are hearing parents who get a deaf child, they would do everything to help their child hear.obviously, because they always lievd in the hearing world.if deaf parents get a deaf child, well, why would they want a ci for it?obviously, they don't,because they always lived in the deaf world.see what i mean?that's what i want to say about understanding and tolerance... .
okay guys...it's one thing that children at young age get ci,but another that adults can get them.ci is not the hell, devil or something else like that!
I was born hearing, but became high grade deaf by meniere’s desease. There will come the time,I will get ci,because I love to hear and I love music and everything else in the hearing world.it’s like I’m a wanderer between the worlds, deaf and hearing.i understand both worlds, but what I don’t understand is the intolerance of the deaf culture!...
Deafness is NOT a disease! Deafness fits all the legal guidelines for a culture! What the CI does is destroy a child's culture before they can meet others like themselves. It is the same as telling the deaf they cannot speak in their language but are forced to lipread and speak! And this was written by a hearing woman who has found more acceptance in the deaf community than the hearing.
@AnitaByronofSL Ridiculous. Who in the world would want to be deaf if they had a choice BEFORE they had experienced deafness? I know this is an impossibility, but think about it. Do you think anyone would choose to not be able to hear as an infant? NO WAY! That would be like ordering a new car from the factory, but telling them you didn't want any seats in it... Culture? For what? Having known dozens and dozens of deaf people, I can say the culture defense is complete crap.
@sanzyuryu Sanzy, that last line ruined all credibility. If you knew any deaf people, personally, you would completely understand why hearing is a totally unnecessary ability in society.
@bgyoshi Look dude, it doesn't matter to me whether you believe that I know at least a hundred deaf people. I have gone to public school with them, church functions with them, worked with them, dated them, friends, acquaintances, etc. I do know what I am talking about. We have just as many interpreters in our small community as we have public school teachers. But all that aside for someone to claim that deafness "fits all the legal guidelines for a culture" is complete bullshit...(cont)
@sanzyuryu The definition of a culture is the sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguishes one group of people from another. Culture is transmitted, through language, material objects, ritual, institutions, and art, from one generation to the next. By refusing to grant children access to their culture, you steal their culture.
@bgyoshi Firstly, I wasn't aware that a "culture" was under strict governmental guidelines! This is just another one of those incidences where a user (AnitaByronofSL) was trying to make herself sound more intelligent by throwing around too big of words for her vocabulary. All this aside, the credibility that I possess on YouTube (for hells sake) means absolutely nothing. It is humorous that if you call someone out for being a complete moronic simpleton, when the actually are...(cont)
@bgyoshi that people come running to their defense. No, I don't believe that if anyone had the choice to be able to hear or not AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THEIR LIVES that they would choose to be deaf. That would be as idiotic as wishing that your child would be born deaf, so they could be involved with deaf "culture" as it were...moronic. But I am sure that some deaf people would wish this handicap on their own children, the selfish and scared deaf people that is. (cont)
@bgyoshi And lets face it, deafness is NOT a culture! It has a culture that is involved with it, but by definition, being deaf is a condition. We can try to be all politically correct and not try to get sand in anyone's vagina, but deafness is a handicap. If someone doesn't want to get the CI, then GREAT! STAY DEAF! SIGN! More power to you! I don't think anyone would look down on you for that! What these idiots like AnitaByronofSL are saying is that ... (cont)
@bgyoshi is that the "CI destroys a child's culture before they can meet others like themselves". Wow, this is dumb. Why can't a kid get the CI done and still have "culture"? Or still be in their parents "deaf culture"? Is this "deaf culture" a special club that has a secret handshake? Damn I wanna join the club, but I can't, I'm not deaf anymore! No, there isn't anything wrong with being deaf, but these parents have a responsibility to their kids to give them the very best life possible
@bgyoshi It always seems like people (especially parents) get the most butt-hurt when someone calls their parenting choices and skills into question. But the people that get most hurt are the ones who have something to BE QUESTIONED in the first place! Why in the holy hell, just because YOU don't want to hear, would you not want your child to hear? That is totally selfish! I'll tell you what it is...TOTAL FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN! Understandable...absolutely. But when it involves kids...(cont)
@bgyoshi you have to put those things aside. Most of this began because a deaf chick on here tried to blame hearing people for all of her problems and she couldn't even convey a complete sentence, now it turned into this. I have VERY good deaf friends and one of my close friends has a hearing daughter that she PRAYED would hear before she was born...and she was. So, you can think whatever you want, and it doesn't matter, but I know many many deaf people (cont)
@bgyoshi Ignorance plays a big part in all of this (literal). Simply put, don't hide behind your disability, you own it. Don't blame the non deaf for your deaf issues...it's not their fault. You may have created friends and have deaf society, but nothing defines you as a culture that deserves any special treatment, unless that is what you want, good and bad included. Don't make your kids suffer the same as you, just because you want them to be in the same clubhouse as you...for fuck sake.
Well if that is true then why more and more people get it? why, even I got C.I. last month because i am not happy being in silent world 24/7 I want to be able communicate at least daytime with hearing people, hearing world. I still would support deaf world, because i was born deaf. it would depend on individual if they are happy with deaf or not. their choice. so your opinion is your own, thank you for sharing altho.
I am deaf and currently use cochlear implant! Im very strong support deaf culture of course i still wear cochlear implant for my family or hearing friends that I had and of course for my protection and future job! I got cochlear implant in 2007, And IM TOTALLY FINE!!! There are so bullshit that are death sentence or getting stock by electrical, well I had been stock by the electrical but do not effect my ci or my brain!! So dont make up that story again cuz ur not even experience of it!
QuicksilverdotFX: you are ignorant! and mentally unbalanced prosthetic legs, arms are exterior devices. Knock your head. if you want to be ci ... if you are nuts enjoy to be a roulette to see you can live or get killed by electricity!!!!!!! polar storm!!! POLAR STORM!!!! You are idiot!
Cochlear implants: wires, magnets attached to the nerves between brain and middle ear..... INTERIOR device that is very high risk and illegally for children.
I just got cochlear implanted in my skull few days ago. I can't wait for it be tuned on, on March 16th, about month from today. reason I wanted it because i always want to be able involve more with converstation, I am only deaf one in whole of my family, so I realize its that time to stop putting it aside, and feeling isolated, that isn't good. So i decided to go ahead and get it so I can be happier and involve more with my families :) I might cry as they turned it on! haha
Read and think about my example: if someone have a gun and yelled at deaf person "Freeze" "Stop" and deaf person cannot hear the yeller (robber) and then they will shot to deaf person. If CI is bother u, then ignore CI or them.
Can't we all just get along? Deaf Culture will be intacted DO NOT WORRY. I have CI and I love my deaf culture more than anything in the world. I sign, I talk, but I SEE myself as a deaf person. DEAF not a "HEARING" I respect your choices and I want YOU to respect mine. It does not matter how much or how fake your hearing is, what matters is IDENTITY. I am a deaf person and sure hell proud of it.
@franktze Deaf people do this all the time on youtube. They're fucking faggot retards who have fucking psychological problems. They always need to feel special, this stems from people treating them special for their entire lives, that's why they don't want these implants, because then they will just be like everyone else.
I think it's very sad from you to say such things..
Why are you insulting them? You don't agree with them, that's your choice, as their is to say that CI isn't good...
You're coming here to express yourself, they're doing the same so please, don't insult them! Stop saying they're just stupid, that "they have fucking psychological problems", "need to feel special, treating specially" ..
Do you feel beter insulting them, really? Maybe YOU are the stubborn here...
@Habeeb9131 One you are showing your intelligence level is low with the name calling. My deaf friends I had to work with before they trusted me hated me because of people like you. Most deaf people get the butt end of everything unless they fight. And that is why many deaf people do not speak or lipread, to be themselves.
are you kidding me? myself have cochlear implant and i have it for many years and i didnt died from it. You never know it could save your life, find yourself enjoying music, or much more you can do with it. it wont give you health problems because you have nothing to prove that it actually risking for your health. you dont like it? too bad, you cant stop people from getting CI. it's their choice. you hate it so much then dont even talk about it or think to take away their choice to receive one.
Hello oreocookie860, he talking about 6 months to 6 years old some died!!!! You dont know ...why?? because they wont info u about what happen to them huh .. Are u agree with me huh??
Welcome to 2010. CI's are here to stay. Why would you not want to hear if you had the chance. The death sentence is not hearing the truck before it runs you over.
@peterb362 One the deaf see more than hearing people. Yes, their are dangers in the world hearing help defend against. But I am saying that the reasoning for the drilling into the skulls of infants is so they fit in with the family.
So if Cochlear implants was lets say "banned" that means my life would be completely different, i would have to go to a special school for the deaf, only hide in a deaf community and have a low grade job since most require fluent english.
I use Cochlear impant for 15 years, I been to a main stream school, got brilliant friends, now at university, if i don't have a implant, i will have put a bullet in my head.
Stop being selfish and stubborn, Humanity evolved to hear, don't devolve
I think it's wonderful..... Cochlear implants are a marvel of medical technology and it is a gift to give children the chance to hear and to learn language as well as the hand jive. If you don't want cochlear don't it.. But it should not be denied to children and babies who are ideal candidates.
If you do not want an implant for you unless you let others decide on their own, you are not God! In fact I see, it shows you lack of medical criteria, or technical or engineering itself to make such stupid statements! GTFO
where do you get this dreadful information? Each year thousands of children and adults benefit from advances in technology, without affecting their health.
would happen if you tomorrow (I hope not) have an accident and you lose your hands .... going to pray for a cochlear implant!
where do you get this dreadful information? Each year thousands of children and adults benefit from advances in technology, without affecting their health.
would happen if tomorrow (I hope not) you have an accident and you lose your hands.. going to pray for a cochlear implant??
Hello, shut the fuck up. CI is awesome. If you don't like it then don't get it? Your philosophy of "you must stay deaf" is retarded. If you had no arms or legs, you must stay limbless! Wait, that's stupid and I know you agree.
@QuicksilverdotFX Not everyone must stay deaf! Give people the chance to decide for themselves! Also let's try to use respectful language over name calling. Some of us left High school years ago.
I am a parent trying to research about these things and am constantly frustrated...plz add caption so I can understand what you are saying. This just happened to my kid (meneigitus age 11) so I have not had time to learn signing yet. I need captions.
@InFromTheVoid what you are experiencing is the crux of the problem. Deaf people think everyone should learn sign language.. For them, a minority, to have to put captions for the rest of us would be beneith them. Thank God that their community is shrinking and will be snuffed out by the C.I. because hardcores would be stubborn rather than imbracing the inevitible change that technology brings.
Okay, I only watched half of the video and I feel the need to comment right now. It is clear you do not have your facts right. I was told so many stories about CI: if I flew in a airplane, my head would explode, I could get skin cancer from the CI, etc... The CI does not cause death. Infection can lead to death that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the implant. A root canal infection can get in the blood leading to death so stop trying to point your finger at the CI causing illness of death.
and i also wanted to add that.. scientists and statstics say that everything is bad for everyone. like the cell phone. who knew that using a cell phone would cause cancer? everything is bad for everyone, so what! let them. you are very, very biased.
my god. deaf people that are obsessed about being against CIs are driving me nuts!
it is not your business to know about people's lives anyway, its their choice if they want proceed an operation to install CI. let them. its not your life, its theirs. so you can shut up about it and move on.
Deaf people are really stubborn when it comes to Cochlea implants. What the hell is wrong with wanting to hear. If you don't like it, DON'T GET ONE. Anyone who chooses to get one doesn't need to be told they'll die. Nonsense.
I agree, My CI operation is tomorrow and I came on hear to see what to expect...and most of the video's are negative. Plus I was never tought to sign..I have hearing aides. I wish captions were added.
@MegGriffinX Thanks, thats make me feel alittle better. Im 24 years deaf, and im highly considering gettin one, but i kept seeing too much negative against it thru youtube. ::((
@S10Man87 , I hope that you go for an implant. Hearing music, the emotions in your loved one's voice, conversation in a group or in a situation where you can't lip-read or sign, safety issues, there are so many reasons that hearing will be a blessing in your life. Good luck to you and enjoy the journey!
HeatherWorkmanRios 3 weeks ago
@HeatherWorkmanRios No. Not having a hearing is a disability, not hearing.
scenexbam 2 weeks ago
If the parent is doing it out of love and they truly feel it is the best thing for their child, I can't see any fault with that. But if they are doing it just so they will be like everyone else or be "normal" and it is only out of some kind of social fears, then it is very wrong.
HeatherWorkmanRios 3 weeks ago
My child is hard of hearing and I have to say that I would never implant her even if she was 100% deaf. That's for her to decide if it comes up. The only disability they really have is a language barrier. You don't consider someone who speaks another language than you as being 'disabled' do you? If it is a disability it's amazing to know how they've come up with their own culture and language in spite of the oppression they've gone through and still come up standing tall. Deaf Pride PAH!
berrydirl 3 weeks ago
Virgingorda2, you asked me if i was 100 % deaf, would i allow myself to have CI. NO!! I would not go for it. I will not risk health problems from CI from what I have been hearing about it.. So I highly doubt that i would go for it. :) Have a great weekend! God bless!

@sanzyuryu hahaha stupid.. it was a copy paste of the comment u said, and it was written 12hours ago.. it is in french. but of course Im the one who' making no sens... im telling you about respect and see how ur reacting?? so silly
noulmiit 1 month ago
@noulmiit Oh, I know what it meant, the issue was I didn't understand the CONTEXT in which it was written. Again, just some BLATHER from the incoherent. So, teacher, why don't you teach me about respect, since you seem to think that is your job. And I am stupid? You are quite comical yourself simpleton.
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@noulmiit By the way, I won't be quiet just because you tell me to. I have the RIGHT to speak my mind and CHOOSE to exercise that RIGHT when someone is calling me to the carpet. If you want to have an intelligent debate without frustration, then quite simply....quit getting frustrated and rely on your own intelligence and merit to form such argument. Deaf people learn proper grammar when writing. This I KNOW for a FACT. If you choose not to then you are plain lazy.

@sanzyuryu I think you're the one frustrated xD Seriously!
Yes deaf people are learning proper grammar but it is like if I was saying you "ok by now you will learn spanish but you won't ever listen to it!"
Everybody knows that to have a good grammar in a new language you need to practice and to listen..
And stop lying -.- "Oh, I know what it meant, the issue was I didn't understand the CONTEXT in which it was written"
You didn't understand it, and the context was clear.

AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@AnitaByronofSL Likewise Anita, think of what a child would be missing because they are lacking one of their senses! Do you honestly believe that the "culture" would outweigh the benefits of a child to hear? Who gives a damn about the stigma of normality... that isn't even a question in my book. Of course someone who hears is no "better" because they can hear, but just like anyone, we should all get judged on our individual merits... just as the stupid old lady who couldn't form a sentence...
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@AnitaByronofSL You are the only person here that says you have to conform with anyone in a place of power. This is the USA, where you don't have to do anything. Hell, you can sit on your butt and collect SSI, because you are handicapable! So many deaf people collect disability, but don't want to be classified as disabled or handicapped...what a double standard. We should all just do what we can to get along. I shouldn't be made to feel bad because I can hear and someone else cannot.
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
All these people calling deafness a disability.. honestly, how are they disabled? I haven't heard of deafness holding anybody back in anything but learning english grammar. My deaf friends all got better grades in public school than I did, they all are smart, well rounded people, they all function just as normally as I do. I can hear and they can't. What's the big deal? Do you feel disabled because you can't fly without a device aiding you?
bgyoshi 1 month ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@bgyoshi But what I won't agree on is the double standard that these people want. (cont)
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi Look, here is my bottom line. I know MANY deaf people here. They thrive. They don't hide behind their disability. It indeed is a disability, if nothing else but by definition. A culture is something to be proud of, but children should have a choice, and be afforded the opportunity to not be handicapped, just because their parents want them to be in the special deaf club. No matter if you are deaf or not, English is still the language...learn to write it correctly for hell sake...
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@sanzyuryu It's a language, that's like saying people that speak spanish are disabled because they don't have fantastic grammar. By your definition of disability, unemployment is a disability too. They get special government funding, schools, scholarships (welfare).. No, a disability is something that impairs your physical movement or mental function. Deaf people are not impaired, they just can't hear.. they can move and think just as well as us hearing people can.
bgyoshi 1 month ago
@bgyoshi We are talking about deafness, not unemployment. Two COMPLETELY different things...as I stated before. Your ability to compare analytically is remedial at best. Apples and Oranges dude. Welfare is for everyone...even the deaf...so...??? Just because you decide to leave something out of a definition, doesn't mean it to be so. Deafness is indeed a disability. Don't argue with me...argue with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which absolutely includes the deaf...
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi Look man, I am far from "anti-deaf", but I have different opinions, that's all. My opinions are based on facts, definitions, and yes, just like you...life experiences. Argue your case all you want, but at least back it up with some facts, not just emotional rhetoric.
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@sanzyuryu And you're right, kids should have their own choice. The problem is kids don't get a choice. They either get implanted at birth, or they're pressured into getting one. Not forced, no, they're just painted an overly glossy picture of a world with hearing so they don't get to make an objective decision. You can't really do that until you're an adult or at least your mid-teens. You have to know the pros and cons of everything and your OWN personal preferences.
bgyoshi 1 month ago
@bgyoshi Bullshit. It is abusive to inflict a handicap on a child when there is a cure for such disability. This sounds like the parents (deaf) need to have a doll that is just like themselves...

AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@AnitaByronofSL Oh here you are being high and mighty again...ugh. By the way, there is no medical proof that a deaf person can see better than a hearing person.

Hearing doctors trying to delete deaf people.. (and make a lot of money in the same time..!)

noulmiit 2 months ago
@noulmiit There are also the hearing families who want the perfect child they expected for nine months. It is normally the hearing who demand such for their child without the kid being able to speak much less say what (s)he wants. Watch the Sound and the Fury. The mother/grandmother as well as the siblings are perfect examples of this.
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
The deaf people that don't want implants have their own reason (s). My guess is that it is because humans resist change. They become comfortable. Some rarely change their hairstyle... some never change their underwear. We are creatures of habit. Going outside the comfort level many times brings more satisfaction and happiness..... Thanks for the video even though I did not understand it.
attractivefrenchguy 4 months ago
@attractivefrenchguy
what you are saying is quite pretty but.. Do you really thing that in put a CI you will just "go outside the comfort"?
I think it's a little more than just "change a hairstyle"...
noulmiit 2 months ago
@attractivefrenchguy They see the CI as the way the hearing world is now trying to 'fix' the deaf. Like not allowing children to learn or speak in sign as schools were for around a century. Watch the Sound and the Fury. That would make wiser any hearing person to how the deaf are treated even by the hearing families of most.

AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@AnitaByronofSL I don't hate anyone...get that through your head. However, you are absolutely right, I have zero respect for the ignorant. I don't "blame" anyone for not knowing what I know. What would I benefit from "sticking it to the deaf"? That is ridiculous. You are quite the idealist. I see everyone for face value, including the deaf. To me they are just my friends and my neighbors...there are good ones and stupid ones, just like ANYONE else, hearing or not. You are so judgmental.
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@sanzyuryu Um obviously to one who has taken sign language classes, the person is deaf. That is how their grammar is set up. Just as in any foreign language the way sentences are written is different. This is why most deaf people are seen as stupid because their sentence structure is different from English.
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@AnitaByronofSL I call bullshit on this one. Everyone who goes to school, either at the State School for the Deaf and Blind, or at the Public School reads the same Wuthering Heights or the same Moby Dick. There is no difference in the way the sentence structure is made up when writing and reading. Signing is completely different and if that is all that this woman was relying on, then it is just out of pure laziness, because she was taught to read and write at a young age.
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@sanzyuryu
You are the ignorant here, so stubborn!!
noulmiit 1 month ago

TheMadMusicMan 8 months ago
TheMadMusicMan 8 months ago
@TheMadMusicMan Let the kids choose when they are old enough to say if they want a CI! I had a deaf student in an after school program with all hearing and his family were hearing. He did not get the CI at birth like some idiots do to their kids. His mom was wise enough to wait until her son came and said 'mom I want a CI.' Mind you he was 7 or 8 when he received his CI. When I last had him in my after school program class, most of the time he wasn't wearing the listening part so he can play.
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@TheMadMusicMan The choice to hear was the boys' rather than walking around thinking he was as hearing as the rest of the world. Most kids who have CIs from infancy have no idea they are deaf. The families who get them at that age think with hearing perspectives. My baby is broken I need to fix him so he will be like me. Never mind that the baby is their own person not their parents. CIs in infancy are not accepting it is molding into what is the only accepted person in their family -- hearing.
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
The reason the Deaf Community is so stubborn in both refusing to be labeled disabled, and in trying to stand against technology that would remove this disability, is because of deafness' unique status as a disability that imparts a significant social barrier to the rest of the world.
To cope with this, the Deaf have managed remarkably well in crafting a close-knit community that offers togetherness and aid, but like all sub-cultures this has also resulted in the classic "Us vs Them" mentality.
ogith 8 months ago 3
@ogith That's the first comment I've heard that made this clear to me. I couldn't understand what was going on with the controversial comments when babies were getting their implants. Now I've related it to racism in a way. They are like a minority group that gets up in arms about "race mixing" because they fear they will lose members of their community and they also tend to "exile" the "mixed" to put pressure on the group to stay cohesive.
MsColdCanada 4 months ago
@MsColdCanada
Please, do not believe what he is saying..

Keeping a deaf child deaf is child abuse.
jillyclare 9 months ago
@jillyclare That is pure insanity! Your ignorance is offensive!
GabeighInWonderland 9 months ago
@GabeighInWonderland Yep, that's what I am. An insane, ignorant deaf person who constantly witnesses deaf children being denied an appropriate standard of education, being denied opportunities to pursue their dream jobs, and basically being denied the freedom to make their own choices later in life (as a CI is reversible, but keeping the child deaf till you deem they are old enough to make their own decision on whether to get a CI or not, is irreversible).
jillyclare 9 months ago 5
@jillyclare all i know is my niece is happy, healthy, and now hearing. she can now attend regular school and learn at the rate she should be, she can hear her mommy and daddy tell her they love her, not just sign it, she can hear it now, the first time she heard birds? the giggles that came out of her were contagous.
xXxXBleedPurpleXxXx 1 month ago
@xXxXBleedPurpleXxXx I think you must've misread my comment. I'm all for CIs as I have one myself. I was expressing how DENYING a deaf child a CI is child abuse. Good on you and your family for giving your niece the chance to hear and speak, I'm externally grateful for my family for giving me a CI!
jillyclare 1 month ago
@jillyclare Let us get one fact straight. CIs are NOT reversible. Once the machines are put in it is forever. all residual hearing is destroyed forever. The microphone can be removed, but the internal parts are there forever. 7 or 8 years of age is not irreversible. Let the child decide what is important to them rather than saying I am hearing and I refuse to accept you unless you do this to hear like I do rather than learn about who and what you are. That is child abuse.
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@jillyclare
What you are saying is sad, seriously...
You're saying that you're an "insane and ignorant deaf person".. But are you really deaf??
noulmiit 2 months ago
@jillyclare It is not child abuse it is called accepting the child as who they are!
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago

How can anyone be against someone wanting to be able to hear?
eateroftheflame 11 months ago
@eateroftheflame Not one who wants the procedure. I am against parents who force CIs on their babies under the BS that it has to be done right away so my baby will be normal and learn like other normal kids. Look at Helen Keller, she was blind and deaf. She graduated with honors and at the top of her class. The deaf can learn it is the schools and so-called unions that have failed the students.
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago

@coopi1481 Yes, but why force it on infants without giving a child the say?
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@AnitaByronofSL well, that's what i said.it's really difficult.if there are hearing parents who get a deaf child, they would do everything to help their child hear.obviously, because they always lievd in the hearing world.if deaf parents get a deaf child, well, why would they want a ci for it?obviously, they don't,because they always lived in the deaf world.see what i mean?that's what i want to say about understanding and tolerance... .
coopi1481 1 month ago
okay guys...it's one thing that children at young age get ci,but another that adults can get them.ci is not the hell, devil or something else like that!
I was born hearing, but became high grade deaf by meniere’s desease. There will come the time,I will get ci,because I love to hear and I love music and everything else in the hearing world.it’s like I’m a wanderer between the worlds, deaf and hearing.i understand both worlds, but what I don’t understand is the intolerance of the deaf culture!...
coopi1481 11 months ago
Deafness is NOT a disease! Deafness fits all the legal guidelines for a culture! What the CI does is destroy a child's culture before they can meet others like themselves. It is the same as telling the deaf they cannot speak in their language but are forced to lipread and speak! And this was written by a hearing woman who has found more acceptance in the deaf community than the hearing.
AnitaByronofSL 11 months ago
@AnitaByronofSL Ridiculous. Who in the world would want to be deaf if they had a choice BEFORE they had experienced deafness? I know this is an impossibility, but think about it. Do you think anyone would choose to not be able to hear as an infant? NO WAY! That would be like ordering a new car from the factory, but telling them you didn't want any seats in it... Culture? For what? Having known dozens and dozens of deaf people, I can say the culture defense is complete crap.
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@sanzyuryu Sanzy, that last line ruined all credibility. If you knew any deaf people, personally, you would completely understand why hearing is a totally unnecessary ability in society.
bgyoshi 1 month ago
@bgyoshi Look dude, it doesn't matter to me whether you believe that I know at least a hundred deaf people. I have gone to public school with them, church functions with them, worked with them, dated them, friends, acquaintances, etc. I do know what I am talking about. We have just as many interpreters in our small community as we have public school teachers. But all that aside for someone to claim that deafness "fits all the legal guidelines for a culture" is complete bullshit...(cont)
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@sanzyuryu The definition of a culture is the sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguishes one group of people from another. Culture is transmitted, through language, material objects, ritual, institutions, and art, from one generation to the next. By refusing to grant children access to their culture, you steal their culture.
AnitaByronofSL 1 month ago
@bgyoshi Firstly, I wasn't aware that a "culture" was under strict governmental guidelines! This is just another one of those incidences where a user (AnitaByronofSL) was trying to make herself sound more intelligent by throwing around too big of words for her vocabulary. All this aside, the credibility that I possess on YouTube (for hells sake) means absolutely nothing. It is humorous that if you call someone out for being a complete moronic simpleton, when the actually are...(cont)
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi that people come running to their defense. No, I don't believe that if anyone had the choice to be able to hear or not AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THEIR LIVES that they would choose to be deaf. That would be as idiotic as wishing that your child would be born deaf, so they could be involved with deaf "culture" as it were...moronic. But I am sure that some deaf people would wish this handicap on their own children, the selfish and scared deaf people that is. (cont)
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi And lets face it, deafness is NOT a culture! It has a culture that is involved with it, but by definition, being deaf is a condition. We can try to be all politically correct and not try to get sand in anyone's vagina, but deafness is a handicap. If someone doesn't want to get the CI, then GREAT! STAY DEAF! SIGN! More power to you! I don't think anyone would look down on you for that! What these idiots like AnitaByronofSL are saying is that ... (cont)
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi is that the "CI destroys a child's culture before they can meet others like themselves". Wow, this is dumb. Why can't a kid get the CI done and still have "culture"? Or still be in their parents "deaf culture"? Is this "deaf culture" a special club that has a secret handshake? Damn I wanna join the club, but I can't, I'm not deaf anymore! No, there isn't anything wrong with being deaf, but these parents have a responsibility to their kids to give them the very best life possible
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi It always seems like people (especially parents) get the most butt-hurt when someone calls their parenting choices and skills into question. But the people that get most hurt are the ones who have something to BE QUESTIONED in the first place! Why in the holy hell, just because YOU don't want to hear, would you not want your child to hear? That is totally selfish! I'll tell you what it is...TOTAL FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN! Understandable...absolutely. But when it involves kids...(cont)
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi you have to put those things aside. Most of this began because a deaf chick on here tried to blame hearing people for all of her problems and she couldn't even convey a complete sentence, now it turned into this. I have VERY good deaf friends and one of my close friends has a hearing daughter that she PRAYED would hear before she was born...and she was. So, you can think whatever you want, and it doesn't matter, but I know many many deaf people (cont)
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
@bgyoshi Ignorance plays a big part in all of this (literal). Simply put, don't hide behind your disability, you own it. Don't blame the non deaf for your deaf issues...it's not their fault. You may have created friends and have deaf society, but nothing defines you as a culture that deserves any special treatment, unless that is what you want, good and bad included. Don't make your kids suffer the same as you, just because you want them to be in the same clubhouse as you...for fuck sake.
sanzyuryu 1 month ago
Well if that is true then why more and more people get it? why, even I got C.I. last month because i am not happy being in silent world 24/7 I want to be able communicate at least daytime with hearing people, hearing world. I still would support deaf world, because i was born deaf. it would depend on individual if they are happy with deaf or not. their choice. so your opinion is your own, thank you for sharing altho.
