@Pigeonification ANY battle is a big word. I respect what the marines did. But with artillery, machine guns, semi and full auto rifles, barbed wire and mine defenses, its not very surprising they could cut down many waves of charging bayonet and bolt action armed men. The jap were VERY courageous directly to charge at such deadly weapons. This show fails to deliver how hard it was to be jap on guadalcanal. The jap tactic was inadequate in the face of weapons they hadnt faced in previous wars.
@liljgoneman The first wave of marines were equipped with springfields, thompsons and BAR's supported by air and water cooled MGs. Reinforcements brought in m1 carbine and m1 garand in the later stages of the battle.
well, I know when those japs charged, they first took out all the bullets from their rifles first, then begin charging. So they never thought about firing any bullets at all, just charge blindly at the enemy.
Hm, youre right... Well, it must be some ww1 warfare mentality that they had. The Japs had never lost a war prior to ww2 so I guess they did not try to upgrade their tactics and used the good old style.
well, no. the veteran "Sendai" divisions that fought in iwo jima were trained with "shoot, shoot, shoot" as they had much experiance using their guns in the asian campaigns, so generally their marksmanship and tactics are much advanced. The "Kawa-" divisions (new rookies) were undertrained and they were sometimes over-excited, and they had bad commanders, so they would shoot only a few rounds off before charging. the division that charged edon's ridge is a "Kawaguchi" division, so that explains.
no i wasnt, but i met a friend of my grandad who fought on guadalcanal, and his three buddies of 2nd Raider Battalion Bravo Company fought at Edson's Ridge. two of them died there, and the third lost his legs to bayonets and grenades. he said it was hell there. Bravo Company got torn up and there was screaming and flesh everywhere and he saw this boy stuffing his guts back in his body. he got a trauma after the war. whenever you mention "Edson's Ridge" to him, he'd start crying "Matthew, Chad".
i guess the sheet of paper that the commander wrote to every soldier disn't have "shoot" in it? there was "route", "stab", "kill", "exterminate", but no "shoot". but surely the japs won't be so stupid to miss that, wont they?
ive been seeing lately alot of ww2 pacific theatre documentaries.WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY ALWAYS SCREEMING fucking nips

i wonder why the japs made rifles when they only use it to stab...why dont they just make spears then, cheaper too. = =
FrapMocha 2 years ago
1. They were really good at it.
2. They were bolt action rifles--no time to "bolt" it.
3. Low ammunitions(?)
Stupid reasons but....
