@TyLerDurDen2333 Yeah this is a version finished by a fan/band I like it better only because it's better quality than the bootleg, but overall, it's not a true representation - as the fan/band have added their own poetic license to the unfinished work of Lennon, and it shows. There are bolted together chord changes/sequences etc. A nice version though.

@AndrewHaddock what year/sessions was it from. The production sounds very eighties to my ear, but I could be wrong, and it just seem like a very Beatles kind of song, the construction I mean....
@cottageorgan I heard it was recorded in 1978 around the month on Jan, 24. I could be wrong but I have done research. This was apperently for Paul McCartney but I don't think that. I am not sure the meaning.
@AndrewHaddock if it was recorded in 1978, how can it be a Beatles song? i mean they broke up in 1970. I'm not looking for a youtube punch up here, I just find it hard to believe this is the beatles. Each to their own I guess, and I suppose the point is it's not even a very good song so does it really matter? A

This isn't the Beatles. It's a remix by someone, but very good. It's not in the Beatles style. That's defo not Paul on bass. I'm puzzled where they got the background vocals from though.
@dstter Yep. Definitely. This is not the Beatles. It doesn't sound like them. It's just a very good remix that came onto the internet in 2007. Sorry to burst your bubble but it's not the beatles. The backing vocals are just taken from original beatles songs.

I think the entire song is about paul, it seems the overall message is that despite johns aggressive attitude towards paul, john felt he never could have made it as far as he did without paul.
yeah that's right, it's possible to miss someone when they're never less than 2 metres away from you every minute of every day. but I guess you would know seeing as john told you personally what he wrote it about, oh wait? he didn't, you just think you're automaticly right about everything.
thats not correct - john and yoko broke up during 1973 - 1975. its an apologetic love song he wrote for yoko with regard to the "lost weekends" during these 2 years.
and even if not - the lyrics make much less sense with mccartney then they do with yoko.
this was recorded during the Imagine sessions in Ascott, not during the mind games or Walls and Bridges sessions, it would make less sense if it were about yoko because he was with yoko at the time and the lost weekend hadn't happened yet, and again you cannot miss someone that hasn't left your side in 6 years, and at the time he went through a few different ''apologetic'' songs directed towards mccartney, including jealous guy.
@ledZeppelin7680@poepper Sorry to bump a 2 month old argument, but this song, along with "grow old with me" were on a cassette tape with "For Paul" Written on it.
@windows958 I just can't believe that because grow old with me is blatently about yoko, and it was released on Double fantasy, I still think now and then is about paul though...
@ledZeppelin7680 Actually, John DID write this to Yoko when he realized how much he missed her during the end of his "Lost Weekend." It just never got completed and remains in demo form (unless there's a paryially reworked version by The Threetles!). And Grow Old With Me was released on Milk and Honey.
Heard Led Zep was recently voted #3 in VH1's most influential music groups. Niiiiice!
@ledZeppelin7680 John had enough songs for two albums, but the remaining ones were released on his 1983 posthumous album "Milk And Honey" INCLUDING "Grow Old With Me." Although it's his last recorded song, "GOWM" never recived the full in-studio treatment. The song remains in demo form but with a string arrangement added. But yeah, it's on Milk and Honey.
@birdhousehookups Though I don't know about this song, George H. is quoted (on film) as saying they reworked several other songs of John's during the Anthology recordings, but he stopped them from being released(he had a much better explanation, but I don't want to go find the vid right now). Though nothing could top George's solo in Free As A Bird, it really does bring a new definition to wailing on the guitar.
The Beatles are the most important songwriter John Lennon, the most gifted songwriter Paul McCartney and the most underrated songwriter George Harrison.
This is extraordinary. Haunting. For God's sake, release this on one final collection of Beatles outtakes - there's enboufgh on the get Back sessions alone to fill a CD - and then shut the door. No song could possibly end the story as well as this one.
iamaphoney - fucking mindless bastard with his stupid 'paul is dead' theory etc he have mixed this song, and damn, even though he's a prick and i hate him, i love this re-mixed song :D
well... that would have to be "everybody `s LAUGHING", not `itching'.
I agree with those who say it's not Ringo. It's a drumcomputer. But who ever programmed it studied Ringo carefully. It makes me wonder if perhaps Giles Martin did this. It's the same technique as used for `Love' . There's also a sample from `Tragedy', an outtake from Wings' Red Rose Speedway in it. Does anybody recognize the acoustic guitar?
If Paul released this, for starters the drummer would definitely be Ringo. And that is not Ringo as his snare drum is one of the must distinctive in all the music. This is definitely by some "unspecified fan" and NOT The Beatles unfortunately. But John Lennon's lyrics and haunting piano line is amazing. And as I read hopefully Paul and Ringo will come together and finish this song off with some of George's guitar lines that he was doing when they tentatively were working out the song.
Gosh, I love how you can hear them singing 'love is me, love is you' in the background... there's such a mystery about them... the way they always remember to keep that message at the forefront of everything they do. I love them with my life. And also, though the song is difficult to hear, its pretty modern sounding, in terms of melody. Which is very cool. :D
I always hear that this is from an unspecified fan. OK... but what's the point of someone doing this anonymously. It's very high-end and well mixed when you consider the task. Yes, it could be a fan but there's substantial talent and richness in the choices an production. How do you know this isn't a Paul release, after all. It wouldn't be beyond him. He even loves bootlegs.
A popular fan remix from 2007 called the "1995 edit" consists of John Lennon's original demo along with instrumental overdubs by an unspecified artist and samples from various 1960s Beatles songs. It does not contain any of the work that the three surviving members of The Beatles may or may not have done for the track in the 1990s
"In a shock confession last night Jack Jackson was revealed as the only man in rock not to have an all access pass to Carol Stitch's magic snatch", said Morris, typing the words as he mocked.
thats the pure lennon legend talent of writting what you feel the things that make you be happy and sad at the same time thats life as was created by the dream named john lennon
This isnt fan made, it was reworked by Paul, Ringo and George for inclusion on Anthology in the 90s along with Real Love and Free As A Bird. They couldn't get rid of the humming on John's vocals so they didn't release it.
This was a version done for the Anthology album in the 90's using a lennon demo. Wasnt used though, as the vocal track was a poor recording from the demo
is this real? i read in wikipedia that this is a fake mix, made in 2007, the guitar is of someone else, and some archived old bealtles sounds...so im not sure about this.
Oh this song makes me cry. I mean, The Beatles were the most popular musicians in the World and now John and George are gone, The Beatles are gone... this sucks. The Beatles 4ever
I love the beatles. Please dont missunderstand. But, this is too much. John is dead. The Beatles are Over. When i heard about Free as a bird and Real Love i thought " without john? this is weird." but that was ok. At least 3 beatles was there. But Now.. without George.. Paul shouldnt do this. At least no as Beatles material. It would be like dig out your grandma because u missher. Sorry, but i think it's not ok. And Im a FAN.
dude, this is fake one, recorded in 2007, not in 95. and i personally think thaat with paul awesome imagination, he can do it, i really would like it. but george will always be missed as much as john. and the beatles will never be over. BEATLES FOREVER DAMN IT!
No, this version was made in 2007 by a random beatles fan. i've heard, though, that Paul may write some new verses for the song (because it's a little incomplete) and credit it as a Lennon/McCartney song. Ringo may also add some drumming and they may find some archival recordings of George playing his guitar to add to it. this way the song can be released as a beatles single, but i'm not entirely sure if that's what they're doing. iz what i heard.
I read a Rolling Stone Magazine interview with Paul that this was done during Anthology in 1995 and was to be on the 3rd Anthology CD, but he along with Ringo and George did not like the final take and it was shelved. Paul said he may have it put on an up coming Beatles CD once a theme for one is drawn up by Capitol records.
You may want to get a copy of McCartney's interview in last years Rolling Stone Mag. He did say the 3 of them completed Now and Then in 1995, but were not happy with the results. He said he has the complete tapes that he would like to re-work and release at some point. Whether or not this is "that" version is beyond any of us since only Paul holds the tapes.

Cool, I didn't know that. My last comment was made based on something I read on the internet, but I guess you can't always trust the internet to be accurate. Thx for that bit of info, I really hope they do release it. Though I'm pretty sure this version was fan made, but i may be wrong. Peace and love <3
John Loved The nasty & chaotic, This is both & It is beautiful & probably his most Beatles Like Post Beatles Composition, I will always wonder what it would have sounded like to have these song finished all the way Grow old, Carnival of Light, George Paul & ringo should have finished them for The anthology Cd's & then maybe recorded a few new tracks as a three piece& made disc 2 of anthology 3 a new beatles album not those horrible & sad sounding out takes from the already dreary Let it be album
If this song is released as a single, the double A-side should be 'Carnival of Light' both of which are Beatle tunes that should see the light of day, and radio, too.
great till 2:40 into the song...Hope they fix that part with bringing the intro verse back for a second time there..too much overdub overkill can ruin an otherwise great song but this arrangement is definetly the right feel and path to use to perfect this song!
Your right & about the right feel, but the bottom line, THERE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN A NEW BEATLES SONG WITHOUT JOHN'S OKAY! If you know anything about John, he was a true artist, not like the others. I know they will say they did it for LOVE, but they broke a model sin when they released his music without his okay, ESPECIALLY weak sounding home demos. If you know anything about John, you know that he had a GREAT vocal, yet Yoko, Paul, 2George's & Ringo put them out as new BEATLES songs.
The overdub overkill as you call it is in place to hide the electronic buzz that exists on the original demo because Jeff lynn had trouble removing it.
That's not a Beatles song, that's a John song wich he recorded in the '70s at the Dakota. Paul, George and Ringo tried to finish it in the 90's, but George stopped the recordings, because he didn't like the song. Paul's trying to finish it, at the moment. I don't like this version very much. It's not very well produced...
While I suppose this is only a "mash up" I absolutely love this song. Very haunting. Whoever did it did a great job, in my opinion. Sounds similar to stuff from the White Album.
this isn't the actual version i have a bootleg called now and then with this on it and its completely different

whatever.
still fantastic song

Out of all the fans, you`ve spotted the crap.
Total nonsense.
HELTERFUCKINGSKELTER 3 years ago 3
This isnt fan made, it was reworked by Paul, Ringo and George for inclusion on Anthology in the 90s along with Real Love and Free As A Bird. They couldn't get rid of the humming on John's vocals so they didn't release it.
faultylight 3 years ago 6
This was a version done for the Anthology album in the 90's using a lennon demo. Wasnt used though, as the vocal track was a poor recording from the demo
faultylight 3 years ago
theres also a remake done by the virtual beatles, from their 'With a little help' album. You know the name, now look up the site

never heard this version before, but i say again and again the beatles will go on forever and ever.
joe99f1 3 years ago 4
if George recorded a guitar part for it, we (the Beatles fans around the world) should make a petition asking for a release...

Oh this song makes me cry. I mean, The Beatles were the most popular musicians in the World and now John and George are gone, The Beatles are gone... this sucks. The Beatles 4ever
stilltakeyouhome505 3 years ago 3
I love the beatles. Please dont missunderstand. But, this is too much. John is dead. The Beatles are Over. When i heard about Free as a bird and Real Love i thought " without john? this is weird." but that was ok. At least 3 beatles was there. But Now.. without George.. Paul shouldnt do this. At least no as Beatles material. It would be like dig out your grandma because u missher. Sorry, but i think it's not ok. And Im a FAN.

The Beatles are a lot of things but "over" they will never be. Beatles forever!

"Paul shouldnt do this."
Paul DIDN'T do this.
HaHaHaPaulIsDead 3 years ago 5
dude, this is fake one, recorded in 2007, not in 95. and i personally think thaat with paul awesome imagination, he can do it, i really would like it. but george will always be missed as much as john. and the beatles will never be over. BEATLES FOREVER DAMN IT!

hey where did the drums and guitar come from?
this isn't the new version with paul and ringo on it is it?
petethebanjo1138 3 years ago

Paul said he may have it put on an up coming Beatles CD once a theme for one is drawn up by Capitol records.
mjm4222 3 years ago

Paul is the only one keeping the unfinished version of Anthology's "Now and Then", this is fan made.

John Loved The nasty & chaotic, This is both & It is beautiful & probably his most Beatles Like Post Beatles Composition, I will always wonder what it would have sounded like to have these song finished all the way Grow old, Carnival of Light, George Paul & ringo should have finished them for The anthology Cd's & then maybe recorded a few new tracks as a three piece& made disc 2 of anthology 3 a new beatles album not those horrible & sad sounding out takes from the already dreary Let it be album
jayceerocker 3 years ago 3
If this song is released as a single, the double A-side should be 'Carnival of Light' both of which are Beatle tunes that should see the light of day, and radio, too.

great till 2:40 into the song...Hope they fix that part with bringing the intro verse back for a second time there..too much overdub overkill can ruin an otherwise great song but this arrangement is definetly the right feel and path to use to perfect this song!
dukeabore 3 years ago
Your right & about the right feel, but the bottom line, THERE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN A NEW BEATLES SONG WITHOUT JOHN'S OKAY! If you know anything about John, he was a true artist, not like the others. I know they will say they did it for LOVE, but they broke a model sin when they released his music without his okay, ESPECIALLY weak sounding home demos. If you know anything about John, you know that he had a GREAT vocal, yet Yoko, Paul, 2George's & Ringo put them out as new BEATLES songs.
bewaremylove 3 years ago
The overdub overkill as you call it is in place to hide the electronic buzz that exists on the original demo because Jeff lynn had trouble removing it.

That's not a Beatles song, that's a John song wich he recorded in the '70s at the Dakota. Paul, George and Ringo tried to finish it in the 90's, but George stopped the recordings, because he didn't like the song. Paul's trying to finish it, at the moment. I don't like this version very much. It's not very well produced...
