El Huapango de José Pablo Moncayo fue compuesto por aquello de los 40´s; el Son de la Negra en Nayarit por épocas revolucionarias (por lo que se siente como una locomatora comenzando su partida. En cambio, Moncayo retrató los paisajes y pueblos de México en su Huapango, por lo que escucharlo es todo "un viaje por el folcklore mexicano.

I just learned the history of this song today. A mariachi group serenaded me during lunch then explained that this song was a simple serenade to an African woman from a Mexican man because he was sooo deeply in love with her. I was very flattered that they played for me as well, me being a Black myself :)

It is about a dark-skinned Mexican woman.This song was composed in the early 1900s when a Jalisco Mexican -far from the U.S. and far from the Caribbean- would have not ever seen an African person. Mexicans are mixes of white-skinned Spaniards and dark-skinned Indians.  "Negra" or "Negrita" is a very common nickname for girls that are more like Indians and have darker skin.
