this goal was a good goal, but on the third one he was bumped and the game winner in game 2 he got bumped. carolina was running into him this whole series and the refs kept letting it go. when he asked the ref why there wasent a penalty, the ref said because he had enough time to reset himself, not because it wasent a penalty. thats why he was pissed.

It should have been a penalty, Martin Brodeur 2 minutes for interference for skating out into Jokinen. Of course the goal before NJ gained possession of the puck would have wiped out the delayed penalty anyway.

They both bumped into each other, so it's incidental contact. If the puck went in right at the point where Jokinen and Brodeur collided, then Marty has a case. But he was able to find the puck and try to make the save. He missed the puck.

the difference is one type of contact is called "incidental contact" which is purposely aimed contact towards the goaltender, which is rightfully pentalty worthy. coincidental contact is accidental contact with the goaltender outside of the crease which does not call for a penalty... typically shown in this example. look at mid to late 0:36. as jokinen turns away from the boards and towards the slot, he looks at marty for a split second. just as he looks away, marty comes into view. marty was already set up out of the crease just after jokinen looked away. he then turned his back and skated on the straight path he looked at towards brodeur. he made no attempt to alter his path. he looked at marty then intentionally skated into him. he just turned his back to make it look like an accident.
and its going to be "bump a marty party" as long as players know they can get into his head like that. good goal, and maybe its a bad call by the reff... but slamming your stick into the boards like that is just immature. and kids look up to this guy..

The announcer is an absolute idiot. Brodeur was out of the crease and turned his right leg in to a guy who was skating on a normal line in front of, but not in to, the goal.

To all the folks talking shit about my Canes, grow up. All of these negative, untrue comments are reused EVERY time we beat some team in the playoffs. Carolina is a bunch of rednecks! @staalC12 As Rule 69.4 of the NHL Rules states: If an attacking player initiates any contact with a goalkeeper, other than incidental contact, while the goalkeeper is outside his goal crease, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.
A goalkeeper is not “fair game” just because he is outside the goal crease. So No Goal

For the NJ Homers who keep saying "interference", look at Jussi. He's a good 3 feet from the crease. Brodeur ran into Jokinen. Start looking at the 2 minute mark. Jokinen's back is to Marty. He's going laterally and is not looking for Marty as he's way outside the crease. Marty goes and runs into Jussi, not the other way around.

That is soo stupid. If the goalie is outside the crease and it is accidental contact, it is not a penalty. Brodeur is three feet outside the crease, clearly should count. I am not a Carolina fan either, I grew up in Vancouver (go canucks) and even a peewee goalie would know not to argue with that call. What pussies.

They both bumped into each other, so it's incidental contact. If the puck went in right at the point where Jokinen and Brodeur collided, then Marty has a case. But he was able to find the puck and try to make the save. He missed the puck.
The call on the ice was good.

Brodeur is getting old, and he can't carry half the team on his back like he used to do. But that was interference, and im not being biased at all, he ran into Brodeur and like the commentator said he may not of done it on purpose but he still ran into Brodeur and that absolutely was interference

That is not a penalty lol. Brodeur was out of crease, which means incidental contact doesn't constitute a penalty. Plus, he had enough time to reset himself so that didnt effect the goal anyway.

Im a Blackhawks fan, but this play, even if he is out of the crease, Jokinen or what ever his name is bumped into him, he lost balance, and right when he got halfway up the puck when into the net. COINCIDENTAL INTERFIERENCE! Still, NO GOAL!

the difference is one type of contact is called "incidental contact" which is purposely aimed contact towards the goaltender, which is rightfully pentalty worthy. coincidental contact is accidental contact with the goaltender outside of the crease which does not call for a penalty... typically shown in this example. Clear enough?

Its a tough call... I mean the blue paint is where the tender is supposed to be period... we see incidental contact because Marty decides to come out to the blueline to stop a puck and Jokinen is to blame??? 1st off Marty had NOT established position... you can clearly see him moving as well... if it is in the crease you would have an argument but due to the fact that Brodeur was outside his crease and Jokinen went to the net you can hardly call it interference!

People kept saying "he was able to reset himself" that is a terrible excuse for the refs lack of judgement. If a player get tripped, doesn't he get up and reset himself? Yes, and it is called a penalty, so what makes this non interference call any different?!?!?!?!?!?! I'm sick of refs blowing so many calls especially this year (2009-2010) It is getting ridiclious!

@DeSeanHoover i don't have a prob with an announcer being biased for their team, i actually prefer it as long as its not a neutral station like NBC or VS. I'm a hardcore Ranger fan but i'll admit Doc and Chico (NJ announcers) are a great play by play team. Chico isan ex goalie and its a long standing joke between them about how Chico always takes the goalie side and Doc is the best there is. Even better then Sam rosen, tho i hate to admit but i'll take Sam over Doc for any day for a Ranger game.

Goals should be disallowed only if ... an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.

I think in the postgame press conference Jokinen said that Marty likes to come out of the crease so their team was going to try to get close and stand in his way so Marty skates into them
Was bumping him intentional? I don't think so, but he didn't make an effort to avoid the collision (neither player), and Jokinen knew what he was doing; he knew that if he just stood there, there was a good chance Marty would bump him

look at mid to late 0:36. as jokinen turns away from the boards and towards the slot, he looks at marty for a split second. just as he looks away, marty comes into view. marty was already set up out of the crease just after jokinen looked away. he then turned his back and skated on the straight path he looked at towards brodeur. he made no attempt to alter his path. he looked at marty then intentionally skated into him. he just turned his back to make it look like an accident.

Very nice try, but you are looking at the wrong time frame. Marty is not in the shot at 36 seconds.
Look at 1:59 on. When Jokinen looks, Marty is in the paint. If you look at 2:03, you can see Brodeur, who can very obviously see Jussi, move into him.
Marty made a stupid move trying to draw a penalty when he thought there was no chance he could get burned by his play.
