GA vs AMLS: AMLS has lost it's entertainment value for me. Weak car fields, the euro teams don't really come visit any more. I think the series is stale. What does it's technology provide for the average race fan? not entertainment. Grand Am has huge fields, lots of close racing action and besides the DP cars, most of the cars "LOOK" like something you can can buy from a dealer, lots of different brands so I can root for my team. and some of the winning drivers are AMERICAN.
@LeoParente Hey if you set your DVR.. WRC coverage is on Velocity (was Discovery HD Theater). It's on Sat or Sun morning when it is on. It's a few weeks late, but at least you get to see more of what happened in the Rally (and name pronunciation, LOL) .. Before that I got coverage on bit-torrent because it wasn't even available in the US.
As usual Derek D. will be on the losing end of the Super Bowl. GO PATRIOTS !!!!. The Rolex series seems to be full of rich boy drivers who figure they have to win the race in the 1st hour, not 24 hours later. Some slow GT car allays takes out a leading Rolex Protoye car. Grand-Am vs AMLS/FIA vs ACO. The world of sports car racing would better if there was just one set of rules for the manufactures to build to. Different sanctioning bodies is cool but one set of rules to put FIA, ACO, Grand-Am, AMLS, SuperGT and V8 Supercar would be a huge step forward for all parties.
The winner (while wearing a FULL uniform, pads, helmet, etc.) gets to full-speed, open field tackle the loser during one of their respective broadcasts.
I enjoy watching ALMS so much more than Grand-Am Rolex races. Like others have said, the cars just seem to be "real cars". Being an M3 owner, I also like to follow the factory BMW Motorsports team slightly more than Turner. Turner's driver lineup for the 24 looks pretty good though, watch out for Boris!!
Grand am is the more "start up" style racing where it does seem a bit more grassroots and all while the ALMS is much more "grown up" and more competitive I think. And I take the entire day(s) off to watch the 2 biggest races of the ALMS, Sebring and LeMans. And I stay up through the entire thing, last year's 24, best one in over 10 years!!!

Carbon fibre chassis, Diesel powerplant, turbocharged engines etc are as old as motor racing itself, and you find them in some road going cars;so what technologies are we talking about when referring to ALMS ,it's all marketing BS.

Regarding Grand AM and ALMS, as a fan, I don't really see much of a difference... I just want to see the two series consolidated so we can see more different types of cars racing one another!
It is very frustrating when the brands completely miss the point like lotus is doing by putting their logo on a car that they didn't build, because it seems like the manufacturers that we look up to so much are completely out of touch with what is actually cool. The lotus brand is cool right now, yes, but unless they continue to 'walk the walk' by racing their own creations, it won't be for very long.
ALMS has way better racing and race cars. Grand am is all Chip Ganassi racing wins again. however I still like it and am going to be in Daytona and Sebring this year.
The great debat: Grand Am vs ALMS. If you like racing, Grand Am all day. If you worship technology; than the ALMS is your ticket. I prefer Grand Am, but enjoy thd ALMS as well. See you in Daytona Leo!

Rebadged racecar makes no sense, works only with non enthusiasts, but non enthusiasts don't care about lotus, and don't even know about morgan. About alms - grand am, i followed alms in the recent past, but.... is all a car rules\categories matter, and we just need unified world categories. A lot of different ones so we can actually have different championships for real, not slightly different copies of the same thing. batteries would have made worst cars like 917K or 512S ? i don't think so.
ALMS is a brand unto itself. Anything in ALMS is immediately 20% better. Grand-Am is barely known or understood even among fans and race nerds, even then the cars in that series are the same cars in ALMS, except the DPs, which only helps the more popular.
Trans-Am was the "common man's" racing series, the cars didn't cost a fortune and you didn't have to be hyper-rich do to it, before it became nothing but rolling museum pieces.
@LW9960 Politics should stay out of, music, sports, and politics. Back to racing, Definitely politics needs to stay out of racing. Plus the sport of racing has been boiled so far down into a business, it is not nearly as much fun or progressive as it used to be.
I think because ALMS is all about technology and has gone green, that I prefer that series, as to me that makes them relevant. As more and more wars are fought over oil, there needs to be a shift in how we think, and ALMS can help there.

I just wish Touring Cars were more popular. The high-tech cars are interesting, but they're the furthest thing from what I'll EVER drive, where TCs are more realistic to the everyday driver. Also, every brand looks too alike in high-tech cars (F1, Super V8, NASCAR) where TCs are able to be identified by frame alone. Touring Cars are more fun to watch too! More contact aggressive driving; it's exciting to watch! I hope more people will come to love TCs! Go Chevy and ford in WTCC 2012!
@Jeredin13 It's a good point. The vehicles are immediately identifiable based on chassis. Harder for the viewer to relate to F1/NASCAR. But both those respective brands have their mass appeal and glamour-factor.
@bb3xhrhj Yeah but we have crap for public transport and have to commute large distances to work and shop and have to pay for our own health insurance. You have access to a vast array of fuel efficient cars that we can not get also. It's all relative. Also any increase in our gas prices is a harder hit because it's a larger percentage of the overall cost. Our gas prices have doubled in last 6 years while Britain's has increased by more like 1/3

Like the show. You guys need to go find a Paul King narrated WRC video and learn how to pronounce all the drivers names though. Also you need some kind of official office edict on how to pronounce Citroen. Either the Frenchy way or English way but everyone making up their own interplolation is a little maddening.

The rally was Jari Matti Latvala's rally to win. I know the French robot is almost unbeatable on sealed surfaces...But JML was showing amazing pace! Leo, love shakedown but the names of our beloved WRC drivers are getting shit on. PETTER? ----> PET-HER Solberg. I know its not a big deal but the Eurosport guys destroyed every drivers name! All is well. Solberg showed us what he can do with a proper backing team. This year will be the year that LOEB falls. Cheers!
@541oregon I know they didn't have much time to prepare but the Eurosport coverage really sucked. I gave up after the 3rd day because it was painfully boring. North One's coverage was a little stale creatively but at least it was competent. Last years live coverage of the power stages was great on ESPN UK and will sorely be missed this year.
@jeep6242 Agreed. But the coverage was set up on super short notice(day 1 didn't even have the real commentator). Its not even for sure yet Eurosport will get the job permanantly. So fingers crossed it will get much much better.

@Jeredin13 It's a good point. The vehicles are immediately identifiable based on chassis. Harder for the viewer to relate to F1/NASCAR. But both those respective brands have their mass appeal and glamour-factor.

@bb3xhrhj Yeah but we have crap for public transport and have to commute large distances to work and shop and have to pay for our own health insurance. You have access to a vast array of fuel efficient cars that we can not get also. It's all relative. Also any increase in our gas prices is a harder hit because it's a larger percentage of the overall cost. Our gas prices have doubled in last 6 years while Britain's has increased by more like 1/3

Like the show. You guys need to go find a Paul King narrated WRC video and learn how to pronounce all the drivers names though. Also you need some kind of official office edict on how to pronounce Citroen. Either the Frenchy way or English way but everyone making up their own interplolation is a little maddening.

The rally was Jari Matti Latvala's rally to win. I know the French robot is almost unbeatable on sealed surfaces...But JML was showing amazing pace! Leo, love shakedown but the names of our beloved WRC drivers are getting shit on. PETTER? ----> PET-HER Solberg. I know its not a big deal but the Eurosport guys destroyed every drivers name! All is well. Solberg showed us what he can do with a proper backing team. This year will be the year that LOEB falls. Cheers!

@541oregon I know they didn't have much time to prepare but the Eurosport coverage really sucked. I gave up after the 3rd day because it was painfully boring. North One's coverage was a little stale creatively but at least it was competent. Last years live coverage of the power stages was great on ESPN UK and will sorely be missed this year.

@jeep6242 Agreed. But the coverage was set up on super short notice(day 1 didn't even have the real commentator). Its not even for sure yet Eurosport will get the job permanantly. So fingers crossed it will get much much better.
