  • before i die, i want to see the 2 korea's unify.

  • Arirang- ari(beautiful) rang(used as honorary followed after a person's name or title among the young since the three kingdoms period til Josun dynasty in korea).

    Therefore it's not Arirang Pass.

Arariyo- it's an ancient korean that lost its meaning along the way but is translated as lovesick(heartbreak) by many korean scholars analogized from similar sounding korean being used today. Used as a verb.

Seems like alot of Koreans take the song for granted that they know the song but not truly.

  • Thai army War in Korea

  • wonderful!

  • fantastic

  • I love this song. tanks. Sizi seviyorum. kucak dolusu sevgiler.

    sbilgiler@yahoo.com

  • I want to cry ;____;

  • This is such recognizable song worldwide. The melody is so beautiful, so haunting.... Even for non-Koreans, it is well known.

  • @chwh88my they are hanbok traditional korean

  • 아리랑 아리랑 아라리요

    arirang arirang arariyo

    아리랑 고개로 넘어간다

(I am) crossing the arirang hill

Arirang is not merely love song. The theme of the best-known part is love.

In Korea, when person passed through one's hard time in life, he (or she) calls it as "I crossed over the hard hill"

Arirang is a korean folk song which you can sing in your hard time. Life's trials and suffering, joy/anger/love/happy..... And regain your energy to start again.

    : )

  • @BB2087 Thank you very much for that. It certainly helps all of us to understand what this lovely folk song is all about. Kamsahamnida!

  • Very beautiful song!!!

  • Beautiful

  • I first heard this beautiful song when I was a US soldier in Korea in 1951.

It was wartime and there was very little music, But the melody has

    lingered on in my mind.

    Deralte

  • Arirang is Korea's most beautiful traditional song. If you, try to steal Arirang. You are offending the whole history of Korea. Watch your attitude.

  • @99xRareCandy 'Just like a white person would'...? That wasn't very nice. I never liked it when my friends in the military called both South and North Koreans 'Bucket Heads' andIi always called them on it. They said, don't worry, the koreans are more racist than the Japanese. Were they correct after all? Try not slandering a whole race or nation because of one person's lack of education.

  • @99xRareCandy oh sorry. I misunderstood.

  • honestly - music does not have any boundary. even though, I hate communist, but this song is a very touching.

  • @ybaotruong South Korea is not communist state....

  • @okichan4 this isn't k-pop. You probably don't know how offensive your comment is. Why don't you just keep to yourself if you don't know correctly or just ask.

  • Nice K-pop

  • @chwh88my

Those aren't kimonos; I believe they're Hanboks. Also, they're Korean, not Japanese....

  • For those who don't know, China just claimed that Arirang is THEIR folk song along with SSireum (which is a old korean sport). I'm sorry but I have to say. WTF CHINA just because Arirang was voted the most beautiful song in the WORLD, you don't have the rights to claim something that isn't yours. Stop trying to take advantage of weaker countries. First Japan with it's claim on Dokdo island... and now this. Great. Just Great.

+Wtf Korean government for not making such things official before hand

  • @tokky1004 lol when was Arirang woted most beautiful song in the world?

  • @chwh88my ?

  • i sung this song for my 4th grade choir concert

  • KOGURYO IS CHINESE, GANDO IS CHINESE, SHILLA AND BAEKJE ARE ALL CHINESE... NOW ARIRANG IS CHINESE, WHATS NEXT GENERAL YI SUN SHIN IS CHINESE, HUNDAI/KIA ARE CHINESE, THE ENTIRE KOREAN PENINSULA IS CHINESE!!??? Commie land grabbing imperialist Chinese pigs always amaze me.

  • I love this song. I can remember singing it 8 years ago when I was still in school for a competition. Everything about this song is just so awesome. The melody, the lyrics, and especially the story behind the song. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for uploading it. :)

  • @20AiaBeth You are most welcome and Kamsahamnida! *bow*

  • @djgukfan a lot of your words have amnida shimnida at the end - we have a serial running now here in my country smthg with palace suuuper cute love it espacially the cooking and women super beautiful

  • @Elementfifth Yeah that's showing on my TV too every week

  • @20AiaBeth "Arirang" in January 2009 sung in Seoul by the Vienna Boys´Choir currently at my channel..::)

  • @treblefan77 Thank you for the news and I will check it out!

  • アリランは中国の文化の一部だろ。

    捏造民族朝鮮人。

    Arirangis part of Chinese culture.

    do not copy!

  • @yusuke19840923 LOL you're telling Koreans to not copy their own song.

  • @yusuke19840923 .... but arirang is in korean...

  • Now commie imperialist land grabbing chinese pigs submitted Arirang as Chinese... Whats next???

  • @jxtsful I am Chinese Canadian, but I can only speak for myself. And this is definitely not part of Chinese culture. This is the first time I hear about this. I can see why Koreans want to defend this as a part of their identity because it is such a beautiful song.

  • I'm listening to this after watching f(x) Koala... And even though I'm a pacific islander and not even one drop of Korean blood... I love this song ^_^

  • awesome song~

  • Hermosa canción..hermosa voz

  • I love this song, i am going to perform it with my friend in our korean academy! i really hope Korea wil be reunified soon ;_;

  • @cogleecrep13 Good luck with that! :_:

  • @cogleecrep13

maintain the status quo is better,

  • doesn anyone know the version with korean and english. one of the lines is " if he leaves me and does not return to me, he will soon long for me oh arirang"

  • @llHyRaXll thats what ive been looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @llHyRaXll thats what ive been lookin for

    I sung this in HS!

  • @Bronzebeauty18 yeah for real its a good song

  • Beautiful

    kamsahamnida

  • We sang this in Choir... abd now that I look at the words we jacked it up. :) I really love this song though. What is it for becuse I knoe this song is really popular in Korea. I always wonderd what it ment.

  • @starkens101 Haha, don't tell you teacher though, otherwise you guys will be made to stay behind after class and learn the correct lyrics! LOL!

  • i really like this song. i am from america but it still such a moving song for me. she has such a beautiful voice.

  • I love North Korea and South Korea too.

    Love one Korea

  • When I first heard of her song, Ri, I enjoyed of her clear 'nunciation. Hearing different song, I am very surprised at her multi-colored vocal tone. Very warming and untained recital. Thanks for sharing.

  • Love this, had to sing it with my choir, that's beautifull

  • @LalaMelody123 Why do you insist that you are right and someone else is wrong. The fact is the English lyrics was provided by a Korean. Her pronunciation is diffident from yours, so it is not a case of right or wrong is it.

It is unfortunate hat the word "Urine" and not "oo-reen" is used as there is an English word, "urine" which as you know means piss using the English slang word. So please don't confuse the two issues. Lastly , it is really a non-issue, so don't make a fuss over nothing.

  • @djgukfan "The fact is the English lyrics was provided by a Korean." The Korean was simply wrong. Well, it happens quite regularly when Koreans provide whatever they provide in English. :)) This really is an issue, since pronunciation suggested by this version is very wrong. Koreans do not say "you-reen" (as in "urine"), the do say "oo-reen".

  • @rihwawon Are you familiar with the phrase, "You are barking up the wrong tree"? I simply copy and past the lyrics. If you want a more correct version, start you own YouTube account and post your own songs and lyrics and stop making a fuss! Or better still start a threat about better English translations and pronunciation for Koreans who are know known for their skills in the English language. BTW, I am going to leave the original lyrics as I have found it!

  • @djgukfan "BTW, I am going to leave the original lyrics as I have found it!" Too bad.

  • @rihwawon On second thought, I will change it to, "oo-reen". Just for you and no body else. BTW, I love your dramas too!

  • @djgukfan It's not for me, really. :) I wanted to make a link to this video from my blog, but hesitated, because of... you know... It should be something like ooreene, actually. I forgot about the last "e". Thank you for this wonderful song. :)

  • @rihwawon Hahaha! Well, to maintain international peace and harmony, I have corrected the word as you have so kindly pointed out. If there anything else you want me to change please do not hesitate to ask. Best wishes from the UK.

  • Beatiful Song <3

Its originally from north or south? God bless SK and NK to find a way to unite one day..;(

  • @faceless72

This song is originally from one country which is Korea!!

  • Thank you for beautiful song and picture.

  • @achan1969 どういたしまして。 Dō itashi mashite.

  • arirang that composed by steve jablonsky is also very nice. it is used as the film music "dragon war" by korean director "Shim Hyung-rae" he is just small man, but so much capable.

  • North Korea is Best Korea.

    the two korea are beutiful

  • PLEASE NO WAR IN KOREA!!! :(

  • Thanks for posting this song . I am so happy cause I got 97% in our practicum in Music. I wish that this song have been the national anthem of Korea a very great ad inspiring song

  • Excellent! really good song..so sad why... Koria must to separate. Wish all of you will be the one of Koria.

  • i am literally having goosebumps while listening to this

  • its really nice !

  • Arirang is the one same song at north and south. why korea have too be north and south apart. my family member some live in the north and other live in the south, they can not see each other. older member are pass away, they miss their sisiter and brother. why korea. why fight each other. we are korean. korean.

  • @fracui Yes, I totally agree with you. It is a crying shame that Korea is divided for so long. I just hope that the politicians will come to their senses soon. The Korean people both in the South and North are hurting badly.

  • @djgukfan

korea is i am not wrong, one just like vietnam,

the north faction is leaning towards china n russia,

the southern faction is leaning towards us n japan,

but it seem the southern faction is doing better in governing their side.

  • @djgukfan its stupid to fight there both korean well we were once fighting in the us but we didnt seperate we worked through our differences and here we are the miserable united states and south korea acts more united then uss lol

  • @fracui: Blame the USA and China, and to some extent Japan and Russia. Korea's always getting screwed by big powers around, and even the manchus made them vassals BEFORE taking over China. Korean gals are hot though, hotter than Japanese gals, better legs, and more feminine than Chinese gals.

  • @HayabusaSenToTai If we keep blaming people and stop the forgiving, things get worse. So I suppose you want Korea to get screwed even more over than it already is and was. Stop with your bullshit and spread the love.

  • @aero2525: Yeah, I don't mind spreading my lurvvvvv on them korean gals, send em over man! The more the merrier! :P

  • @aero2525

"The PRC's revision of Goguryeo history, in an attempt to recharacterize it as a Chinese provincial state rather than an independent Korean kingdom, has received international criticism for making a flawed and politically motivated rewriting of history. Such criticisms came from numerous scholars from other countries such as the United States, Russia, Mongolia, and Australia." Soi Am I lieing what I just said? Chinese distortion, huh??? Yes, Chinese media is bullshit.

  • @HayabusaSenToTai

You are kind of dumb and at the sametime ignorant. Korea was first victum of imperialism from japan and then the divison came. Manchus are nothing but Korean people.

  • @Hananim91: Yeah manjus are "korean", and jesus christ is korean too...Oh wait! There ARE koreans who claim they are JC, like sung yung-moon etc!! Stop having such inferiority complexes, be proud of who you are and don't lay stupid claims as such, it just shows how insecure you are!

  • @HayabusaSenToTai

Oh, Goguryeo is Chinese, Hangul is Chinese, oh wait. Chinese was ALSO slave of Manchu and Mongols during Qing and Yuan. You remember Quere Order?? I know more Chinese history than you. Stop spreading your inferior complexity to Korean vids, you dick. It's just SHOWS how insecure you are.

  • @Hananim91: 满口胡言,这你该懂得嘛。。。and if you don't, then shut the fuck up you lil vassal! LOL!

  • LA CANCION QUE EXPRESA A SU PAIS......LO MEJOR DEL MUNDO.......BEST OF THE BEST.........GOD, HOW I MISS COREA......

  • Greetings from Germany. I miss Korea too. Studied there for 2 semesters and really fell in love with the culture.

  • i love the way a korean women sounds when she sings traditionally. So original and beautiful, as if years of such a distinct history pours from her soul.

  • I miss Korea. It has been too long since I was last there.

  • @BrickPa Hey, why wait any longer? Christmas is just round the corner. Book your ticket to Seoul now and celebrate Christmas in down town Seoul! Just think of those lovely Kimchi and BBQ beef - hmm, it is more than finger licking good! Best wishes and God Bless.

  • @djgukfan Thank you for the idea! Seoul is a marvelous city but I would have to get back into the Chiri-San Maek and Taebek-san Maek and see how those areas have progressed. I'd like to see Nonsan and Puyo, Andong and Yongju and Chin-do and a score of other smaller cities and towns.

You would probably laugh at some of the things I remember and might miss, since a contemporay Korean might have no knowledge of them. But, a visit would be excellent.

  • ito ba ung kakantahin nmin ! hahayzzzzz!

  • 난이 노래 엄청 좋아해요;

    화려한 ;)))))

  • Wait, wait, WAIT! Hmongs have relations to Koreans???!?! You’ve gotta be fvckin’ with me! (Sorry for the language.) I’m Hmong and I’ve never knew that! Hmmm, maybe that explains why soooo many Hmong people love anything Korean. Lol. It’s true!! I loooove Koreans!!! But real talk tho, Hmongs and Koreans were once related?? Wow!

  • @SLBxINLOVExBLS and if u go further back we were all once africans. still proud?

  • @jaycbll: -inserts sarcasm- (gaspsss) Seriously? My ancestors’ ancestors’ ancestors’ ancestors, etc. etc. were Africans? Fvcking awesome!! =D

    .

    .

Btw, were you trying to be funny or racist? Don’t take it to offense because I said “racist”. I just really wanna what you were trying to say… and because you asked “r you still proud?” as if one shouldn’t be proud to be African. Everyone should be proud of who/what they are regardless.

  • @SLBxINLOVExBLS

    a. u dont indicate sarcasm. ever.

    b. it was a serious question, would you be proud of the fact that a little african exists in you. most asians detest that....hence the curiosity.

  • @jaycbll:

Then my answer to you is: whether or not I have a little African in me, I'm the proudest to be who I am and whatever I am no matter what. Hope that answers your question, my dear. Have a good one. =)

  • @jaycbll Hm... WTH with you about 'most asians detest them'? I have no idea, and do not wish to know, what your race is, but what you said was just racist itself

  • @jihi700 i didnt deny being racist.

  • Đồ Rê Mí 2010 - ARIRANG (Show diễn cuối vòng 3) ..please wacth this.

  • I love this version so much.

  • I love This Song.

  • not just good. .........not just good.....it reminds me how big korea is in my mind. .... I can't just describe. ...I may cry like a small kid....can't write comment anymore..just beautiful..

  • it is really good. finest arirang among I have listened recently.

  • @mmriann Thank you for your comment. I think so too.

  • @mmriann This is a North Korean version. They have different style of singing then Southern Pansori. Finer Vibrato and use of falsettos. It's great but I prefer Southern style with less falsetto and more core sound.

  • I like this version alot more than westernized one.

  • Was the last line mistranslated intentionally?

Dongji = senior comrade, most likely Kim Ilsung

  • @daehanmindecline The truth is, I didn't translate the lyrics as I am not Korean but Chinese. If you think you are able to provide a more accurate translation, I would welcome it with open arms and amend what I have published as soon as possible. Thank you for your interest.

  • @djgukfan Not sure I could going by the romanisation of the Korean lyrics. Do you have the original?

  • Comment removed

  • @daehanmindecline the Korean is 동지섣달, which translates to the 11th and 12th months of the year. I'm not Korean, but I imagine the song was written well before anyone had ever heard of Kim Il-sung or communism.

  • So, was the last line mistranslated intentionally?

dongji = comrade, most likely Kim Ilsung

  • so love is song

  • Such a pretty sounding song<3

  • This arirang contains strong North Korean accent.

  • @watsupzzful Well spotted, the singer, Ri Kyong Suk is North Korean.

  • FROM COLOMBIA, I LOVE KOREA. I AM A TEACHER IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN MAGANGUE BOLIVAR COLOMBIA. THIS SONG REMEMBER MY STAND IN KOREA.

CADA VEZ QUE ESCUCHO ESTA CANCION LLORO DE LA EMOCION Y REVIVO LOS MARAVILLOSOS 12 DIAS QUE ESTUVE EN KOREA REPRESENTANDO A COLOMBIA EN ENTRENAMIENTO EN USO DE TICS.

  • I sang this to my wife the day i asked her to marry back in Munsan

  • @ernie7429 Ah! the secret is out! . Obviously you got the answer you wanted. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

  • I really love the tune of Arirang~. It's so powerful..it sounds really simple and calm to me, but it also evokes a lot of emotions. It's a really nice song!

  • Everytime im alone, walking home from the bus or some friends i always hum this :) rly calm and nice song ;P

  • i am very sorry to hear you lost your wife. I am also married to a Korean woman and I don't believe any better women exist on the planet. I can almost feel your pain. I hope you had many good years and good memories together.

  • i love these kind of songs. but i hate KPOP. sorry.

  • @GeMaMaPe

    Kpop = SOuth Korea.

    Dis = Noth Korea

  • @99xRareCandy u didn't realize that verse was in Korean?

  • this sounds like a hmong song.

  • @97060041 Perhaps a little bit. I like hmong songs too! A message to my hmong friends; do you utmost to promote your culture, language and music.

  • @djgukfan wats hmong songs

  • @asians1213 Hmong tripe is a group of people living in Burma or Myanmar as it is called now. Unfortunately, they are persecuted by the Burmese government and a large number of them are forced to live in the jungle and in abject poverty and they need our support now! The Hmongs are Christians as I am - may God deliver them from the sufferings, hunger and persecution. Therefore the answer to your questions is, they are songs sung by the Hmong people. Do a search on YouTube.

  • @97060041 Hmong are related to Koreans way back. if that counts for anything

  • @Vandrandelik i don't get it.

  • the best korean song ever!

  • I love this song!! My mother used to sing this to me when i was a kid =)

  • @BeatDaJam Aaah! Good memories I hope.

  • @djgukfan HAHAHA yea, awsome memories

  • 한국말 자랑?ㅋ

I think korea music ROCKS :D lol

    it sounds very kewl.

  • :D omg i remember this song, when I was in 7th grade my choir teacher made us sing this song :D beautiful..even if we couldnt sing it right :)

  • @99xRareCandy Don't be silly, "Urine" used in this context is NOT an English word, it is merely Korean pronounciation - got it?

  • @djgukfan lol

  • i just needed this today...:) thank you

  • This song is well known in Thailand especially the audience as my age.

  • woo, I've fallen in love with this song. Love Korea !

  • this sound really fine .stop haters

  • @haesookvip I totally agree with you:)

  • I am sorry but this ARIRANG seems chinese. The sound of Korean original song should be from from Arirang not from neck....

  • @jhsuhmail

Actually, this is likely a closer pronunciation to the original arirang. North Korean dialect changed but not as much as the South Korean dialect.

But having been born from S. Korea, I also feel that this isn't as good as the South Korean versions.

  • her voice that seems too fake as if she is forced to sound like this lol and the western instrument made the whole song sound like a total disaster.. even though i dont think there is ANYONE who can sing this song as good as the elderly in Korea .haha. This song is a very sad song, the lyrics has its depth and myself who born n raised in Korea still dont fully understand the song. anyway this is just my personal opinion..

  • LOL. 리경숙 is a North Korean propaganda singer. She isn't even trained in traditional Korean singing although that's pretty obvious. There are people who live their entire lives perfecting traditional Korean singing. Go listen to them instead of this garbage karaoke music.

  • You have to listen to the South Korean versions of this for the real thing. This lady has a North Korean/Japanese accent and her singing style is pretty campy and nonauthentic.

  • @melonbarmonster I have to disagree with your assessment. The singer in question is Korean and she happens to be from North Korea. Are you implying that North Koreans are not Koreans? If so that would be the most stupid thing I have ever heard.

The fact is like all countries in the world, there are regional dialect differences and therefore you would expect variations of this folk song and they are all as authentic as they come. You are not Korean are you?

  • @djgukfan Sorry but you're just wrong on facts. There are regional standardsof arirang in Korea in N and S. Unfortunately this isn't a standard version but a campy karaoke version of arirang. The sad fact is that regional standards sung by masters with "national treasure" titles, are all in South Korea. In NK there is no infrastructure to support indigenous music apart from state propaganda. Hopefully it still survives but no one's never seen or heard it.

  • @djgukfan This isn't even traditional Korean singing. She's singing it in "modern" NK style singing which translates to poor quality karaoke level synth music in the real world. Comparing this to master singers from SK is an insult to Korean culture and history.

  • yes, I totally agree with you. Anyway, I still love this song and I don't see to hear any Japanese accent in this song. Go Korea and go Arirang !

  • @melonbarmonster

is there a South Korea version on youtube?

I'm very interested in this song.

  • @PandaPo1980 type in arirang in search and you should have pages of the song. This isn't a NK version of arirang. Traditional North Korean variations exist but the Kim Jongil government might have killed it. This version is a NK government propaganda version.

  • @melonbarmonster

    Thank you!

I typed in Arirang and there are many results. i don't know which is the traditional one. and seems like most of them are the communist propaganda.

Can you show me a web page?

  • @PandaPo1980 Most of them are not NK but there are a good number of them. Japanese and North Korean versions tend to be lower quality. Check out the arirang article on wikipedia.

  • Why are you such a prejudice on North Korea ? Come on, I mean whatever version is it, as long as it is good to listen and fine, that's all. Understand ?

  • @david79936 Well said David! I personally think this is the best version, period...and thank you for your contribution.

  • @david79936 Believe it or not there are cultural and historical standards to traditional Korean songs like Arirang just as there are to Appalachian folk music, negro spirituals, Mongolian throat singing and the like. The fact that you think such standards in ability and authenticity doesn't apply to traditional Korean music says more about how little you know about Korean culture than anything else.

  • @david79936 And NK if you haven't been watching the news is a hellhole where millions of people have been killed from starvation, political death camps and the like. This lady's style is unique to NK propaganda singers because those are the only type of singing allowed in NK. That's not admirable nor interesting but a sad sad tragedy. You might as well be admiring Nazi military regalia while ignoring the historical context. Your choice.

  • @melonbarmonster Please NO POLITICS on this thread please. I will have to ban you if you post any more comments like this. This channel is about music period!

  • @djgukfan Truth is truth being it about Korean music or about the sad situation in NK. I'm answering other people's questions by the way. Ban the questions too if you're going to ban me for answering them.

  • @melonbarmonster NO, you are more than welcome to voice your opinion. Just focus on the music. That is all I am asking, okay?

  • @melonbarmonster How dare you compare traditional Korean music to "Nazi military regalia"? Traditional Korean music has been sadly appropriated by the NK regime as a type of communist political propaganda. That much is a tragedy but if the Nazis had appropriated the music of Beethoven or Mozart to for their evil purposes could we hate Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata today? If we did we would all be fools.
