I have the same boat and was wondering how much weight it can handle? I my self am about 380lb. The only other weight in the boat would be a 5hp motor and fuel tank which is going to be mounted up front.
@thelurewasher I think you would be fine, this old boat is rated at 800lb and remember thats "safe weight" not telling you to go out and sink your boat, just saying that 800lb is the recommended load for this boat, personally I think I could add a lot more than 800lb to mine, but would struggle in trying to do so. Thanks for posting!
Hello indy I'm working on a similar project. I have a 12ft aluminum I recently gutted out. My bare floor is similar to yours. with the small humps across the bottom I was just wondering how did you lay the carpet? Does the carpet lay over smooth? I was thinking about laying down rubber mats myself but carpet seems to be a little cheaper. Thanks for any help.
@GwillE100 I got the Grey colored carpet from Home Depot, and they even had spray adhesive there, similar to what you would glue Astro Turf to concrete with,I started to use it,but then decided not to. I liked the idea of just laying the carpet in loosely so that I could pull it out and shake it off when it was dirty :). But you could easily spray adhesive in and permenantley tack it. Thanks!
They can handle quite a bit of weight, I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of 600lb., this boat is a 14ft. but the extra 2 feet is mostly the bow, which is just extra and not really touching the water when it's in the water.
What kind of sand paper did you use, what grit? And the paint, for both the trailer and the boat, what kind did you use? The boat I'm doing is so similar to yours. I just want to make sure the paint holds up.
I didn't use much sand paper, the pressure sprayer I used did a pretty good job of getting rid of any radicals, the paint I used was Krylon Aluminum paint, but you could go to Home Depot etc. and ask them for a good aluminum paint and it would work just as good, for the trailer I used gloss black, just regular spray paint.
That's a good question, it actually doesn't though. I painted it black so that it throws off other fishermen at night if they try to spotlight us when we're bowfishing or w/e.
nice job buddy, that thing will last you forever.Lets see a video of one of those catfish before you run out of summer.By the way whats your boats name?
Gonna go out again Friday night or Saturday, hopefully we'll get some good videos then, but cats bite all through the fall here also. A name huh? Hmm...how about The Hillbilly Hellion? LOL

I'm doing the same sort of thing to a boat I just got. On that carpet on the bottom, is that directly on the aluminum bottom?
bbj0322 2 years ago
Yep, I put a couple pieces of rubber tape on it to hold it in place and it works great.
