Probe did an aweful job at this port. Judging by how well MK3 and UMK3 turned out on genesis, there's NO excuse for this half assed fail of an MK attempt. As if they didnt screw it up enough the first time, some genious asked probe to come back & do MK2 which wasnt as bad as MK1, but still no where near the potential it couldve been. Im glad they finally wised up and kicked probe to the curb for MK3. I can only wonder how much better MK 1 and 2 wouldve came out if they didnt have probe do it.

one of my fav games of all time....personally i think the music kicks ass.

Sega had a lot of titles with great soundtracks....another example being Streets of Rage 2....simply amazing

I like the original soundtrack (Dan Forden FTMFW) but I'm sick of everyone down-talking the genesis soundtrack. It sounds better than SNES attempt to port the original. And SNES had SWEAT. Need I say more.

@KitanavsMileena assume that it is 1993,and no one knows the "blood code" for the genesis version of mortal kombat.In that case,no blood at all is better than sweat in place of blood,but the SNES censored fatalities are better than the Genesis censored fatalities.for example:my favorite character is sub-zero.GENESIS:all sub-zero gets is a wussy uppercut that launches the opponent into the air!what an embarrasment(pardon my spelling) but in the SNES version he actually gets a cool substitute

@StockRoom209 Nintendo and Sega both have strong and weak points,I have no favorites.but if i had to choose,then yes,i'd say Nintendo.I'm just saying that if both the genesis and the SNES had ONLY censored fatalities,the SNES version of the game would be the best version.i'm not comparing the games themselves as much as the way sega and Nintendo replicated Mortal Kombat.

The Genesis version was soooooo ugly. The only thing it had better then the SNES was the blood. Other then that GRAPHICS were awful. Sound effects were even worse. SNES was much better.

The visuals in this version were actually pretty decent considerig the Genesis' limitations (especially in terms of colour). The audio (other than the music, which kicked ass) was absolutely HORRIBLE.

OK Most people will agree,the music on the sega genesis is nice,specially the stage at the pit,BUT Super Nintendo Made the music very similar to the arcade,that is why here sounds different because Genesis could not handle or did not have the sounds of the original music.

Arcade because best graphics, and SNES (censored) because the great new composed Music (better sound as Arcade Version)

Well at the time these ports game out, most people preferred the Genesis version and it outsold the SNES version. Why? Genesis had blood, SNES didn't.

the controls of the Genesis version was FAR superior to the SNES, and i prefer the Genesis music too! the only thing the SNES had was good graphics and sound effects, i consider it otherwise to be an awful port.

the snes version is better, the genesis version needs a code just to turn on the blood, and it doesnt shout the character's name wen they're chosen or hav won a match. sub-zero's pose is incorrect too. his hand supposed to be near his chest, not up like scorpion's

Yes, but the Genesis version at least has  blood in it and Sub Zero and Scorpion's winning poses are both exactly the same. SNES version may have better graphics, but the Genesis version beats it in the sound department. And blood of course. Sega wasn't as worried about vioelnce as Nintendo was. Final verdict: Genesis>>>SNES.

Granted the SNES version was better in terms of the visuals and audio, but the Genesis version was hands down better in terms of gameplay. The controls weren't as stiff, making the moves easier to execute, and it had various secret features that made it more fun to play. Also, the main reason why MK became as huge as it did at the time was because of the blood and gore!!! You take that away from the game then you are essentially taking away the heart of MK's appeal!

I hear you man, Sub-Zero's pose is all wrong in this version. Lets face it apart from the blood cheat, the SNES version owns this. Listen to that horrible cheap, compressed sound, Genesis could not handle it.

yea the music is a little on the side of cheesy. Nonetheless, I kinda like it because it brings back old memories of playin this thing. The SNES version had good graphics and good sound, but terrible game play, glitches, it would freeze a lot. There were a lot of issues with it, but hey SNES made the perfect come back with MK II.
