now a later model mustang 4.6 3v makes 300 hp naturally aspirated and at 14 psi boost would put out 600 hp, where the 3.0 liter supra at 14 psi would only put out 426.65 hp, the point is forced induction is by far the more effective power adder, and displacement is a factor, now there modded mustangs and supras running sub 10 second passes at the strip but neither one will do so stock, stock the supra was faster for these year models but if given mods of even psi boost each the 5.0 has advantage
both these cars are built with fule economy and emissions standards as the guideline, performance sadly is the least important aspect of thier design, they both are close in weight and posess engines with a decent rod to stroke ratio that they can work well at higher rpm, the mustang's 5.0 liter is naturally aspirated and stock makes 215 hp the supra with 7 psi boost makes 320, if the 5.0 liter was giver forced induction of 7 psi then its output would be 322.5 hp but with a better tourque curve

First of all, neither of these cars are geared to move a 6,000lb object. Second, my truck obviously can't "keep up" with these cars, it's big and heavy. I would take them offroad though, and leave them in my dust. Third, The only thing I'd swap in my truck would be the motor, and it would be for either a Chevy 572ci big block, a 32V DOHC 330ci GT motor, a 24V 6.7L Cummins, or the new 6.2L 12V SOHC Ford V8. I'd still keep my 3.73:1 gearing though.
@phattacorider Aww come on man stay true too the game and put on a pair of turbos or maybe one big turbo, hell your 3v motor is a perfect candidate with stock cams and if your really gonna beat it up then swap out a 5.4/330 ci gt forged crank but your stock bottom end will hold 7-10 psi no problem, the real turbo issue is pre ignition, thats why ( like the 330 ci gt motor ) I would go with a supercharger, but a centerfiugal, they come with an ignition retard box and are bolt on and ready to run.
@phattacorider and centerfiugal superchargers are just belt driven turbos but without all the heat and backpressure, theres a guy at the track here that runs a civic with a big turbo, it actually runs in the 10's 1/4 mile, but after every race he's swapping spark plugs and they look bad, like they are coated with melted piston, but the guys running 10's in the fox bodys with paxtons drive too the track - race - and drive home,so for the money I would go with a centerfugial and bigger injectors.
Well it all really depends on the setup and how everything is tuned. If I'm going specifically for racing, I'd go turbo on an LS3 and forged internals, 20psi, somewhere in the neighborhood of 90mm, CO2 or NO2 intercooled. If I'm daily driving and feel like showing off, I'd go with a twin screw blower since they achieve better pressure and more efficient operation with the internal cooler because of a shorter distance betwen the t-body and the blower.
Now if I want something to fit my criteria of "fun", I'd go centrifugal since it has all the features of a turbo without the turbo. My only problem with centrifugal is running so much hosing before and after the intercooler that it makes boost inefficiently at the heads. The 4V 5.4L GT can handle 1000hp on stock internals, according to the Hennessey rep at the 2008 SEMA show (who TT and SC a GT). It would be my motor of choice is I ever swapped my shit 3V.
@phattacorider Yea that supercharged quad cam 5.4 is bullet proof, ford hand assembles the premium internals and people do run them at over 1000 hp and they hold up like champs and best of all you get a great powerband of torque from off idle to redline, but after all thats the beauty of a supercharger i.e. no turbo lag, less heat, and no backpressure. Now chevy has a neat design with the zr1's 6.2 intercooler and ford has awd on the sho, too bad they wont do supercharged and awd, would be epic.
Well today's turbo systems are getting much better, where lag isn't even noticeable. The greatest thing about a turbo over a supercharger (other than being able to achieve higher boost) is efficiency. Being run off gas pressure and not a belt, turbos don't hinder the power output of a motor anywhere near as much as a supercharger. If I wanted top end, I'd go with a finely designed and tuned turbo system. If I wanted lower end, I'd go supercharger.
@phattacorider Thats a big part of what I call quality of life behind the wheel, sure you can build for absolute top end drag strip performance, but its a lot more fun to enjoy pulling away from the redlight and feeling yourself being pressed into the seat without crushing the speed limit trying to enjoy it, having to keep the revs up and drive all or nothing is less fun as a daily driver and more wear/tear and trouble, I would rather be a few hundreths slower on road but have more range of use

Your comparing a car with tons of work, stock 98 TT Supra vs Stock 2008 Mustang GT and the GT would walk it. First of all, neither of these cars are geared to move a 6,000lb object. Second, my truck obviously can't "keep up" with these cars, it's big and heavy. I would take them offroad though, and leave them in my dust. Third, The only thing I'd swap in my truck would be the motor, and it would be for either a Chevy 572ci big block, a 32V DOHC 330ci GT motor, a 24V 6.7L Cummins, or the new 6.2L 12V SOHC Ford V8. I'd still keep my 3.73:1 gearing though.

@phattacorider Aww come on man stay true too the game and put on a pair of turbos or maybe one big turbo, hell your 3v motor is a perfect candidate with stock cams and if your really gonna beat it up then swap out a 5.4/330 ci gt forged crank but your stock bottom end will hold 7-10 psi no problem, the real turbo issue is pre ignition, thats why ( like the 330 ci gt motor ) I would go with a supercharger, but a centerfiugal, they come with an ignition retard box and are bolt on and ready to run.

@phattacorider and centerfiugal superchargers are just belt driven turbos but without all the heat and backpressure, theres a guy at the track here that runs a civic with a big turbo, it actually runs in the 10's 1/4 mile, but after every race he's swapping spark plugs and they look bad, like they are coated with melted piston, but the guys running 10's in the fox bodys with paxtons drive too the track - race - and drive home,so for the money I would go with a centerfugial and bigger injectors.

Well it all really depends on the setup and how everything is tuned. If I'm going specifically for racing, I'd go turbo on an LS3 and forged internals, 20psi, somewhere in the neighborhood of 90mm, CO2 or NO2 intercooled. If I'm daily driving and feel like showing off, I'd go with a twin screw blower since they achieve better pressure and more efficient operation with the internal cooler because of a shorter distance betwen the t-body and the blower.

Now if I want something to fit my criteria of "fun", I'd go centrifugal since it has all the features of a turbo without the turbo. My only problem with centrifugal is running so much hosing before and after the intercooler that it makes boost inefficiently at the heads. The 4V 5.4L GT can handle 1000hp on stock internals, according to the Hennessey rep at the 2008 SEMA show (who TT and SC a GT). It would be my motor of choice is I ever swapped my shit 3V.

@phattacorider Yea that supercharged quad cam 5.4 is bullet proof, ford hand assembles the premium internals and people do run them at over 1000 hp and they hold up like champs and best of all you get a great powerband of torque from off idle to redline, but after all thats the beauty of a supercharger i.e. no turbo lag, less heat, and no backpressure. Now chevy has a neat design with the zr1's 6.2 intercooler and ford has awd on the sho, too bad they wont do supercharged and awd, would be epic.

Well today's turbo systems are getting much better, where lag isn't even noticeable. The greatest thing about a turbo over a supercharger (other than being able to achieve higher boost) is efficiency. Being run off gas pressure and not a belt, turbos don't hinder the power output of a motor anywhere near as much as a supercharger. If I wanted top end, I'd go with a finely designed and tuned turbo system. If I wanted lower end, I'd go supercharger.

@phattacorider Thats a big part of what I call quality of life behind the wheel, sure you can build for absolute top end drag strip performance, but its a lot more fun to enjoy pulling away from the redlight and feeling yourself being pressed into the seat without crushing the speed limit trying to enjoy it, having to keep the revs up and drive all or nothing is less fun as a daily driver and more wear/tear and trouble, I would rather be a few hundreths slower on road but have more range of use

Gearing, weight, aerodynamics, center of gravity, tires,(hell you can't even buy tires that'll do what the tires on a Veyron are capable of.) 50 grand in a fox body will get you a fast Fox but even MORE buyers remorse.

That Supra has about 30 grand in power mods on top of a 40 grand sticker. You spend even 50 grand on a Fox body, and you'll beat ANYTHING on the street except maybe a Veyron... Still a stock bottom end on a twin T Supra can hold 750 HP all day long so it'd be a tough sell no matter what. Supras ARE badass!!
