"You know us Americans - we speak as we think." - Only uneducated ones, my dear. Unfortunately, those get the most airtime I'm afraid. They tend to talk more.
"The bumping of the husbands is not one of my specialities, mademoiselle." -Suchet's delivery is brilliant. Such a flawless deadpan.
"Horse shows and cattle shows but no ... actual shows, if you know what I mean." LOL, oh, Hastings, you were staying in La Pampa, I take it.
The Lovely Ms. Jane in her Pink dress and is admiring herself in the full length mirror and saying "So...How do I look?" to her personal maid. In compliance to her question, the maid humbly responds "You look lovely Mame"
Completely satisfied upon her appearance she grabs her fur wrap and with one last toss of the curls and pouty look at herself, she heads for the door. "What a lovely evening. I can't believe everything's going MY WAY!"
How awful to be subservient-- Especially to her! *SLAP!*
Lord Edgware looks so familiar ..but, i can't place him.. guess if they show the credit at the end i'll find out.. oh he's the guy that played and inspector and nephew to Ms Marple several times.
@lollipopfop I guess it's embarrassing because she meant it as sort of an apology for her remark - you know, "Please excuse me, I'm American." A.k.a. being American is synonymous for being rude.
@matzohball03 It was what the USA was famous for - being the land of freedom of speech, in comparison to old-fashioned Europe, where there were so many rules of etiquette to be taken into consideration. It is quite natural, especially for an emancipated American woman of this time, to say something like that - and be proud of it.
Carlotta is sooo different from how she's supposed to be! She was kind of quiet and moreover it was Jane who invited her to join them and Carlotta seemed really flattered. And she definitely didnt talk this much. and she didnt impersonate Poirot. God I could go on and on and on!
Jane on the other hand was selfish (REALLY selfish) and here they've shown her like she's some poor victim of a bad marriage and it's all so tragic.
Well, Poirot has met her 2 times, one time in bright daylight at close distance. Poirot has met Carlotta once. Wouldn't Poirot notice that it is Carlotta at the dinner and not Jane? Especialy if they enter converstion.
Poirot isnt going to be at the dinner. And she said herself at the end of the book that she didnt think Poirot was smart at all. thats why she send him to her husband . If she thought that he'd be able to put two and two together she never would have involved him.
@Asriyah241 (havn't read the book) But Jane doesn't know what Poirot will respond. He could come to the dinner, now he won't, but that seems more like luck than planing. Or, does Jane make her plans with Carlotta (put then to action) after Poirot has resent her offer?
im sorry. i replied to your comment before seeing the video. yeah you're right. that was risky. But that didnt happen in the book. she didnt invite Poirot

Having known a grand total of five Americans in my life (including dating one of them), I can say that statement is five for five. :P

Gah! How embarrassing. Why did she have to say that?

@matzohball03 Why is honesty and forthright communication embarrassing? I would call it mature and correct in most cases.

Curious. "I'd like to dictate a letter. Do you mind?" How out of character for a controlling man.

@rabbitsmom Depends on the man and the relationship to the assistant. People are not robots. They act all kind of ways. No chance of predicting.

@rabbitsmom Can't see your point. I think it is perfectly in character.
