Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first arrived in British Columbia in 1875. Church growth was slow at first but has steadily increased. Now some 22,000 Church members from 91 congregations located in British Columbia and northern Washington state will be served by the Vancouver British Columbia Temple. A total of nearly 180,000 Latter-day Saints live in Canada.
"We need everyone — the tired or worn out or lazy, and even those who are bound down with guilt, must be restored through repentance and forgiveness," he said. "Too many of our priesthood brethren are living below their privileges and the Lord's expectations."
Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve, said he was following his "father-son" instructions of last conference with directives Saturday to mothers and daughters.
Acknowledging he was speaking particularly to fathers, President Boyd K. Packer, president of the Quorum of the Twelve, explained the difference between priesthood authority and priesthood power, with the latter needed to help bless and protect homes and families.
As I gazed out over our sector, the entire community was pitch dark, beautifully lit by the full moon, it was eerily quiet. There was a big cloud of dust settling over La Pintana. That requires righteous living; it requires faith in the powers of Jesus Christ, but it can be done. I know positively that is true. If he had power over our agency, he would have used it long ago. That ought to give you a lot of courage when things look difficult around you and when temptations come. Just turn them down. He has no power over a righteous person."
Or maybe it's the peg leg worn by the man who at age 6 lost his limb in a mining explosion in Wales. As an adult, he walked the Great Plains of North America with his wife, limping on a wooden leg that left his stump so painful and bloody that he couldn't sleep at night. Instead, he filled his journal with westward-trek worries of other physical toils -- those suffered by his wife, who was pregnant with their first child.
Perhaps it's the christening gown so carefully crafted by the young woman crossing the Atlantic Ocean a century and a half ago. She was anxious to rejoin her fiance, who had gone ahead to the Great Salt Lake Valley and homesteaded in Coalville. Once the two were reunited and married, the christening gown eventually was worn by not only the woman's children and grandchildren but her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well -- 86 descendants in all.
Mormon Times has called on Latter-day Saints, some who live as far from Salt Lake City as the map will take them, to broaden the story of the Mormon pioneers.
So in the global church vernacular, the upcoming Pioneer Day holiday on July 24 may be just the marker for the beginning of an era that will not be exhausted as long as the church and its members continue to find new frontiers.

I'm convinced the grace and mission of God will reach to the ends of the earth. But the end of evangelicalism as we know it is close.
I notice you say "Christian media" will be reduced - so you admit that you are not Christian! Halleluljah!! - can I quote you? (Don't worry, I will anyway). Your pathetic little 'church' is about to wither away - not Christianity.
There are bad things that come from not being a member also. Like not getting that job you wanted because you are not LDS if you live within Salt Lake City or happy valley. Like being shunned or criticized if you mention that you are exmormon or Presbyterian. LOL!
I know the good old boy network and even witnessed it while I was in the church. Some would even go to the extreme to make sure the individual they contracted for the job was a full tithe payer. HA! Pretty good stuff huh? I got all of this from the same mormon playbook of persecution that you have been taught. Provide the persecution and then you can use it to align yourself with Christs persecution.
Daily, the LDS brethren are trying to prove that the teachings of Joseph Smith aren't weird and the church stands for something. I think they blew it and made alot of people mad with prop 8. I sometimes regret the fact that we use the word "faith" in
religious discussions.
Why? Because I think it's become a technical term that obscures for
many what should be and is a very simple concept. This has created
serious controversies and unnecessary misunderstandings.

did they help.
They dug right in without a gripe, a smile on their faces and
totally committed to helping total strangers. They were awesome.
