Now I know where Michael Jackson's riff for Black & White came from! Uncannily similar - the 1-bar riff (well, 2 in MJ's case), lasting throughout the song, the belated bass intro... but minus Partridge's understated vocal playing a hypnotic, ironic counterfoil to the arrangement. The one was all about the singer, the other was all about the song. Both good, but I know which one I prefer ;-).

@JavelBleach I like "Black & White" but "Stupidly Happy" is one of the most simple, repetitive AND most beautiful pop songs ever made. You can't blame MJ for stealing the riff though, his song was released almost 10 years before this one. So maybe it was the King of Pop who inspired my Dear God of Pop (Mr. Partridge) this time...
