I saw this movie on the night of July 16th,1982. It was my first outing since I got my driver's license earlier that day. This was, ans still is, an awesome video. Mr. T. definitely made a impression on me that night. It was scary at first because I was thinking "this guy is indestructible!" This great video brings back some incredible memories!
It's a bit hard to defend yourself when you are getting nailed by haymakers. That's all you hear from boxing fans ie where is his defence? It is only a film and if everyone had a good defence at all times then there would probably be no knockouts in the history of boxing. Besides he showed a good defence in Rocky I, Rocky II, in the rematch with Clubber and Rocky IV. And Apollo Creed was largely based on Muhammad Ali so he had a good defence but Rocky Conquered him in the second movie.
Rocky would have parkinsons after his first 3 fights... garunteed parkinsons immediatly after his retirement.. he doesnt have any kind of defencive technique at all....

It's very interesting to see how different Rocky's opponents are. Apollo is flamboyant and arrogant but he wasn't an asshole and even taught Rocky and became friends with him. Clubber was just an arrogant fast talking asshole, and Ivan was the strong silent type who was scary and deadly too. Rocky might have done better here if he took his training seriously and if Mickey was there with him, since Mickey having trouble with his heart was a major distraction.
@terrain600 I think he would, or at the very least stand a much better chance. He didn't take his training as seriously as he should have and knowing that Mickey was having trouble with his heart really distracted him and left him open to Clubber Lang's powerful punches which he is why Rocky was defeated easily. The style he learned did help but his stratagy worked a lot too. He taunted Clubber. Clubber is too aggressive and got tired quickly when Rocky taunted him and dodged his punches.

@wonderman227 Maybe not, but he would have stood a much better chance if Mickey was there. I mean wouldn't that mess with your head? Knowing your friend's in trouble and now you have to fight. Rocky was a great fighter and was the one that beat Apollo in the first place, although barely but still. Apollo did help, but I'd say Rocky's strategy of taunting helped a lot more. Clubber is easy to intimidate and he kept wasting his punches trying to knock him out while Rocky blocked and dodged.
@wonderman227 He (Rocky) never took Clubber seriously therefore never trained properly even though Mickey confessed to Rocky's title defences being set-ups. I also think Rocky would have conquered Lang in a rematch using his own style as he went toe to toe with Drago and won and Drago hit harder than Lang. He would have also beaten Lang the first time if he trained properly and if Mickey never took a heart attack. So in hindsight Lang's victory was not that impressive as Rocky was ill prepared.

Clubber may have knocked out Rocky within 2 rounds but Ivan killed Apollo within 2 rounds.
I don't think it made him lack confidence, it just showed the source of his strength.
The 2ND best rocky movie in the rocky series after 4. MR T. and apollo creed made this movie stand out even more along with ole italian stallion. T showed how you can come up from almost nothing in the worst neighborhood and be something in life. A lesson the young kids of chicago are forgetting with all that senseless violence.
This is a unique moment in a ROCKY movie in that it's the only time in the entire series where we see Rocky really get his ass kicked. I mean, in the first film he lost by decision, but he went all 15 rounds and he put up a really good fight. This is the only time when we see Rocky just get slaughtered and lose by KO.

Clubber Lang is one of my favorite characters from all of the Rocky films.
I loved his training montage at the beginning of the film. Angry, hungry, pissed, passionate, dedicated, motivated. He was driven by pure anger and desire, a very dangerous combination.
I hate that Mickey dies, he is my favorite character from all of the Rocky films

It's very interesting to see how different Rocky's opponents are. Apollo is flamboyant and arrogant but he wasn't an asshole and even taught Rocky and became friends with him. Clubber was just an arrogant fast talking asshole, and Ivan was the strong silent type who was scary and deadly too. Rocky might have done better here if he took his training seriously and if Mickey was there with him, since Mickey having trouble with his heart was a major distraction.

@terrain600 I think he would, or at the very least stand a much better chance. He didn't take his training as seriously as he should have and knowing that Mickey was having trouble with his heart really distracted him and left him open to Clubber Lang's powerful punches which he is why Rocky was defeated easily. The style he learned did help but his stratagy worked a lot too. He taunted Clubber. Clubber is too aggressive and got tired quickly when Rocky taunted him and dodged his punches.

@wonderman227 Maybe not, but he would have stood a much better chance if Mickey was there. I mean wouldn't that mess with your head? Knowing your friend's in trouble and now you have to fight. Rocky was a great fighter and was the one that beat Apollo in the first place, although barely but still. Apollo did help, but I'd say Rocky's strategy of taunting helped a lot more. Clubber is easy to intimidate and he kept wasting his punches trying to knock him out while Rocky blocked and dodged.

@wonderman227 He (Rocky) never took Clubber seriously therefore never trained properly even though Mickey confessed to Rocky's title defences being set-ups. I also think Rocky would have conquered Lang in a rematch using his own style as he went toe to toe with Drago and won and Drago hit harder than Lang. He would have also beaten Lang the first time if he trained properly and if Mickey never took a heart attack. So in hindsight Lang's victory was not that impressive as Rocky was ill prepared.

@ichirima Don't preach to me about boxing as I have followed boxing since I was a kid. I am still looking for the part were I said defense wasn't a part of boxing lol. I take it you are a troll. My quickest knockout on my Rocky game is 60 seconds on pro level against Big Yank Ball. I also knocked Creed, Drago and Clubber in 70 seconds. I knocked out Ali, Liston, Lewis, Tua, Holyfield and Frazier out in the first round on pro level on one of my fight night games. I must have the best boxing brain

Well I don't know about you, but he didn't talk too much in the movie. I don't what makes him insecure but whatever. He seemed pretty damn confident to me. Clubber may have knocked out Rocky within 2 rounds but Ivan killed Apollo within 2 rounds.
I don't think it made him lack confidence, it just showed the source of his strength.

The 2ND best rocky movie in the rocky series after 4. MR T. and apollo creed made this movie stand out even more along with ole italian stallion. T showed how you can come up from almost nothing in the worst neighborhood and be something in life. A lesson the young kids of chicago are forgetting with all that senseless violence.

This is a unique moment in a ROCKY movie in that it's the only time in the entire series where we see Rocky really get his ass kicked. I mean, in the first film he lost by decision, but he went all 15 rounds and he put up a really good fight. This is the only time when we see Rocky just get slaughtered and lose by KO.

Clubber Lang is one of my favorite characters from all of the Rocky films.
I loved his training montage at the beginning of the film. Angry, hungry, pissed, passionate, dedicated, motivated. He was driven by pure anger and desire, a very dangerous combination.
I hate that Mickey dies, he is my favorite character from all of the Rocky films
