  • I followed this like you did and it looks like it came out absolutely beautiful !! Omg, thank gosh there was a 1/2 of a cup left so I could eat it, it was so good I almost didnt want to can the rest. After I took them out of the water bath, I noticed little pockets here and there, it looks like air bubbles. What do I do? Should I open them, press out the bubbles, re-sterilize the lids again then boil them over again? I don't want to lose 9 wide mouth pints. 16 cups/6 lbs apples = 9 pints

  • @chivone21 They should be fine. I end up with a few little bubbles too. I think they come from the apples as they are cooking in the canning process. Foods have air in them and as they cook the air is released. Ordinarily that air ends up in the top of the jar but since the pie filling is so thick it can't make it's way up there. The pie filling IS awesome, be sure to try the peach pie filling too.

  • Mam, you sound so nice!!! What a nice video, thanks so much for putting this on. I was wondering, I don't have a blue pot like you have, I have the All American Pressure Canner. I was wondering, if I don't bolt it down, and leave the pressure weight off the vent, can I use this? Will it act as a regular pot? Thanks for any input.

  • @chivone21 I've heard that people use their All Americans that way. Happy canning!

  • I ended up having to buy the clearJel on line. Could not find it in any store in my area.

  • @Allen2045 You're going to love the Clear Jel.

  • @imstillworkin I might make apple turnovers or the small pies. Have you done a video on how to make home made apple turn overs? :-)

  • @Allen2045 I didn't make a video of it but I made turnovers with this pie filling and they turned out great.

  • @imstillworkin I will go insearch of a video on making these. I make pies at work. So I don't want to make any at home. But turnovers sound good or apple crisp or apple anything else. Take care...

  • @Allen2045

I found ClearJel at a website called The Ingredient Store. On sale for $7.95 for a 16 ounce package. That's the cheapest price I found so far. Looking forward to trying the product.

  • @Harvestera I bought mine from a website called Shady Maple Farm Market. It's $3.21 for 1.35 pounds.

  • @imstillworkin Wow that is a good deal....

  • @imstillworkin Oh boy I should have waited for you because that is a excellent price. I ended up paying $7.95 a pound and thought that was really good compared to amazon's of 12.00. I will definatly keep shady maple market on my bookmarks for future use though. Thank you.

  • @Harvestera I bought my ClearJel at Prepared Pantry I think.

  • Thanks for the recipe I'd love to give it a try any idea of the shelf life?

  • @Murolo1020 According to the USDA you should use all home canned goods within one year.

  • I bought a ton of peaches from the amish this summer and canned them like crazy. These are the best peaches I have ever had. In the winter when I crack open a jar I am always reminded why I do what I do :)

  • I went to the farmer's market in Raleigh and got a bushel of apples for about $25. I had them mix it 1/2 golden delicious and 1/2 granny Smiths. The combo was excellent for both the applesauce and for the pie filling. Last year I dehydrated 4 bushels of apples. I don't remember canning any apples. It seems I am canning more this year for some odd reason. If I find good peaches this late in the year I will make the peach pie filling too. I am with you on the clear gel! Wish I had more!

  • I made this a few weeks ago when I got my Clear Jel. It is very good. I've used it to make cobblers so far. My daughter can't get enough. I made 2 batches. I will be going back to Farmers Market to get more apples. I was going to suggest to you do do a video on this recipe as it turned out so well. BTW, also made a ton of applesauce. You are right, my tomato strainer/juicer did a perfect job on the apple sauce. It is the first time I have canned applesauce. Very easy! Thanks!

  • @Hoovesandpaws61 The peach pie filling is excellent too. I love Clear Jel so much I'm considering buying a 25 lb. bag, lol. That strainer does an amazing job and is a real time saver. What kind of apples did you use for the pie filling? I like Granny Smiths but it seems like everything except Granny is on sale these days.

  • that looks really good... tkx :-)

  • Great idea. I have canned apples, but never thought about canning a filling, what a time saver!

  • Thank you! I love the idea of a little pie.:) Dh and I can't eat a whole pie either...well...we probably could...but we shouldn't. LOL!

  • I did apples and pie filling a few weeks ago. I'm interested in trying your recipe. Gonna have to get more apples now. :)

    Thanks for sharing

  • As usual, great video. Very informative! I was just thinking I need to learn how to make an apple pie. Now I'm half way there. Do you have a video on how to make the crust?

  • @BuckeyePrepper Here's the recipe I use: 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp. salt, 2/3 cup shortening, 2 tbsp. butter and 4 tbsp. water. I mix mine by hand with a pastry cutter but here is a good video about making pie crusts - watch?v=rfLcbkh36sc

  • That automatic peeler is awesome!

  • I have some pie tin just a smidge smaller than what you have. I make pot pies a couple times a year in them, and it's looking like i will be using them for apple pie as well! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Do i have to take rings off the jars, or can I leave them on? Thank you for the great video's.

  • @cpranga9488 They say you need to remove the rings and wash the rims because food residue can be there which could cause the rings to rust. Then if you want to you could put the rings back on. I leave the rings off because I live in a very humid area and if the rings rust they can fuse to the lids and make it very difficult to get off. In my experience, the rings rust easily but the lids don't.

  • ¡Great!

  • @greatwf That pie will fit in my purse, lol.

  • Wonderful video!

  • That is one beautiful pie. Thanks for sharing your recipe with us. Now I want some apple pie.

  • Excellent!

I did a cartoon double take when you grabbed that 1st pie. LOL

    Cute size. I love it.

  • @DirkChesterfieldEsq The little pies are great.

  • hi i'mstillworkin, can i set up a tent outside your kitchen door?

  • @richard1948benz Sure, but I'll warn you, a lot of bloopers get tossed out that door to the chickens, lol.

  • Those look awesome. LOL, an apple pot pie with ice cream, sweeeeet ! ;-)

  • I bake apple pie also but without the cinnamon, like the full apple taste. Dont know how to make pie crust so i buy the store bought kind for 99c/each.

  • @jasonmushersee Pie crusts are easy to make. You can make a big batch, divide it into portions you would need and freeze for rolling out later. I wish I had your fruit trees!

  • Definitely going to try this! Thanks!

  • Love this recipe I want to do this so bad. And now I have to have those little pie pans ! Where did you get them? You are so right I have to have ! Thank you for the shout out. Another great video.

  • @255sage I bought those little pans at Walmart a couple of years ago. They probably still sell them. If not, you can probably buy the disposable aluminum types. Those pies are so you.

  • Thank you. And your right, those little pies are all about me.

  • You making me hungry again.

  • Sure it helps. Thanks

  • Nice work on your video and thanks for sharing, now i want apple pie just the right size.

  • Why did you can it, instead of making the filling as you need it?

  • @onyisraw2009 Apples are on sale now and it's convenient to just open a jar rather than make it as needed. This is actually the lazy way out, lol.
