  • Is there anyone ... anyone??? ... who can play like this today??

  • Butch was the master of dynamics with the band and how to choke those cymbals and how to properly lay down the last beat and cut-off. All very exciting.

  • Thanks!!!! The great Basie band live, swiging hard on good old song & arragement of Frank Foster.

  • SHINEY STOCKINGS it makes you feel good dont it THE BASIE BAND WOW

  • Thanks for your clip - maby the best Basieorchestra ever, I saw them i Stockholm 1978 1979, lovely /Leif

  • That smile at 0:23 says it all, "Basie"

  • Great! I could watch this stuff all day. What dynamics!

  • beautiful....damn....

  • Butch Miles!!!!!!!

  • On trumpet, second baseman Joe Morgan!

  • No one finer to "kick the band" than Butch Miles. Note the choke cymbals and how you can swing by playing quietly.

    Butch is still the best!

  • I have seen that tour and the concert is still on my mind. How often in a lifetime you get to see a man like Basie in a concert? Even now and then the back hurts I would not like to be born a year later as I had the chance to see giants like Basie, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Ella Fitzgerald, Cootie Williams, Roy Eldridge, Lionel Hampton LIVE. Thank you for the great video, realy brings back memories.

  • @AgamemnonPadar I got to see Basie in his home town, Red Bank, NJ in the mid-eighties. He was in a wheelchair at the piano. The few notes he hit were in the perfect places as usual...

  • YES!!!!!! Thank you
