The damage to the track meant the only way in and out of Newcastle to London was via the down fast line. The slow lines, up fast and junction leading to the high level bridge where all damaged.
there was a set of defective points on the gateshead side of the high level bridge stopping any movements . weight restrictions cab be removed in an emergency .
@pjdscott Thats the news for you. Hype things up so they sound worse than they are. Putting "Carriages" instead of "Hoppers" on the bulitin probably doubled thier viewing figures.

Great footage Ian- as good as, if not better, than Tyne-Tees news this evening. The reporter referred to the derailled "carriages". Ho hum.
Did anything leave the station via the High level and proceed south?

The High level has a weight restriction on it. GNER stock can't use it.
