  • how did you get a job at Y&R when Granger didn't invite you for an interview?

  • Based on that idea, I proposed to my girlfriend. We're married since september 2011.

  • i want to get work in google but i dont know how

  • very smart idea. they couldn't loose you.

  • Yes, of course now that you've told us all about it, everyone's going to be doing it, and now it will cost a whole lot more... thanks a lot

  • Going to do one on YOU and see if you will hire me as your assistant.

  • @nyhtml what kind of web development do you do?

  • it cost only $6 ...and shit of a lot of time, waiting for those dudes to google themselves and giving you a call))

  • If the Directors were smart, they wouldn't be wasting their time Googling themselves. Instead they could set up a Google Alert that will email them (or their subordinates) everyday (or every week) with links to new websites mentioning their name...

Which means they wouldn't see the Ads.

  • Nice - in the early 90s I sent faxes of letters to all the directors of the MFA programs at schools I had sent applications to, who had not replied back. I heard back from every one of them. Finding a way to cut through the communications clutter is critical.

  • @epicard4 Did you send a fax of the application? Or a letter sort of reminding them to check your application?

  • guys u googled yourself , ADMIT IT!

  • YOU ARE GENIUS!!!

  • get a patent on it!!!

  • Great piece of viral marketing there - but for who..? :-D

  • This is brillliant. What I'm wondering is, does QS factor at all? Unless you mentioned these names on your site somewhere, I don't see how it could be relevant to the search.

    Yes, I'm a ppc noob.

  • Hello,

I'm just wondering how did you know that exactly these creative directors would Google themselves? You are so insightful and intuitive....

  • @Exultedagain Ever heard of media monitoring? Searching on various media platforms to see if you received any publicity or positive/negative coverage from the media concerning your organisation, it's part of the PR executive's job.

  • @YuXuanify Yeah, I've heard and experienced by myself when some representatives of the companies paid attention to my tweets. Still, this experiment amazes me and it's so insightful...

  • @Exultedagain Ego maniacs

  • Great!! Congratulations...

  • You sir, are a genius. :)

  • 15+1 people cannot spell GENIUS correctly and will not be getting a job with google.

  • Wow, brilliant idea, well done! And congratulations on your job!

  • Wait a minute. You created ads for David Droga, Tony Granger, Gerry Graf, Ian Reichenthal, and Scott Vitrone. You only got an interview with four and a job offer from Ian Reichenthal and Scott Vitrone. But last I recall, Tony Granger is Y&R's Global Chairman. How did that happen?

  • yer so shmart!!

  • Could you imagine if you googled your own name and an ad said, "YOUR FIRED, for googling your own name during work time".

  • @alexlogic *shrug* I wouldn't want to work for a boss that didn't know the difference between "your" and "you're" anyway.

  • @alexlogic Yeah, future is magic...

  • 53 people are jealous because they have no creativity. ;-)

  • Did any one of them hire you ?

    So smart guy

  • Great idea :) thinking outside the box is your speciality :)

  • I would soooo give you 5k if you can help me find an idea to get into the Big4 Accounting (or BDO)!! But anyway, brilliant brilliant.

  • Very amazing. This is what it truly takes. Get clear, know what you want, decide it's GOING TO HAPPEN, create a plan to make it real, and fire away until you achieve. The world looks up to this, and so do I.

  • You are a genius! Hope I come up with something this creative to get me into the media marketing game ha

  • oooh let's face it: he got lucky.

  • Wait a second! So why would these individuals have thought about googling themselves right at the time you ran your Google ad?? Something is not "clicking" here. And you are not being totally forthcoming about this.

  • @cutis1000

They probably google themselves every now and then. It's called ego. Perhaps they also want to catch up with news and rumours about themselves.

  • Great approach.

btw - hiring me is fun, too :P

  • Inspirational

  • AMAZING!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!

  • damn fine work there, old son...

enjoy your damn nice new job.

    and damn your genius!

    damn you!

  • Ahhh, the wonders of online advertising!

  • What is this music ?

  • nice! good idea!

  • Genius! :D

  • I just tried creating this in adwords and it disallowed because the word "googling" is trademarked. How did you get around that?

  • @cafevideo If you look closely, you'll see that I misspelled the word "Goooogling."

  • I just tried this and the google ad did not take it because the word "googling" is trademarked. Are you faking this or or did they recently add googling as a trademarked word?

  • That is so clever.

I have shared this with anyone I know is looking for a job. It will help them immensely. Thank you for sharing your awesome idea with the rest if us !!!

  • @sandrosalsi

And how will that help them? Anybody that simply copies that deserves a click without interview IMO.

    Effective, yes

    Original, no

But, kudos for having it work for you. Y&R has a great rep.

  • Incredible idea!! very well done, and if what you're saying is truth, you deserve to work with the very best of NYC

  • How would it work, that only the guys googling themselves saw the ad? And not anybody googling them?

  • Bullshit. You got lucky... if this is even true.

  • @TheGiantNoodle Here here

  • Awesome! I wonder if that works for other industries too. Googling for yourself is something most of us do, just no one found a way to use it before.

  • "firstname lastname"

  • Genius : ) Can't wait to see your work.

  • How long did it take to pay off.

  • Now that's out of the box thinking.

  • nice

  • I realize NYC creative directors are egotistical and likely googling themselves, therefore I'm curious to know how long before Alec placed the ads did he get contacted. i'm assuming he reached out in no other way to these folks to get them to google themselves? Yes, these are the details I wonder about...

  • @tjosmith couple of months

  • @alecbrownstein Impressive work! Did you reach out to them in any other way or was it solely by this Google AdWords campaign? No e-mails?

  • Here's another way to get a job in advertising.

    Just youtube: ADVERTISING IS CALLING

  • now this is creative thinking! Best regards

  • Congrats! Clever idea... :)

  • What a sofb

  • I'm glad I watched this in HD.

  • I'm glad I watched this in HD.

    yeah!

  • anyone notice he spelled "gooogling" wrong?

  • nice idea! good work! :-)

  • That's freaking brilliant. I'm about to teach an online marketing class in mid-June. May I play this video to the class to illustrate my point about keywords?

  • @WizardofeBooks sure

  • @alecbrownstein Thanks very much!

  • you're my hero. congrats on the new job!

  • @jsilman83 thank you

  • I guess this works only if you know the guy is an egomaniac.

  • Awesome idea, congrads!

  • Well played sir

  • You, sir, are clever and awesome :D

  • legend!

  • You gotta be kidding!

  • amazing

  • Brilliant. Freakin' brilliant.

  • yes cause everyone googles their own name on a daily basis

i'm gona put the names of the top 10 agency execs on a bit of paper and put it in a bottle and throw it in the ocean now...

besides, shouldn't he be working now and not telling the people who hired him how amazing he was for getting their attention.

  • @rupertshean I google my name on a daily basis, but that's just to see if I finally made it to the FBI's top 10.

  • Well, I'd do that, but it's no longer creative if I do it.

  • @stfudonnie It may not be creative, but it would be industrious.

  • freaking ingenius idea... man can ppl think outside the box!

  • This is not new, just a copycat from Mizbala agency

  • Simple and effective. Great!

  • But wait lol why were they googling themselves? Do they do this on a daily basis? I mean I did it once a few years ago but definitely not an every day kind of thing.

  • @llirra What the fuck else would you do if you were wiping your ass with 100 dollar bills?

  • @Mage017 Lol good point
