Interestingly enough while I was attending a ghost hunt event at the Shanley Hotel in Napanoch, NY, we were investigating a room with a K2 Meter.
Our tour guide and investigator used her radio when she responded to a call. One of our team members saw the K2 Meter's lights blink and everyone thought it was a spirit.
But I immediately asked them to check if it was from the radio. It was the frequency from the radio that the K2 Meter detected, so I debunked that occurrence thanks to this video.
Brilliant information its a great bit of education for us at USI paranormal where we use the K2 on all our investigations best to be used in a sterile environment where nothing will interfere with the readings we too tell our team to switch off their mobile (Cell) phones at all times. Loving the tutorials and thank you for your helpful information...
Good informative vid, as per usual, for those of us who don't know much about these K2's, only thing I don't understand about the false reading thing at the end is why only one of them went off? How come they both didn't pick up the radio frequency?
Good video. I have almost stopped using any type of EMF meter because of this unless the meter is still. Even a sweep for hotspots isnt accurate, now that every phone is cordless and everyone has a cell. I do like the K2 set next to a recording device that is in a camera view. I can then time stamp the video to check a little harder for EVPs in that time frame
Hey Mike. Thanks for showing the good folks at home that the K2 can also be set off by magnets. There are a lot of investigators that are not aware of that. The K2 takes it readings in milligauss and gauss is a measurement of magnetism.
they make K2 meters now that the push switch on top stays on all the time like if you push it down once it will stay on and if you push it again it will turn it off I just thought I would add that for some of the people that dont know that might be interested in getting one
I must have a newer KII. Mine has an on/off button on the front. Also, the readings for the home phone and the walkie were taken right next to the KII. Isn't it suppose to pick up that since it is looking for EMF's. Most electronics are gonna put off some sort of EMF, especially when held right next to the KII. I was curious if it picked up a reading when the phone and walkie were a few feet away.
The newer modified ones have an on off button. In the video they were close together so you could see them better. We have set them off from ten foot away with our walkies. We had a situation where an investigator accidentally left their phone on and they received a text message and set of the K2 from at least 20 ft. away. We have investigated places where we had bad cell phone reception and as the phone searches for signal we have set it off even further away than that.
Great upload and good info. I would also recommend that you keep the KII absolutely still (ie place it down and don't carry it around). We also go one step further and do a 1 hour lock off while everyone is out of the building to get a base line reading with a mini DV camera focused on the KII. This way we can make sure we can take into account any ambient building "noise" when reviewing evidence.
hi mike...i believe a good sweep using any EMF detector at the beginning an investigation to find hot spots, will more aptly reduce the amount of false- positives. good of you to post this for those who weren't aware. keep up the good work! :o)
Good job mike as always.. Im always letting my team know the very same facts.. no cell phones on cases and becareful when comunicating with each other via two ways to mark down that or take note when you get a reading it was your two way.. and always find the source where the reading came from before assuming its paranormal and its always better to have more than one piece of device when investigating for back up...
thanx for the info ...come across the same probs myself ..we dont have cell phones on and dont use radios .. we use the k2 meter and have communicated with energys on lots of occasions Its all about experimenting and finding what works ..thanxs again
You forgot to mention it can also open garage doors, it be used as a nice addition for carolers who can have portable twinkling lights, and my favorite, detecting the b.s. on the ghost shows. good review.
As you know, there are folks who seem to believe the Kll is the ultimate instrument in paranormal research. I happen to think it is nearly useless because of the potential for false positives. The Mel Meter is a far better choice, but meters of any kind should only be thought of a tool to support other evidence.
Thanks. I have never used the ovilus, but to my understanding it has a bank of allophones built in and EMF is used to trigger these sounds to form words. Kind of like evp maker. Like the ghost box its experimental, but I dont see any reason not to experiment with it. You never know till you try. hope this helps.
Most investigators already know this if they use radios, phones, etc in the field and have been doing this for awhile. Great info for the beginners! Also as in TV shows, they use wireless mics on the investigators when filming. That as well interferes with the KII meters!!!
great info thanks we always turn off all cell phones during investigations and we dont use radios because we use the kII quite often and we try to keep the false positives to a minimum
Great information. We have used our K-2 meter on many investigations and are always very careful to do a preliminary sweep of the area first. It helps us know if it's power lines etc. Thank you for the video. Eddie
Nice vid! Should add our ever present video cameras can cause false positive, I have registered 9mg passing cams too closely. If filmig the K2 or any emf meter activation, zooming from 4-5 feet away will rule out FP by the cam. K2 and other single axis meters are also subject to false positive by power line noise. Even locations with no power, but nearby power lines can trip them.
You know, never checked the spike from activating the zoom, but I actually meant by keeping the cam further away and using the zoom, you can try to avoid spiking the meter.
Its a good way to identify EMF leaks in the dark. Thats about it. It seems to me that TAPS has convinced everyone that they need a KII meter to hunt ghosts and now everybody and ther grandmother has one. Everyone should know what they are really getting with this $60+ piece of gear.
i seen another vid on utube months ago about this mike...and he did the same thing with the walkie talkie....so really what value dose it have during an investigation , i mean is it worth to use it ..sounds like it picks up any frenquencys...thats if like u said if u dont have another emf device....

@tviscante The other one is just an EMF meter. It doesn't pick on RF.
