  • If somebody has the music written on paper (clarinet) it would be great,

couse this is a espectacular concert.

  • Amazing! The best, most original and dificult interpretation I ever heard! Great great clarinetist and musician !!

  • THIS DUDE PUTS ME TO SHAME!!!!!!!!

    i have chill bumps :/

  • why all the smearing??

  • A C clarinet wouldn't have hit the low D at 3:18

  • The Clarinet is in C.

  • the father of the clarinet !

  • So sexy

  • i think 10 violinists just realized he plays it better than they do

  • Some of the highest notes in this piece are, 'technically' speaking, way beyond the recognised range for the clarinet which extends from E below middle C, to C three octaves above middle C. They are therefore bound to sound a little squeeky. Sure there were some technical mistakes but it is still quite an extraordinary performance.

  • muito bom..

  • alucinante

  • P0\/\/3R|-|0US3!

  • he did at least as well as many violin players do with this piece if i do say so myself.

    bravo!

  • 8 people missed the "flag as inappropriate" button because this is performance just too bad ass!

  • oh my god, goosebumps in part 1 and double goosebumps in part 2 :D

    Angelic

  • the original is impressive enough and challenging enough for any violinist, but he has taken it a step further pushing the limits of contemporary clarinet technique in order to play every note that was written for the soloist, including the ones in chords. Truly our century's Anton Stadler.

  • HOLY kaakaa... i had no idea that satan could play the clarinet....seriously.. this guy is a hoot......ive never hear a real clarinet virtuoso before but now i have..... he goes over the top some but wtf.... its exciting , musical and entertaining... i bet rossini just wet himself.....

  • SEMPLICEMENTE ........... FANTASTICO - FANTASTICO - FANTASTICO!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

  • OMFGWTFLOL! WHAAAAAA!?!?

  • He was jumping octaves - not 'squeaking'. He even made this clarinet sound like a flute - no small undertaking. He's a clarinet virtuoso. This performance gets an A++++ and then some. Great job!!!

  • 100!!!

  • incredibbbbbbbileeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooooo

  • Wowwww I loved this performance, in the many years of playing I must admit that was spectacular

  • 5:31 O_O OH MY GOOOOOD

  • UNO DEI MIGLIORI CLARINETTISTI AL MONDO SE NN IL MIGLIORE!

  • No ma è da non crederci!!! E' il migliore, mamma mia... Bravo bravo..

  • 5:34 O_O

  • I never had seen and heard before. Amazing!!!

  • is there sheet music for this?

i wish i had half of this guy's control in the upper register...so jealous

  • This video is great

  • this is crazy! i can only imagine the hours of practice... great job!!

  • that ending is intense

  • you all have to know there are many style of clarinet playing. so just listen.

  • godDAMN.

  • This guy is SICK!!!

    He makes me sick!!!

    Excelent player!!!=P

  • OMG!!! Excellent

  • this guy is such a badass

    5:31 :-]

  • I am not keen on your sound, but you have and outstanding technique.

  • i'm pretty sure he likes his sound.... i think he was trying to make it sound different and un-clarinetish. i'd say it's a nice effect. because you can't get so high on the high register without good embouchure.

    :O/

  • AMAZING! :D

  • Technically, it is true that this is not flawless, and that is why I want to hear Bekavac's Carmen again and see how this variation will change... maybe I am wishing to hear Horowitz on Clarinet...?

Bekavac's variation is of much bravura, and to the point that I think is highly experimental. As such, I expect him to keep experimenting. I think Bekavac's "parlor tricks" are just the start of a whole study in post-altissimo acrobatics for clarinets, and this I eagerly await.

  • amazing!

  • holy dang that is a huge theater

  • IF YOU THINK THIS IS Easy to play then do it urself and then make some comments!!!

Veramente eccezionale. bravssimo.

  • Mate and Eddie Daniels are some of the best clarinetists and theres no denying that.

  • Wow! This is amazing!

  • Fantastico!!!!!.....Congratulazioni!!!

  • great / freedom of playing , free spirit / to much "deja vu" in classical music / bravo Mate ...go for it !

  • questo è proprio pazzo!!!!gooooooood.....very very goooood!!!

  • the audio of this video has been tampered with. i was at this concert and he made absolutely no mistakes. whoever did this is an IDIOT !!

  • Thank's you miksostft

  • No, this is clarinet in B-flat

  • @miksostft - I may be wrong but I think the instrument he is using is actually a clarinet in C - and not the usual B flat. It is slightly shorter than the B flat and would sound a tone higher than the B flat. Clarinets have been made in almost every key but the B flat and A have now come to be the norm. I have often pondered transcribing some Pagannini Caprices for clarinet - no need to transpose them if using a C instrument.

  • @MrLiqouricestick you're mistaken :)

  • @MrLiqouricestick - i'm pretty sure it's a B flat clarinet judging by the fingering and the notes i'm hearing

  • @miksostft I stand corrected then but assume that you must know Mate Bekavac personally as there would be know way of telling otherwise.

  • @miksostft no, the clarinet is in C.

  • @osh0011 No, it's in Bb.

  • @ChristianOrtega123 Nvm. I was distracted by his big body making the clarinet look smaller.i just pulled my clarinet out and played it by ear and it is, in fact in Bb because I just played on my Bb and he uses the same fingerings. sorry for the disagreement. lol.

  • @osh0011 It's fine :P Thanks for being a clarinet player I guess haha.

  • But this is a clarinet in A?

  • 6 mitico....complimenti...!!!!!!!

  • ...wow...

  • This is a clarinet in La?

  • where can i find the partiture of this music?

    thanks in advance

  • Ciao!

    1) P. de Sarasate : Carmen concert Fantasy op.25 for violin.

il finale è invece è preso da

    2) F. Borne : Fantasia brillante su Carmen for flute.

Bravo!!!!

  • esye tio s algo impresionanteee!!!!!

  • Impresionante!!!

  • Espectacular,sin palabras me quedo

  • fantasy

  • this improvising?

  • nope

  • amazing playing in the allegro moderato......

  • how high are the notes at 0:51??

  • not high as 2:50, d#4,out of standard clarinet range.

  • you just have to bite gently on the reed until you get a soft squeek , altissimo ?

    bye

  • the 1st, 3rd, and 4th are my faves

  • FREAKING BEAST!!!

I love this arrangement. Amazing work.

  • continuo a afirmar...excelente clarinetista...

  • download it from youtube directly

  • i really like 5:53 to 6:00

  • He's getting tired in this second half. He squeaked bluntly once and subtly at least thrice. But no wonder... this is such a strenuous (and beautiful) music to play....

  • he could apply for an orchestra position as a piccolo flautist... with his clarinet

  • Nice.

  • but are you sure, that you can play that kind of pieces with german clarinet technique?

  • Hi,

Is there someone who can give me a way to contact Mate Bekavcs please ?

I really want to work on this piece, it looks very interressant !

    D.T

  • martin frost is better then mate bekavac

  • Any specific reason?

  • sera k dava para me enviares as partituras desta peça?...

  • Yeah! horray buffet Festival clarinets!

  • are you impling he sounds like crap cuz if you are you must be an ameture idiot!!

  • There was comment that i replied,but it's deleted,some guy was writing sh*t about Mate...Mate is great.

  • That was insane!

  • His clarinet SPEAKS not sqeeks!!

  • Ok. This piece was written for violin. Violins are high, stringy, and squeaky. So if he's trying to simulate something that is squeaky, would it not be in character to sound that way? AND, do you realize that there is not a single piece of music in front of him? Sorry, but holy buckets. Step away from the comment box and enjoy how amazingly awesome this is.

  • Mate Bekavac eres un buenisimo clarinetista, de los mejores que he oido yo toco el clarinete y me he quedado contigo con la boca abierta,

  • i think he did a marvelous job, i am no expert but i can tell you that as an audience i find this piece on a clarinet highly appealing. i play the clarinet and if i had an ounce of his talent i would be forever grateful. this might not be the best suited piece for a clarinet, because as most of you said it was originally written for a violin, but that doesn't make it a terrible piece by any means. he made a mistake or two, so what??? it happens to everybody, even the most talented musicians.

  • vibrato horrivel

  • I don't really like that style of music, I am more of traditional playing but I have to admit that it was very impressive. I don't know why people are making such a big deal about some squeaks. It's a very difficult piece of music, trying to make a clarinet sound with the same range and ability of a violin is never going to happen but he just made a very good try.

  • there are obviously reasons why players perform pieces originally meant for other instruments - to get a better feel of the other instrument and in the process also understand your own instrument better. criticising a few squeaks is just dumb, i mean are you stupid? squeaking is not even a part of lack of technique -.- some peole think so highly of themselves, are you a better clarinet player than him? obviously you are not.

  • Mate said before the concert that this is an experiment. I think it was never meant to be perfect or witohut mistake. He was experimenting the clarinet in front of public with extremely hard piece. I was on that concert and it was just phenomenal feeling, nearly as god as there on youtube video. Mate said before the concert a lot of interesting things about this performance wich I think it would answer all your questions you´ve asked here. Maybe you should hear what he said...

  • Jaw hits floor dang! :D This is once again amazing - Oh FYI Squeaks can happen when the reed is to dry. If you paid attention he was messing with it toward the beginning. It probally has dried out a little bit - One squeak get over it. This is amazing!

  • i like the part that starts at 3:20

  • bravo !!! just impressionant !

  • Yea, this guy is one of the best I have ever heard. Is there any way I can get the music to this and make an attempt to learn it?

  • tour technique is very nice!!!

    one of vitouso clarinet player!!!

    bravoooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I honestly can't understand how you can make such a big deal over a stupid squeak. Post a video of you playing this live in response to this one and let's see how you fair buddy. There's no way it would even be close to this guy so back off.

  • you have id or email y want to took with you!I'am clarinetist from ROmania

  • Hello Crazychicken, performance is in Ljubljana, Slovenia

  • Does anyone one where the performance is?

  • Mate Bekavac je najbolji i najkompletniji klarinetista na svetu! Covek je genije! Pokazao je maximum na instrumentu! Svako moze da prica sta hoce, on jedinstven! Doveo je klarinet do perfekcije!

  • Firstly: Everyone who says that Sabine Mayer, Leister and others are better than Mate... I´m toooooootally sure you´ve never heard him playing L.I.V.E. The same for those who says that he´s not playing musically.

Secondly: About overdosed technique in this piece. Why do you think he have done that...beacuse he has such a brilliant technique that he can experiment in every way he wants. If there wuldn´t have been such inovators like him, we would be proabaly still playing like 100 years ago.

  • thats amazing

    Muchas gracias.

    atentamente:

    ESTUDIANTES DE CLARINETE DE SURAMERICA.

MENTIRAS.................

  • Mate had concert in Novi Sad(Serbia)2006,2008 and it was the best performance ever!!!He brought clarinet plaing technic from perfect to impossible. Perfect ligature, staccato, breath control, music stile....At concert he played circular breathing on c4?!? And that is 1 small thing from his arsenal.Brilliant improvisation also.He is pushing technical and sound limit even further, making a new way of playng. PURE PERFECTION!

If anyone like to share comment's about mate feel free to contact...

  • one squeak and it is not good?

I would love to hear all of you live........

    And better than this.....

  • And you will agree, squeak is small thing comparing to all other more important details.....

  • Yes,that is true......Mate also have sile and he's not 'young generation' because in concerts I'w been he played Bach,Mozart, penderecki, and Kupferman moonflowers baby and it was with 'full stile' each piece. I agree, technique is over used in clarinet performing. Music is much more important.......When I get those records I'll contact you and send it..........

  • was he circular breathing...ON TOP OF IT??! Damn.

  • Super !!

  • Wow.

  • Tonal Color.

  • ass.

  • What certain instrument are you referring to?

  • the violin, of course.

  • Dear dodddd29383,

if You have ever heard a real clarinettist, you would know that a squeak is nothing compared to one's perfect performance of the piece which is marvelous by itself. This is the most difficult piece for clarinet ever. He brought such an open-minded approach to the piece, which propelled his musicianship to a whole another level.

  • dodddd29383,

squeaks are for students? have you ever been to a live performance? i heard david shifrin squeak in a performance of the poulenc sonata, but i guess he isn't a "pro" like you. your comparison of this guy to a student for a few minor errors is like saying that roger federer is an amateur at tennis for double-faulting in a match.

  • "Don't you realize that a squeak is in itself very immature, indicating that your embouchure, breath, and pretty much the basics of clarinet are missing?"

So, you've never squeaked in a performance? You are making yourself look like a total fool. He's greater than you will ever be and he's doing amazing things. A few squeaks don't matter here.

I'd rather here his exciting performance which puts a twist on the standard than someone who plays a very old piece that's been heard many times.
