I think that Mrs. Keaton looked really nice in pants! She has already worn two lovely pairs in this segment. On top of this, her blond hair is really my cup of tea!
I grew up on this show during my grade school and middle school years. It's sad how pathetic TV has become. TV shows like this could still make it, but stupid TV execs. don't believe that a wholesome, family show would make it without constant sex and simple-minded laugh real jokes. I'm glad that this show didn't go into the 90s cause it truly belonged in the 80s.
I don't have siblings, but I'd be infuriated too if a family member messed up my chances for getting into a prestigious university. After all, Princeton is one of the most prestigous schools in the world and Alex had the credentials for that school.
its funny because i really see this as a real family with all its members.. i genuinely feel that this could be a real family.. and i guess thats the biggest compliment you can give actors..that you believe in the created image that they act out.
I agree, the Keatons felt like a real family especially with Uncle Ned (Tom Hanks). The only other tv family that seemed genuine was the Seavers from Growing Pains.
cousin kenneth, about 5 yrs later plays this CREEPY kid in a little known movie called River's Edge with Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper... great flick if any of you can find it, kind of a diamond in the rough! (:
Michael J. Fox has great comedic timing! It never translated as well to the big screen, but this guy was great on sitcoms, i.e. Family Ties and Spin City.
they were smart to focus on alex instead of the parents. man, he's hilarious! ah...i wish they had good shows nowadays! ones with drama but no stupidity...
Thanks for posting this episode. Family Ties is before my time, and I dunno about the US but they don't show FT in the UK now so never had a chance to watch it. Love MJF :D
Justine Bateman was so hot! Agree. Of course she`s older now, but do her hair and makeup and she`d still remind us of the old (or is that young?) Mallory I believe.
I can not belive how ignorant some ppl are these days, to question why there are no ipods or xbox or myspace in this episode is unbelivable. It's like this is the only thing this generation knows, ask them where the USA is on the map and they draw a blank.
Yeah, i know...it's just that i'm of the younger generation..never had myspace, texting, an ipod, etc & am still being put in that catagory of what ruslanagr described by my teachers and other older peers. But mostly u guys r right...most young fellas r way too hooked on this stuff.

I thought this show was newer than it was. Come to find out, it was filmed in the 80's. That would explain why nobody even mentioned myspace, or XM radio, or ipods or any of the modern things. They should go back and digitally put these things in this show to make it look like it was made in the 21st century.
This is such a sweet episode. I'm from the newer generation and mainly know MJF from Spin City. However, I recently saw Back to the Future and had no idea how cute he was when he was young! Then I heard he was on Family Ties so looked it up. Thanks...please post more.
why is Jeff so "outgoing"? he is usually so shy, he is supposed 2 be!

M J Fox sporting the skinny tie 25 years before they were popular. Teen Wolf look is coming back too.

@pulpsatire The skinny tie was also in style in the late 80s. Just look at 80s music videos
