@Stormchayser There is a difference between an 'at liberty demonstration/act' and simply 'at liberty'. Stallions are generally shown at liberty (such as this one was) in order to show their movement, beauty, etc. If you want to see an at liberty act, put tommy turvey in the search bar and check out his performance (hes' awesome).
@Stormchayser i dont know about the big horse breeds but with minis you have to make them run and show off their movement, most do have to be chased with whips.
Lovely Stallion but his "Liberty Routine" did not do him justice. Too much running and not enough trot and... snort and blow. He should be allowed to show off his big moving trot (if he has it) as well as the natural collection that the Andalusian breed is known for. He was not allowed to show off his stallion pride, snort & blow. Frankly, he looked bored and his performance was dull. Maybe he was having an off day.
I don't think he really minds all this, but I don't really see him "working the crowd" either. He looks like, "Oh brother, here we go again, I get chased around for awhile...." haha. He sure is gorgeous. Seems like a real nice horse, very gentle and eager to please.
I see Santiago every year at the Illinois Horse Fair, and he is the MOST beautiful horse I have ever seen!!! He is the main reason that I go!! If only I could ride you, Santiago...=)
hes sooooooooooooo beautiful hes ssssoooooooo good at liberty!!!!!1 we might breed to him my girl's sire is cytosk if any of you guys know him:))!!!!!!!!
He is a gorgeous horse but I see no "training' in this. All they did was chase him around the arena and have him bow at the end. No offense to those that think he is the next coming in horsedom. JMO.
@plottluvr07 there isnt training in this, that is the point. the stallions job is simply to run around and look magnificent. it is a liberty class after all, not a liberty act, which is probably what you are confusing it with.
Some trainers use voice cues, some use body language, others use whips as aids to cue the horse...some trainers use a combination of all the above. I guess you just have to take my word on it that this horse is not afraid of his handlers or the whip. I've been following him for years now. If you see him perform in person you'll see he is calm, pampered, well adjusted and loved.
If you want to talk about abuse go check out Tennessee Walking Horse owners who still "sore" their horses.
I AM Santiago's BIGGEST FAN! It's so amazing to see horses who actually work the crowd. He KNOWS he's gorgeous.
And to those who are against whips...you have to understand that the horse is not "whipped" just because the trainer has a whip. They are used strictly for cues. It's an extension of one's arm. I've seen horses that have been whipped and they melt down when they even see one. Santiago is not afraid of that whip. He is simply taking his cues from it.
Oh dear I saw this exact run in person and it was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. The video does not do this beautiful boy justice :) Wish I could afford a breeding with my mare!
sorry i find this video SICK! it is not cool or neat to see people let a pretty horse go in a ring and then chase it around with whips cause people think it is cool to see him gallop . i find it creepy.
I met Santiago at the IALHA show at Will Rogers Colliseum in Ft. Worth, TX. One word sums him up... BREATH-TAKING! Gorgeous conformation, terrific movement, and AMAZING personality and disposition. I'd LOVE to eventually be able to afford one of his foals! Santi is my absolute dream horse!
Santiago and Fandango will be at the Equine Affaire in Columbus,OH April 10-13 and the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison, WI April 18-20, We can't wait to see all their fans there!!!

I saw this horse at Midwest Horse Fair in 2007. His handler had him outside and I got to pet him. He is not only handsome, but well mannered too.

@plottluvr07 it's a Liberty showing... Not a dressage show or anything like that. ;)
