  • I run a mile in 3:10

  • Fuck! 4:14 first mile, then 8:29 at the second mile or 3200!!! shitt, and this is a 10K race!!!. And the 2 mile race, Lagat won the race with 8:12. Dude, Bekele is just phenon!!! I think Bekele would have gone under the 8:00 if he would have run the 2 mile race... Damm it.

  • It's quite pointless to compare times between two races. As you get closer to 4 minute miles, and the upper limits of human ability, a few seconds mean a BIG difference. Bekele is probably capable of going under 8 minutes on a perfect day, as his 7:25 3000M PR indicates, but an 8:29 2-mile split isn't remotely close to an 8:12. The 17 seconds are deceptive. He's still the ultimate bad ass on the track though :)

  • Pointless? Why in the world would it be pointless to compare? I have all the right to do so geezz. Lagat is an awesome athlete too no question. Have you run before a 2 mile race, or any distance track race before dude? I have in high school and college at UC Irvine and believe at that distance 17 seconds is close, especially at the speed these athletes are running. Now if we are talking about one mile at 4 minutes or under then for these athletes 17 seconds makes a difference.Butina4milesrace?

  • Actually, I was a pretty solid miler and 2 miler in high school, turning in times of 4:36 and 9:58 my senior year. However, the 2 mile and 10K are completely different races, to the point where runners rarely ever compete in both of them over the same career. That was my point of saying that comparisons like that were pointless. All I was saying is that 8:29 for 2 miles is VERY different from 8:12. There are many people who can run the former time, few who can do the latter.

  • they're only 2 men capable of going under 8min in the 2miles and they're daniel komen and hicham el guerrouj...bekele can't sorry

  • Bekele would easily go under 8 minutes for two mile and i think he would smash the world record...i believe that bekele could hold 60 sec laps and finish with a last lap of 56....he has the ability to run extremely quick at the end of a race no matter how quick he is...yeh definetly 7.56 for bekele

  • Nobody 'easily' goes under 8 minutes for two miles. Morceli, El Guerrouj, Gebrselassie, Kiptanui etc couldn't do it so I don't think Bekele would 'easily' do it.

TBH if he was going to break it he should have done it back in 04-05 when he had the speed. Now is the time for him to think about taking down Wanjiru's half marathon mark and doubling up 10k and marathon for 2012. Chasing Komen's feat's in 1997 would be fruitless and impossible for Bekele now.

  • 7:25, then he would have 35 seconds to do 218 m, that's a 64 400m pace, which is a fast jog for that guy. I think he could have broken 8 on that day, knowing the way he finishes.

  • My hero!!!!!!!!!
