@Lech942 my favorite EP from the 1980s. it's actually the first i heard of them. i listened to this on my cousin's stereo with the headphones so loud my mother heard from downstairs...headphones, mind you. from downstairs...listened to it endlessly that vacation.
I love U2. They have conquered every decade. From the 80s 90s and the 2000s. They have never had a fall out. Yeah they might take up to 4.5 years to make a record but when they do there like a new band. Every album is so different from the last one. New Bands today cant get away with that. Right away critics talk mess about oh the band lost its touch and all. U2 is definitely in the top 5 bands for best live acts. Thats all I got to say BOUT That.
@espinozafn - so agree- amazing band in all aspects- I love watching the old footage because they are so young and have no idea what a great future they are about to have. However, they did almost breakup a few times- and the song ONE saved that from happening- whenever I hear that song now I think they are talking to eachother at times... thx for posting

This was when u2 mattered and were truly magnificient. Now they are big-headed limo liberal hypocrites who couldn't write a song this good again if their lives depended on it
So what your telling me is Beautiful day, Kite, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, prob Bono's best vocal, and I'll go Crazy, Moment of Surrender, Unknown Caller just to name a few are bad songs. Get real man. U2 are the best band ever, and still continue to write some of their best music.
@BonoWeCanBeOne Kite Moment of Surrender and Unknown Caller are good songs. but notice, U2 don't play kite anymore instread they play this sh#t like Elevation. why was Moment of Surrender not released as the single and the release that crap Boots instead?
one of the things that make u2 so unique is all of Larry's little millitary marching style rolls and fills. He is one of my favorite drummers. No one else comes close to his sound. Streets, Bad, IWF and this song are just a few that spring to mind when I think of how great his playing is.
A truly incredible version of this song. Listening to this now brings a flood of emotion from when I first really got into U2. For better or worse, they were quite different back then. Love this album!
This has always been one of my all time favorite U2 songs, especially this live version...It can be found on the Wide Awake in America EP, btw... I listen to it every time when I travel back home... Just amazingly beautiful...
I love everything about this song. I remember I first bought the cassette for the song Unforgettable Fire. And this is now one of my all-time favorites by the band. "...see faces ploughed like fields that once gave no resistance." Man, that is awesome. And this is a great performance. Thanks a bunch for sharing.
Certainly an overlooked U2 song, it's at least as good as Pride off the Unforgettable Fire. I just love the bassline, it's amazing. Man they have so many brilliant songs.
have to agree billybillyboab, early u2 up to Rattle and hum was by far their best material. Written from the heart. I respect them for trying different genres with discotheque etc but not my cup of tea!!
Achtung Baby is amazing but they just don't care enough anymore to write songs like this anymore. The recent albums are good but they could be by any rock band, the sound in the early records was very distinctive. The Joshua Tree is the best album I have ever heard. Bono is to busy saving the planet these days to make great, live changing music.
billyboab, got to agree with you there!Up to the Joshua Tree, U2 were a great band with great songs that really meant something. After this brilliant song writing period, they just became, well, ordinary, bland, corporate rock. A lot like Oasis for the past 10 years! Writing albums for the accountants!! Just my opinion. You`re all welcome to have an educated pop at me if you want. Please dont start with bad spelling or "your mother sucked my..." etc etc.I expect a little education from U2 fans.
Its admirable that Bono cares about such causes but he should'nt be making speeches at concerts about making poverty history, people pay alot of money to watch U2. There I-Pod commercials say it all really, it's all about money for them. Still The Unforgivable Fire and The Joshua Tree are incredbile works of art.
What if I told you they refused to take money for the iPod commercials? Because they didn't.
And it's incredibly ironic that you complain about Bono making statement about extreme poverty, and justify it by saying that people pay a lot of money to watch the concerts. Really? So you can spend money to watch a bunch of middle-aged men prance around on stage, but can't spare 10% of that for a dying African child?
I was making the point that when a band starts making commercials for such a major corporation that maybe their heart's not really in the music anymore. Bono sold out long ago, I think most people would accept that. It's great that he is drawing attention to the issue of poverty and AIDS in Africa, there is just a time and a place and a rock concert isn't it. U2 are one of the greatest bands of all time, that is not in debate. I think you missed my point Yukona.
One of their often overlooked gems. It's a shame they don't play it live anymore. Bono's voice definately shines in this, although more so in the Unforgettable Fire version. Both are spectacular, however.
I'm so psyched to find this recording on You Tube. I have the Unforgettable Fire CD, but I only had this recording on a strange little tape (The Unforgettable Fire mini-casette). This is my favorite U2 live recording, and I find I often prefer them. Bono just seems to attack the songs with more passion on stage than in the studio.
What a fantastic song. This is THE BEST EVER SONG U2 made. I think I marginally prefer the album version but this live version is also brilliant. This song blew me away first time I heard it. Great lyrics as well. Stunning track.
My top ten U2 songs are I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Walk On, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses?, Pride, One, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, A Sort Of Homecoming, Red Hill Mining Town and New Year's Day. This is a stunning version of homecoming though I do love the album version. U2 are still a great band but for me their music isn't as lifechanging as it once was but they still make superb records.
I agree with you. They were at their greatest in the 80's. Gloria is also a life changing song for me, along with this song. It still gives me goosebumps after 23 or so years.
Does anyone knows where this song is recorded? Its the best version i've ever heard. Its better then the album version, so if you know, please tell me :D
Re Eirik 199245: I read your comment on asking where U2 performed 'A Sort Of Homecoming' live. I can confirm it was Rotterdam which I think is in Holland. And it was performed October 1984. I just thought I would answer your question for you.
To elsoda, who complains that U2 are "bad" now compared to 20 years ago, ... imagine how much you've changed as a person in the last 5 years, let alone 20. They are still as good as they were in the 80's. They're just good in a different way with a different sound. They're just as powerful and brilliant. Resistance to change is unhealthy. Embrace it.
Yeah. U2, guys, now when are we gonna see a remastered version of the Un4gettable Fire? THat is missing in link, as the 3 B4 and 1 after were remastered
They are still the best band in the world!! They are so good they were able to expand and diversify their style and sound and still make some of the best music around.........

If they didn't matter they wouldn't be around doing new music today.
I heard that same argument from rich kids in the early nineties when Achtung Baby was released. Talking about U2's best days are behind them.
Why waste data on YT talking about what you don't like.
If any band deserve to have fun with their music after all these years, it should be U2.
