From all Australian airlines I've seen recently, Ansett is just the best of the best. Had Ansett survived bankruptcy, it would have been the best airline in Australia. They were the ones who had class.

Ansett was better, I would have rated Ansett a 9.5/10 and Qantas a 7/10. Ansett had the aviational initiative over Qantas, they brought in all the new ideas like full service meals on planes ect. Qantas was forced to keep up and as a result when Ansett collapsed they were probably near equal for all services, excluding business class which was Ansett's superior product over Qantas in terms of service. Now that there is no premium competition for Qantas domestically, service has declined.

Well, more accurately the collapse actually occured around 2:15am on the morning of 14th Sep 01. Relaunched Sep 29th as MK2 - which struggled on until the final shutdown, as you've mentioned - March 4th, 2002.

Well the first dude is Gary Toomey the knob, er, CEO who with the help of Air New Zealand, drove Ansett into the ground, but celebs include Lee Kernaghan, Tania Zaetta, Michael Klim, Dawn Fraser, Burt Newton, Jenny Kee, Fiona Coote, Akira Asigawa (sp?), Wayne Cooper, Some Cricketers and AFL Footballers, Bernard King, Peter Morrisey and Pete Smith. There are others I can't pick as they are not clear. Plus of course the hundreds of wonderful employees of Ansett who all lost their jobs.
