  • Don't you think youtube should let the video load while the ad plays?

  • Some people aren't Deists? Shame.

  • thumbs up if Religulous brought you here

  • I'm a christain but still have to admit that most christain charities are corrupt.

Also this song is brilliant <3

  • @samharriswenttoparis its cool to see someone say something sensible im not against religion at all , i just see alot of currupt televangelist and it literally does bum me out

  • its the guy of little britain

  • how does this only have 300k views?

  • Ben Folds rules. Simple.

  • Am I the only one that thinks that the televangelist looks a tiny bit like Bobby Kotick?

  • Oh Thank Mahr for Religulous!

  • Wait, Minnesota Not Part of Jesusland? Dammit, I hate The United States of Canada.

  • @Chrisgodoflard Why not move to New Hampshire. We'll love and tolerate the shit out of you.

  • @TheWaluigiman1 hahahahaha

  • matt lucas?!

  • I'm not totally against a belief in God but I can't imagine God cares where I put my penis.

  • the awkward moment where a top comment say where instead of when

  • 1:11 should be cut out of the video.

  • I like Jesus Christ...just not a fan of his followers!

    Ben Folds is so talented.

  • This video would be amazing, if it weren't for the stupid evangelist, that whole bit should have been omitted.

  • I wish people would just stop talking about religion every time it gets mentioned in a song. I follow Christianity and agree with its principles. However its annoying to have comments dedicated to religious debates rather than to talking about the song/artist/ music culture or time period of the music. Debates belong in online discussion forums.

  • @gmscorpio111691 ... this is an online discussion forum...

  • i dont believe in religion myself, but its so sad that people take advantage of deeply religious people with god claiming to heal and demanding money...

  • The main thing here is to not judge Christ by christians. I know that sounds crazy and its not how it should be. Read what Jesus has to say, accept Christ, not christianity. Thats the main problem with christianity today, there are too many "christians" who don't know christ or live for him and that is what turns people away. I completely understand all the atheists, if I didn't have a relationship with christ already, I wouldn't want one bc I wouldn't want to turn into the "christians" I see.

  • If you are able to wake up each day and your feet hit the floor and you are able to breath that really is a big step of faith wouldn't you think. By the way I would be willing to also bet you that on a battlefield it would be hard to find an atheist. I chose to believe in the higher one(God) because there are too many things that no one can explain the reason or what for behind. What ever your stand may be the fact is things work better then any of us think. AMEN God Bless

  • Best part: 3:46

  • You can tell this is a great song because it inspires conversation.

  • every time i watch this, i cry. I am a jew...what an odd but a sound statement. This just leaves me in awe.

  • @tashaffin the difference here is that the disciples would know with absolute certainty if what they were claiming was true or not. They're not dying on the believe that some man saw God by himself on a mountain. They're dying on the belief that they themselves saw Jesus die and be in their presence 3 days later. They're dying for THEIR story, not someone else's.

  • shut up about god already if hes all around us we would walk into him so therefore he is not real

  • @seaman636 Can you see the wind?

  • This video would be stunning if it weren't for the televangelist.

  • Anybody notice the televangelist looks like Cartman?

  • Great song, crap vid. Director has no idea of what this song is about.

  • @pettydemon I'm pretty sure the artist has a little something to do with the video...if not complete creative control...

  • The vocal melody in the verse is very similar to 'Put the Book Back on the Shelf' by Belle and Sebastian, which is another excellent song and well worth a YouTube search for fellow Ben Folds fans.

  • religion is a sharing of idea's and respecting eachother as a whole. it is people having hope for what they believe in and having something that brings them confidence throughout the day. it is not something to argue with others with different opinions. if you want to spread yout word, good. more power to ya. but this isnt the way to do it. make sure people actually want to learn more about it first otherwise your not teaching them anything; your just pissing them off. believers gonna believe.<3

  • To Athiest: STFU

    To Christians:STFU

  • Everytime I see this video, I get the chills.

  • carm.org

  • Fact: there was a man, Jesus. He claimed to be messiah

    He was killed by Romans

His followers claimed he rose from the dead

They either knowingly lied or believed they were telling the truth.

They were killed for not renouncing their faith.

Logic:If his followers knew they hadn't seen Jesus would they have died for a belief they knew was false?

There are only 2 options. You can believe all hundreds of people who claimed to see him shared a hallucination OR that Christianity is true

    message me

  • @masonhogfan I think you are unsure of the definition of fact...or you are grossly misinformed.

  • @Xenophobia080 Sorry, I ran out of characters so I had to shorten some of the explanation haha. which of those facts do you not agree with?

  • @masonhogfan - History is full of masses of idiots literally killing themselves following their supposed prophet. 2000 year old anecdotes have even less weight.

  • as a person who actually believes, i usually find the commentary of atheists and agnostics to be far more compelling and "true" than many who claim the name of the Christ... if we really believe he is divine, it seems we'd realize that he doesn't need to be defended... and we who bear his name always need our work to be questioned and criticized, since we are often wrong in our conduct.

  • @jdon03scott very true . . . when he was giving himself to the romans to be crucified, peter tried to save him by cutting a roman's ear off. Jesus denied the rescue and went on to die for our sins. jesus was not sent to earth to be saved, he was sent here to save us. PS NO I AM NOT SENDING THIS TO START AN ARGUEMENT WITH ANY ATHEISTS!!! if you dont believe in Jesus, fine. thats your opinion. but do yourself and me a favor: dont insult me so i dont have to insult you.

  • @jdon03scott on a side note. . . that added part for atheists in my last message was more for youtube as a whole. . . wasnt aimed for you in particular. i apologize if that threw you off XD.

  • These comments seem to be filled less with religious arguments and more with comments of people trying to elevate themselves by discrediting the process of arguing.

  • this is beautiful - sounds a lot like a simon and garfunkel song

  • I just like the fact that you so called christians filmed in you environment, make the rest of us shake our heads.and make us proud to be free thinking from religious oppression...

  • I am a christian and i dont think people our idiots thats there business i may not agree with it but i shouldnt be a jerk about it and neither should any other christian. We are supposed to act Christ like not like jerks

  • @bobthechef223 ..............

I assume that Christ could spell and had correct grammar.

You might want to work on acting like him.

  • @GreenBreakFree That post was from my phone. Sorry it will not happen again.

  • Oh hey look, a Youtube fight on a video with the name "Jesus" in the title.

  • I am OBSESSED with the ron paul commercial in the beginning. Where can i find a video of it?

  • Where was this filmed? Does anyone know?

  • @Mykneesrcold Most likely filmed around Nashville, where Ben currently resides.

  • its sickening when people like you try and force people to believe in whatever you believe in, everyone else is just trying to live a good life, and whether you believe or not...your wasting either the time given to you by god or the time given to you by science sitting on a chair arguing with someone you dont even know about something you think you understand but dont. If you really want to spend your life doing that, well then do it somewhere else, cos noone wants you doing it here. Cheers.

  • @tiernaoc96 I hope you're not talking about the song, because he isn't sitting around on his ass arguing weather Jesus is real, or weather science put us on earth, he's doing what he loves, and that's playing music. If I could waste away my life doing that, then I would.

  • @jessecara Im actually not talking about the song, im talking about some of the people commenting on this video. So I assume I'm actually agreeing with you, I want people to just listen to the good music and stop arguing over pointless stuff, and if they want to do that dont do it here.

  • @tiernaoc96 Then you're off the hook. ;)

  • I don't care what your view on how the universe was created is, or what you think about God or Jesus or religion or anything. This is an awesome song. So shut it and listen.

  • Matt Lucas!!

  • that awkward moment where the two top comments are the exact same thing

  • this is a truly BRILLIANT song. and mean that in the sence of how very few other great songs use the same or similar structure, its lyrics meaning more sence about christianity that almost anyones told me, and it appeals to everyone (other than ignorant jerks who lack the knowledge of empathy and opinions to make judgement of others tastes) even, me, and im 12

  • Little britain.

  • Fuck this im listening to still figthing it

  • love that song

    from religulous

  • @Britpop94 Such a good movie!

  • I can't listen to this song without thinking of that Holy Land scene in Bill Maher's Religulous. Great song and great movie!

  • im a christian and i still love this song.

  • Copper Cab became a priest?

  • Ben Folds is the closest thing we have to an interventionist God.

  • Quoting Bible verses to an Atheist to support your religious views isn't very bright.

  • @SuperJmac85 How so? Atheist should never be ignorant to the teachings of another religion. Most Atheist groups support the idea of having knowledge of the Gods and deities other people worship. Never self-associate yourself with the typical view of an Atheist: hateful and ignorant.

  • @Rigid11494 Maybe so. But to base your whole argument against Atheism by quoting a couple of Bible verses to someone who, if they are a true Atheist, doesn't believe the Bible has any truth to it, is a flawed strategy. I wasn't associating myself with anyone, but thanks for saying so.

  • @SuperJmac85 a lot of atheists are actually kind of agnostic, i would know. i personally believe there is some kind of force, i believe in the teachings of the bible but atheists mainly just don't believe in the idea of god. the bible does have truth in its teachings, love thy neighbour? anyone who doesn't believe that is a prick.

  • @MissPumpkiinBabyy What if your neighbor is a rapist, or a child molester?

Actually I guess the bible doesn't really mind that sort of behavior.

  • @andymc32 'jesus' apprently said something like everyone should love each other like friends, if everyone loved each other like friends, you wouldn't have rapists or child molesters now would you?

  • @MissPumpkiinBabyy Of course the Bible has some good teachings. But, many people have never opened a Bible and know that "love thy neighbor" is a good idea. The Bible doesn't have a monopoly on morals.

  • @SuperJmac85 I know that but what you said is that atheists believed that the bible has NO truth to it, there is truth in its teachings was all I was saying.

  • @SuperJmac85 You do realize a majority of the Bible deals with philosophies and historical stories, right?

  • @Rigid11494 I had noooo idea...... :/

  • This is a song about a religious ginger. It is ironic because gingers don't have souls.

  • Errrr think you are all missing the point of this song. He's not criticizing Christians and Christianity. he's criticizing suburbia as a whole, labeling it as jesusland because that's a prevalent stereotype of the religious demographic. If you listened to more than the chorus you'd find a whole range of different criticisms. fuck.

  • To anyone who wants to start a religious debate in the comments section of this video, allow me to save you the trouble:

Atheist: Anyone who believes in God is an idiot, because I'm going to equate God to Santa Claus, thereby proving that I am right.

Christian: Anyone who doesn't believe in God is an idiot, because Bible.

A: You have been brainwashed by the Church.

C: You have been brainwashed by the media/your parents/the governament/etc.

    A: You suck.

    C: You suck.

    The End.

  • You forgot Agnostic: Shut up, you're all morons.

  • @InsertOpinonHere Is this even about religion?

  • @InsertOpinonHere

Although I agree with you, I honestly don't see what's wrong with the first line.

  • @InsertOpinonHere Atheists don't beleive God is an idiot. They don't beleive he exsists therefore he can't be an idiot. lol Anyways good song.

  • you people who believe in god are stupid. there is no god. do you believe in the easter bunny too? OPEN YOUR EYES.

  • @murntok "The fool has said in his heart "There is no God". Do you seriously open YOUR eyes and look at creation and not hear it shouting out praise to it's creator?! Are you seriously saying that the beauty of creation came about because nothing exploded? I don't think so, explosions cause chaos, not beauty and order.

  • @boberlain what creator? proof or GTFO. on the other hand, there is lots of proof (y'know actual evidence, not somebody's story) about the big bang, evolution, and that the universe is filled with disorder and chaos, that's what brought us about, like a lottery. you can go on singing praises and whatnot, living for someone or something else, i will continue to enjoy my life, for me. you can bring any argument about god you want, and i will shoot them down, one by one.

  • @murntok SO then tell me, friend, what caused the Big Bang? What caused that singularity to exploded and cause matter to fly in every direction for trillions upon trillions of light years? Hm?

  • @Vendrof the end of the last universe. which collapsed. there's only so many atoms in the universe and stars are powered by these atoms by changing them into different atoms and energy. once those atoms are changed, and all the stars in run out of fuel, the universe will go dark. the only "thing" left, black holes, will suck up each other and all matter , bringing us back to a black hole. eating itself, it's stucture will collapse, unleashing all the "new" (changed by intense gravity) matter.

  • @murntok You've given me a theory of how the universe began, a very well-supported and highly accepted one. BUT you still have not disproved the existence of God. Because it's impossible to argue either side of the case. You can give proof as to why there MIGHT be or not be a God but that's not really proof, now is it? So pretty much I'm saying it's pointless to argue, so how about you don't be an asshole and just enjoy the song.

  • God is not happy and pleased with the choices man has made, however, he has given us free will and therefore the ability to choose. He cannot interfere, which would interrupt our free agency. We must learn from our choices good and bad.

  • If there is a God, I think he's disappointed.

  • @Raydienz why?

  • It's Ben Folds' commentary on how Christians are in the United States. The "you" in this song refers to Jesus himself. Ben's saying what would happen if Jesus took a walk through different towns. He presumes that people wouldn't even recognize him, even though they supposedly live a holy life. They're merely too focused upon their own lives to realize that Jesus is right in front of their own homes and faces.

  • i never got this song. What is it about?

  • @chroylikesfish It's Ben Folds' commentary on how Christians are in the United States. The "you" in this song refers to Jesus himself. Ben's saying what would happen if Jesus took a walk through different towns. He presumes that people wouldn't even recognize him, even though they supposedly live a holy life. • REEVVVV

  • is this like ... a parody ?

  • @razorel yes jesusland is not a good thing

  • @razorel Not sure it's so much a parody as it is an observation on the commercialization of Christianity, and how Christians have, in general, strayed from the true meaning of their religion.

  • Matt Lucas!

  • we are all god. but its true jesus is king

  • I think if Jesus took a walk through modern day America he would be thinking this song.

  • sooo....don't get me wrong but i think this is a ben folds music video, not a forum for religious debate. so lets put all our ignorant petty attacks on things we don't understand aside and agree that This Song Is Flippin' Wonderful!

  • Ghandi obviously never followed his own advice... "Never judge a phillosophy from it's abuse!"

  • @cribisencinibis He was judging the people, not the philosophy. He was clearly in favor of the philosophy of Christ, "I like your Christ." Now, I doubt he was saying that in a "I like that guy Jesus, he's really cool" kind of way. He was judging the abusers for their abuse, as stated in the remainder of the sentence, setting up a pretty clear barrier between judging the philosophy and judging its blind followers.

  • @DimHereafter @DimHereafter thanks for the response. Always great to hear different view points... Can you explain how one can separate Christians from Christ? He is their philosophy ! It is obvious Ghandi's position was in relation to both they and he. (Christ) Now if he was separating the two as you suggested... Judging the "abusers" would imply his followers. And in that sense Christian philosophy as following Christ is the core belief.

  • @cribisencinibis Well, look at it from the perspective of non-Christian like Ghandi. He had his own beliefs and values, but could recognize some of the amazing things taught in the New Testament. He could also look at how so-called Christians stray from the real beliefs and values and mix up their own beliefs. The most absolutely perfect example is the gay community. In the Old Testament, it's seen as a foul and murder-worthy act to be gay. Jesus taught none of that, however.

  • To many comments about gingers and christ. Cant we just talk about how good the song is and how Ben looks like a badass in his glasses?

  • gingers cant sing.... what the hell is this... i love this song tho.

  • This song is beautifully sad.

  • that ginger is not a real ginger actually, he's bald instead!!! He's Matt Lucas!

    btw, love to this song!!

  • true gingers don't have souls i concure.. vevo sucks

  • true gingers don't have souls i concure..

  • ~How can there be a ginger on an advert about God? Ginger's don't have souls.

  • @Kendrubbin hes not really ginger! in fact he hasnt got a single hair on his body!

  • why the fuck was there a justin bieber ad...

  • @chao1212 Good man. Nice to hear some people actually know their shit

  • @chao1212 and by the way "cosmic jew," not very nice. to everyon reading this. Ben Folds is Christian. he stated on one of his DVD's that this song is about people using Jesus to sell stuff. He idea sounds good but can someone give me some examples of this.

  • @chao1212 not to be bothersome but i find your rebutle quite hypocritical. you say we take sentences from a several thousand year old book but you take sentences from people who think they are smart because they believe they found the answer for God. Don't be ignorant, why are so many people Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Religions that billions follow and worship under the same God. Oh, and the Bible isnt the only book stating Jesus was the son of God written around that time.

  • @hancock06 lmao

  • So weird to see Ben sitting down while playing :)

  • @hancock06 Do you think this is clever? No, I'm not attracted to guys, but does that mean I have to hate people who are? No. You're a disgusting piece of shit, so go suck your ancient, heavily-altered, mind-numbing scripture and please leave this world because your lack of common sense isn't doing anyone any good.

  • @hancock06 You're a good example of why religion is dangerous.

  • @hancock06 Is ignorance fun?

  • This is both a beautiful and sad video (and song). Lately, when I see the abandoned buildings in our cities wracked by the crappy economy, it makes me really freaking sad...neighborhoods forgotten by whatever administration happens to be in power. While organized religion (and big business) grows and grows and grows. Contrast that with all the beautiful people of all types, colors, faiths (or no faiths)...a great video.

  • @kenmeyerjr There is no government; it is all a big corporation, and unless you have money, you have no power.

  • " I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ." ---- ----------------Mohandes Ghandi

  • @averagejoe0926 genious ;)

  • Comment removed

  • humans are born in sin, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of god" Romans 3:23. we will never live holy lives no matter how hard we try. we are helpless but not hopeless thats why jesus came to die on the cross for our sins so that we can know him without being perfect. "for god so loved the earth that he gave his only son, that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

  • @averagejoe0926 a rather disingenuous thing to say considering there would be no ghandi if he hadn't read the kingdom of god is within you by tolstoy.

  • I highly doubt this song is about religion.

  • damn this song is in the " gives me chills" category definately

  • Is the preacher Matt Lucas from Little Britain?

  • @mralan80 Yes Sir, it is :)

  • Heard this in Bill Mahers 'Religulous'.

  • Jesusland

  • Just enjoy the music people! No need to argue...

  • thumbs up if bill maher's movie "Religulous" brought you here

  • three people thought it was zombie land

  • Life is so much simpler as an Atheist.

  • @sleepyjarrod yes but when you die. then what happens? For christians, we live eternaly in heaven and are perfect. you will never have that if you dont make it right now.

  • @smiley16sare When I die, hopefully the world and the people's lives I affected in this world are better for me having been here, and I am fine with that. I will die, my children, and grandchildren will live. Life will go on without me. I have been a part of this universe in one form or another since it started, and I will be long after I am no longer recognizable as the human being. :)

I'm sorry, but I don't believe in your heaven, hell, God or Devil. Please respect my beliefs.

  • @smiley16sare *In your opinion

  • @snowheyoh321 Yes, in my opinion. My opinion that throughout history, every mystery that has ever been solved has turned out to be...not magic! Every myth, including the one about Jesus, can be explained by simple logic and reasoning. Maybe start with the fact that the Aramaic word for "virgin" and "young woman" are the same word...you can figure out where I'm going with this. No more youtube evangelism from me though, do your own non biased research from all the CREDIBLE sources you can find.

  • My reply wasn't meant for you, look at the name-it was meant for the people who come on here and present their religious views as cold hard fact.

  • @sleepyjarrod "My opinion that throughout history, every mystery that has ever been solved has turned out to be...not magic!" Ah so that's your original opinion? Not Tim Mitchins? I see......

  • @randypagan Whoa, way to call me out there, big shot. Yeah, I borrowed a line from Storm. And where the fuck exactly did I say that it was my "original" opinion? I said it was my opinion. Are you aware that more than one person can have the same opinion? even if I borrowed the eloquent way a professional performer who is really damned good expressed that opinion doesn't mean I didn't have it before hand. Should I have included a fucking bibliography or works cited page on my youtube post?

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to live a life following the Virtues of Jesus Christ. The Problem is I have yet to see a Church do a good job of convincing anyone of doing this. They are very good at convincing people to give money though.

  • i thought he said "she's a slaaaag" :L x

  • Isn't that the guy from Little Britain? :O

  • Alot of the most extreme and ridiculous christians ruin the image for the normal christians. Its the same when there is an overly flamboyant gay person that ends up putting a face on all gay people who don't act that way and live their lives like everyone else. I also think alot of mentally unstable people get attracted to christianity because churches can be so welcoming and friendly to outsiders so the public sees those people and put a label on all christians..

  • @AnneShebib8 "normal christians" are the power base for the bad things that the other christians do

  • @MaximilianHorizon U MAD BRO?

  • @MaximilianHorizon

    about what? o_O

if you are gonna use a prefab sentence, at least learn when to use it
