  • I $.02 is go with a Mic. and make a cheap DIY TriPod.

  • at $229... I'd just start looking at a second system for sound. A used Zoom h4n would produce great results without having to add a second mic to it. But... I understand the not wanting to have to deal with syncing. And I'm also coming from a different perspective then just using it for direct to camera address. Since I feel any gear you buy should be single purpose.

  • @thechuckstone The syncing is one of the major reasons, yeah. I'm completely terrible at audio mixing/syncing/what-have-you as I tried before with a previous set up. I settled on the Rode as a solid performer for what I need it to do. If I end up doing stuff like you or Bob do, I'll re-evaluate my options later on. I'm actually kind of leaning towards the tripod, but right now its backordered (I have to go with Amazon since I have a bunch of giftcards to make up most of the purchase)

  • If you are looking to ever make money with your camera, you need a tripod first. you can get a decent handheld mic for the difference in the price between the videomic and tripod. You will never regret getting a tripod first. plus the added weight of the mic with a shit tripod will only hinder. For these types of videos a $50 dollar mic that has a battery would be more then enough.

  • @thechuckstone I understand the tripod thing. It's just for these particular videos (the bread and butter of my channel), the most noticeable flaw is the audio. I plan on getting both, and in a relatively short succession, but I'm just wavering back and forth.

  • @thechuckstone And I don't have the funds to put out $50 on a mic and then just turn around and get the more expensive one later. In fact, I have a cheap mic, but the sound is about on-par with the onboard so its a bit useless.

  • Seems like you record in a room with a fair amount of echo. Buying an external mic can really help cancel out a lot of that echo, not to mention give you much clearer audio. I use a Zoom H1 in most of my videos and it works great :)

  • @TimGruberMiller That's part of it, sure. Was looking at the Zoom H1 but thought I'd be better off going with the Rode. The other thing is that it all just sounds a bit tinny to me.
