Good job! :) im training for my first barrel race which will be on the 20th. You look like your having so much fun! Cant wait till its my turn to go into the arena! :)))
@haleyaustin0898 I know. I've been barrel racing for about 3 years maybe 4. And if that girl wants the barrel racing ride of her life she ain't gonna wanna ride an arab. That girl needs a quarter horse. She won't know what to think! They are amazing horses and really great at barrels
As long as you both had fun, that's all that matters. I took my TWH pleasure horse in a barrel class once and although he cantered, he was still slower than a pony who trotted the pattern! Didn't matter - we had some laughs.
it seems like you had a lot of fun there. don't listen to the other stupid comments, i think for that that he isn't ridden western so often it was pretty good : D

k i wanna kno y she is rding in a snaffel english bridle?! hahaha like seriously no wonder she doesnt have any control of her horse when she is turnin!! wow bad part on the partens
She's riding in that bridle because Nike has far too soft a mouth for a western bit (or at least, any of the western bits I own). He's an english horse, he's very rarely ridden western. And she has no control because she's a beginner rider. And I know I did a bad job, it was a first time. As in, we'd never practiced or anything.
I barrel race not very well but I have girls that are really good and they barrel race in snaffles because they're horses have soft mouths... it all depends on the rider and horse combination.

LOL horsecarzypeep you can only trot!? Oh my gosh! Going fast like to a canter is so much better! Canter is my favorite gait but I bet you don't even know how to canter!
Hahaha! I do something similar to what the girl's doing in there, except I trot around cones and do figure eights. I take lessons, so I hope I go from cone racing to actual barrel racing. :D
wow, these comments have turned into a bragging session, first of all for all you "Advanced" riders, how do you define "advanced". jumping 4 feet at 6 and 9? i dont think so. ive done 2nd level dressage, jumped 3 feet in jumper shows and haved made barrel racing time of 28 seconds. im 14. what does that make me? advanced? beginner? intermediate?
That was me. That saddle is a weird fit for me, stirrups too long, seat too small. So I was bouncing around. I've never barrel raced either, so i have magical wide turns, lol. I was holding him back some at the end, because I didnt really want him running full tilt out into the crowd at the gate....I was just scared, lol. I want to try again sometime....it was pretty fun, though we looked very silly.
That was cute lol and dang,I wouldn't have been able to do the pattern with no stirrups lol and don't listen to the people who say kids get on their nerves, they're just jerks.I love watching the little kids do their show after the competition lol
i hate when little kids waist my time too walk around the barrels its anoying. it may be cute at first, but after about 4 of them that each take like a min each.
have you ever been to a rodeo they take for ever little kids wouldn't care if they just rode around out side the arena! May be it just the ones that I have been to that do that!
That is really selfish. Let the kids have htier turn. At my event today I found it cute the little kids walking. They learn. They have to somewhere. There are different classes. Just wait your turn.
thats mean jewely4me. How else are you goning to lern. Everyone starts out like that. I did and now Iam good and soon all the little kids who walk around the barrels. Just beacuse they dont know how to run dosen't mean that they can't have fun and go places.
yeah, but how old were you? How long had you been riding?
Because I ran full speed at my first barrel race, too. But I was 19 years old and have been riding all my life.
Sarah, in the video, had just learned to trot not long before this. She just went to have a good time. Everyone there enjoyed themselves. A lot of kids are really young, and it would be completely irresponsible to let them ride full tilt. Some of them are so young that they need to be lead around, like in the pee wee classes.
i did it at a full gallop my first time. i didnt fall i didnt scream or cry
and i I didnt hold the horn. I still compete in barrel racing, and I ride a horse thats by a triple A race horse. Around turns i hold the horn but thats because I have a good horse.
But holding onto the horn counter-balances the horse's motion and puts more of a strain on their inside foreleg because holding onto the horn shifts your center of balance against the inside stirrup...
Ummm NO It's called you lean out and stay on top oh the horse. So you don't knock it's ballence off. I've been riding since I was 4 I think i know what I'm talking about. and even pros hold on to the horn. When you gave a horse that turns as sharp and as quickly as mine dose holding on to the horn helps keep both me and my horse from falling.
So? Half the pros jerk their ass around the saddle, too. Are you trying to tell me that you can't stay in balance and on top of the horse without holding onto the horn? If so, go back to basic training.
I've been riding ponies ever since I was almost three, cantering by four. I was in ADVANCED lessons by 9yo where I quit, got hired to work at a ranch at 11, where I trained my first horse that year. I've been hired to train over 45 horses, I think I know what I'm talking about.
I can but my horse turns so quickly some times to keep me from throwing her off balence i have to grab the horn around the turn. OOOOOOOO you ride ponies how cute. DUDE i ride Quarter horses, big, strong, fast ass Quarter horses. i trained my first horses at 6 broke it in all by myself. I was hired to break in an older horse at 11. I've turned spirited game horses in to calm pleasure horses. I am known for training versitility horses. So ppl can have a horse to win games and pleasure.
Dude are you mentally handicapped? I'm an adult of course I don't ride ponies. I started OUT on shetlands. Which are actually bitchier and harder to handle than a well-mannered full sized horse.
My last major project I trained was a 17.1hh pure draft mare with a major bucking problem.
This summer I've been barrel racing three QH horses and working with an extremely challenged TB. QHs aren't even that big.
If you can't stay balanced, go back to the basics.
At any rate, I'm done here. You're too up your own ass to waste my time on... and now that you've turned to PETTY mocking and making a fool of yourself on the comments of a little girl's cute video, I'm sure you feel good about yourself too.
You go ride your big 15hh horse, I'll go back to the bulldoggy 17hh+ Olympic-bound vaulting and trick riding horses.
... I did not diss the little girl. WOW mental handicap yet AGAIN! I said the girl was adorable and people actually jumped on me for DEFENDING her. WOW.
So you don't think Clydesdales and Belgians are big and buff? Haha WOW. Like I said, I'm done here.
thats fine but i just wanna say somthin for anyone who reads this.
oh my bad u were dissing me b/c u think ur all that and ur all tuff cause you can talk crap over youtube. cldydesdales and belgins are BEASTS they are huge but they arnt barrle horses.
Everyone likes diffrent breeds and Quarter horses are very popular in the U.S and are know for thier speed. BEING BARREL HORSES. YOu being a know it all should know that 15"-15.3" hands is the ideal size fir a barrel horse. So stop dissin me.
Well my first barrel race is this saturday and i plan to RUN which i have never done before... if you are not ready don't go! And jewely4me most people at rodeos go fast if you are in a good accosiation. Not to be rude to the little girl, Sarah , she did good
good job! In no time, you'll be winning races all the time! You are a fantastic rider. Keep up all the good work. Push Nike to run like the wind, and if you get scared, there is always that horse for your safety!
She had just learned to trot the day before. She's not been riding for nearly as long as you probably had. She had no experience or anything. So she did excellent considering her skill level.
