  • amazing video sir

  • i don't know how to play it and yet i fixed it thank you very much

  • thanks

  • You should fix the 15th fret.

  • Just started watching from 718 and in a guitar maintenance book I have where several luthiers and classical guitar musicians were interviewed, they state that the pliable end should be cut off, and a common error is to use that to die, but it will be weaker. It is just something that happens in the production, and should not be used. Any thoughts??

  • @taxisteve929 tie...not die

  • Page 1 - Item#1 on "Guitar Care and Maintenance Handout" ....Do not hang guitar on wall for 20 years......(BG) just kidding...great video!!

  • i got a string with a ball at the end what should i do????

  • @MrSnowman1996 go and get a classical guitar string. read the uploader's top comment.

  • @MrSnowman1996 that ball goes in the top side so you dont need to do tiding, and in the bridge you do the same as he did...sry for my bad english.,..

  • Thanks you so much!!!! i am ´new to the guitar, so i borrowd one from my ant it needeed new string so i went to buy some.. got home and was lost... but Thaaaaaaaanks!!

  • Thakns very good tutorial

  • Thanks so much for this upload. It has helped alot!

In response to some of the comment about steel strings on a classical, my 1st guitar was a student classical, i got it when i was 5 yrs old, just a normal cheapie 1\2 scaler very similar in design to the guitar in this vid. It has had steel strings on it since i got it and im 32 now and it has not so much even affected the action let alone ripped the bridge off the thing.

  • Great instructional video! It's been years since I've played or re-strung and that was a great refresher. Thanks!

  • Thank you sir. Excellent video. My guitar is now stringed and ready for my favourite tunes.

  • Just wondering why you wouldn't sting them 6,5,4,1,2,3 instead so you're always working on top instead of threading underneath?

  • Great instructions!

  • Thanks!

  • good vid !

  • thank u very much for showing the video, it's really helping me, because that guitar is the same as mine, it has the same brigde, same tuner. awesome haha

  • thanks now I feel useful

  • Thank you. Really clearly explained and videoed!!

  • Thank you, out of tune at 11:00. :D

  • This video saved me from having someone else do this. This guy is awesome.

  • thank you. this was perfect ! im ready to do mine now ! CHEERS !

  • thank you im doing mine now

  • simply P E R F E C T !!!!!!!!!

  • You Are So nice And make aa clear and precise video. Can teflon lubricant be used instead For the Heads?

  • Very good video. Perfect!!! Even seem to give better sound on my guitar!!

  • Thank you!! you made my day!! thanks for your help! :))))

  • blahblablah.... replacement begins at 7:18

  • Excellent video. Thanks for your help.

  • Thank a lot for doing this mate

  • thanks, I tried it myself, but I squashed the snare two times where you did it once.

  • lol joe satriani doesnt know how to change strings

  • can i use lemon juice insted of the bore oil? or what else can i use?

  • @adiuliel See if you can buy lemon oil like Dr. Stringfellow. Look around and get peoples opinions about what to you and what you like best.

  • @adiuliel What to use*

  • thanks a lot ... for your help

    hi from greece

  • You must excuse me if i'll waste your time with a maybe stupid question. Is correct cut all the string and after change them - some peaple say to me that it can be dangerous for the wood or the instrument - or is better brake one string at time and change it??I want to say thank you for this video because is really evident and can explain also at a beginner like me, the correct way to string a classical guitar - that I play-. Sorry for my bad English. One more thanks. Bye

  • Wow i got the exact same guitar (Yamaha) as u!

  • you should put the cam in the other side... i cannt see what do you do with the string int he mastil and i dont understand english speaked :(

    but thanks for the video...

  • i wanna put steel strings on my classical guitar i just wanted 2 know if its possible 2 do soo :) very helpful video by the way

  • I want to ask what to do if I need to change one string and it is in the middle. I have to change all strings?

  • Outstandinding!

  • dude i love you, period

  • move your fucking hand!!!!!

  • @flipy203 Go away angry boy

  • i got a question because like i bought some silver plated ball endings and there not the same strings as yours so i dont know how to start if off

  • @staffitup I hope you don't mind if another person answers, but I thought I would; if you have ball ended strings, your life has been made much easier. All you do is pull the top of the string (the non-ball side) through the bottom the the pre-drilled hole. Pull it all the way through and than continue on with this man's steps after his tying step. Its much simpler than classic strings, theres absolutely no tying.

  • @mixtapebang yeah thanks it cleared it out a little bit i did the same thing what you told me and it worked out perfect

  • This helped me a lot.thanks!!

  • For anyone that was confused, like me, the "Care & Maintenance" handout mentioned in the video seems to be named "How to Change Strings on the Most Popular Guitars." Nice Video. Nice Handout!

  • i have like that same one with the same designs but i got 3 steel and 3 nylon strings on it

  • Great video!!!

  • you should have played it so that we could hear the sound. Ahhhhh!

  • Thank you for your helpful videos, began playing a little over a year ago, and now I've got a classic guitar, a normal electric guitar and a Floyd/Rose, and I found your videos on the latter and the first one immensely helpful.

I haven't had to change the strings on my classic guitar, though, and sure, it doesn't sound fresh or so, but I like it.

  • Nice tutorial I have the same guitar

  • I have that very guitar! just got back into playing again, and was going to restring it!

    Thanks!

  • thanks

  • nice tut. but i had massive trouble. i went to music place, i asked for a classical guitar and they gave me an acoustic guitar and i still put the strings on. beat that:)

  • What if you have Augustines with the loop at the end... do you still tie it at the bottom?

  • Mine's G228 is that low end too?

  • yeah listen to all warnings about steel strings on classical guitars. I do remember, however, a friend's dad putting electric guitar strings on an old acoustic to create a sort of 'practise' guitar- it wasn't very loud at all but was really easy to play and with much less tension than steel acoustic strings...

  • Should we change the strings one by one (changing each string with the old ones still intact) or take off all the old strings and then put on the new ones?

  • THX

  • which side of the steel strings do i use for the bridge? there is a bumpy and roundy end to the 6E 5A 4D strings

  • thank you!

  • Actual string replacement begins at 7:18.

  • @dumsteee it's like saying that life on earth started with humans! it's important to know how to take care of your guitar!

  • @dumsteee thank you so fucking much lmao

  • @sdsddsfdsgfsgs Classy. Grow up, "dum"steee.

  • That was my first guitar still got the original strings on I'm rubbish with fiddly things lol

  • show us your collection!

  • thank you!

  • thanks for sharing this info..And guys, if you don't like the video, just check something else..the person has taken some time and made some effort in making this video and giving some information to all of us for free..if you don't have the patience to watch, choose something else..but y do rate bad on these videos? it is a really decent video with very elegant explanation.

  • why do you even tie knots? mine never slip even on the high e knots just look stupid

  • Great vid, thanks! I'm not a fan of how the strings poke out of the bridge end, but very solid instruction. Great job!

  • Awesome vid Andrew! thank you

  • Thnxs for the vid. Really helped me out a lot.

  • Very well done! Thanks so much.

  • Thank you very much for your clear instructions.

  • thanks a lot!! it is a great video!!!

  • great vid. only suggestion would be to change the camera angle when tying the strings at the bridge and tuning pegs. your hands were in the way and couldn't get a clear shot of the strings being tied.

  • why dont u make a seperate video on how to clean ur guitar?

  • @awe3774 because you have to be retarded if you don't know how to clean you're guitar

  • @RcUniverseGuy Incorrect; there are many wrong ways to clean a guitar. Please sit down.

  • Dank Gott für YouTube! Lol thank you, I need to learn because I was being ripped off by that guitar shop ha ha :D

  • How in the world do you keep the 6th string from slipping when fastening it to the tuning peg? I do exactly the same as you do in this video, but my peg just keeps klicking and sending me back to "starting position".

  • thank you :] this made me happy face

  • Just wondering, it's probably stupid but with woodwind bore oil, does it matter on what kind of wood the neck is made out of? And is it relatively cheap? I found a site selling it for .75 and i don't know if that is low class oil or what not.

  • i hav to agree, u did cover ur hand on the begining of replacing the strings, but other than that... great tutorial, i will consider learning from u

  • maan, you cover the tie part with your hand, i can't see anything =/ but thanks for the tutorial!

  • Awesome instructor! Thanks for the lesson!

  • What an absolutely horrible demonstration!!! Dumb ass covers up the most crucial parts of when putting the string through the bridge & through the tuning pegs. You're a fucktard!!!! Most likely a Canadian too..

  • @puppiesinspace Go have a cry on mommy's lap, you're obviously upset about life and are venting on YT.

  • are ernie ball good guitar strings cuz i need strings and i dont know wat to pick???????someone awenser me

  • Interesting. Well that's good news as I was fretting (no pun intended) about how I'd oil the fretboard w/ all the strings still attached. Thanks.

  • I was always told guitar necks need constant tension - meaning you should not have all the strings off at the same time. Rather, when changing strings, take one off, and replace it w/ the new string. Is this untrue?

  • @tvandell23 ... Yeah, that whole idea is - total - complete bullshit man... Dan Erlewine (the monthly repair columnist for Guitar Player Magazine for 15+ years, contributor to Bass Player Magazine, Guitar Magazine, & Vintage Guitar Magazine) has stated publicly that the entire idea is completely false. Like he say's, "as a builder, when storing a guitar for long periods, we always remove the strings... do the necks warp? ...of course they don't."

  • you are the best, thanks so much for making this vid. You helped me out a lot!

  • I find it REALLY hard to see what you're actually doing sometimes

  • Thanks for making a great video hoser!

  • tnx 4 this vid...

  • thanks man.the quality is very important. In other videos i couldn't see the strings clearly.thanks again

  • Very Good!!

  • Can a nylon guitar can be change into a steel strings?

  • @MrFreeDrugs It is highly NOT recommended because Nylon guitars have weaker necks than steel string guitars, thus causing the neck to bend, and possibly causing some permanent damage to your nylon guitar. In contrast, you CAN use nylon strings on a metal string guitar, because of the same reasons as above(stronger neck etc...)

  • @MrFreeDrugs You can do it but there are risks of damaging the guitar. + It wont sound as good as it should. IF you really want to do it use an extra light gouge strings.

  • @MrFreeDrugs Not recommendable, the neck will most likely bend, cuz a classical guitar's neck isn't built to handle the tension of steel strings

  • @MrFreeDrugs,

This is not recommended because the bridge on a Nylon string guitar is not manufactured to the specifications needed to support the Lbs. at Tension of Steel strings. For example; a set of hard tension Nylon strings will apply around 85 pounds of tension at the bridge. However, a set of Steel Strings (Extra-Light Gauge) would apply approx. 135 pounds of tension. That's a difference of over 50 pounds! This would likely rip the bridge off of a Nylon String guitar.

    Thanks for viewing

  • @creativeguitarstudio wow, I've been using steel strings on my classical guitar for over 3 years xD

  • where can i buy some yamaha woodwind bore oil and how much does it cost...

  • Amazing lesson my friend.

I can change the strings on my electrics and steel string acoustics no problem but my classical Yamaha (exactly like yours) has always given me troubles. Thanks to you NO MORE SLIPPING! :-)

    Much appreciated

  • it looks ugly with all that excess string sticking out

  • @TheHaloChief117 I always get annoyed when I see someone playing a guitar with excess string. It's not difficult to cut the strings, and it makes it look better.

  • was searching for how to change strings to a guitar and i got a complete cleaning-renewing guitar class

  • Well I've watched multiple "how to replace guitarstrings" manuals and this was the best one. It was quite long (about 15 minutes) but I learned very much.

    Great video!

  • Thank you for the info. Great presentation.

  • is it ok to put the high E B and G strings steel and and the E A and D strings nylon will it damage my classical guitar????

  • Thanks for this excellent video. Your explanation is very clear and detailed.

  • It was a great video, but i needed a tutorial for a balled-end string.

  • Thank you so much, Andrew.

This was really helpful for a beginner like me.

    Best wishes, Niklas.

  • I just changed strings on a classical guitar for the first time last week, but they wouldn't stretch far enough for me to tune it right! Almost every string broke before it got to the right note. Should I leave time for them to stretch? Please help! thanks

  • omg , THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!

  • Could you make a video on how to restore a classical acoustic/electric? Someone gave me one, and it's quite beat up. The bridge is coming off.. And there are some really bad scratches that have scratched off chunks of enamel/paint.. So.. yea.. I'm not really sure what to do about it. I've emailed places in my town asking about repairing it.. but most wont.

  • My exact guitar, which I had for 25 years and I too am re-string after some time without strings. Your video stops after 2:45 minutes into it , at the point where you are steel wool the frets it and I can't get it to restart, it freezes??? Anyway to restart it?

What is Canadian Tire?. Manny in the USA

  • ur Irish arnt u ?

  • Thanks for this helpful video! Really appreciate it.

  • Thank you!

  • i use dunlop fretboard care kit for cleaning the fretboard

  • hey u should have showed how to tie the knot and all! not your hands lol

  • always remember the correct string must go onto the correct guitar type. if you mix match you'll get a horrible sound. my brother put steel strings on a classical guitar, not only did it sound horrible but the intervals were off. he tunes in octaves open E and fret 7 on A, but that's way off. i told him switch to nylon now his guitar sounds better.

  • Great job!

  • good stuff, thank you very being very thorough and informative.

  • Thank you so much

  • Uf.Iv just managed to changed 2 from 6 string on mine guitar thanks to your video.THanks for that im impressed olso witch all this guitar care things.I use only some wet cloth to clean mine but after you vid i will lokk for some oils.

  • @OfficialBlogger You're right, although the first 7:40 are informative, a pop-up with a "Skip to the strings!" link would be helpful for some.

  • 1. you CAN NOT put classical strings on an acoustic guitar or acoustic strings on a classical. it is not about the tension. it is about string diameter and intonation. you will never get them to tune to equal temperment. there is a reason classical guitars have a straight bridge/saddle (|). While the acoustic is slanted (\). listen again at 7:08 he says intonated G there is a reason. educate yourself. lots of info on the net about it. take care.

  • I bought a nylon on a wim and it sat with the original strings for about a year until one finally snapped which made me change them. I have been playing for alot of years but i use electric guitars alot and steel string acoustics so i am not used to the process of the restringing thanks for the video.

  • Good video...May I ask,can i use acoustic guitar's strings on my classical guitar?will it work like an acoustic guitar?Thx and pls reply

  • @sakiferg You should absolutely NOT put steel strings on a classical guitar. Classical guitars aren't built for the ammount of tension that steel strings need to work. If you put steel strings on your classical guitar you will probably end up wrapping the neck and doing damage to your bridge. So it's pretty much a bad idea :S

  • I bought a seven-year-old used Etude guitar yesterday. It looks like it was made yesterday. I'm going to clean the bass strings and reinstall them. Your instructions encourage me to try. Classes start in September.

    Thanks

  • Great video!! Thanks for uploading! :D !!

  • what is the diffrence between a acoustic strings and classical strings ????

  • @mijangosisaac Acoustic strings are metal strings and the classical strings are nylon, but it's not a good idea to put classical strings on a acoustic (western) guitar, and it's not a good idea to do the opposite either.

  • Hi, I have a problem tuning my classic guitar. I can't seem to tune my E 1st string. It keeps on having the same low note as the 2nd string. When I try to wind it up more, the string breaks due to tension. I checked again if I put the wrong string on it, but it was the correct string. What did I do wrong??????!

  • @hebikniet123

    ur guitar is cheap

  • @hebikniet123 maybe you didn't leave enough slack?

  • I found the exact same guitar in my grandparents' basement...covered in cobwebs (the spiders are gone) What can I use on them?

  • that was great thanks!!

  • Why don't you cut the strings at the bridge?, these short ends can cause buzz

  • I ALWAYS get nervous before, while, and after I restring my guitar. Almost mess up every time.

  • what exactly did you use to polish the guitar body? Thanks.

  • Excellent lesson. Very clear and professional. Thanks!

  • Hello! I have a question, Can i put back the string that broke because of too hard tuning? Or i already have to replace it with new one?

    Thanks.

  • Best instructional video I've seen in a while. Thanks!

  • Is vaseline oil for trumpets ok, too? I know the oil in your video has the same purpose as vaseline for trumpets...

Thnx for your video! I didn't know where to find a video like this one, nor did I know that classical and acoustic guitars are not the same.

  • @OfficialBlogger

Thnx for telling, I almost waited 7 minutes :)

  • Does anybody here use lemon juice to clean the fret board as well?

  • That's great. I can see what I've done wrong now.

  • lol i find it funny that a user with the name "Joe Satriani" wants to know how to change a classical guitar.

  • @EKCxVaNiTY fagget thats me hoe

  • @EKCxVaNiTY Yeah, he might be the shit on electric, but when it comes to nylon-classical he just a pussy

  • Hi. I have a classical guitar except the head(if thats what it's called sry) has a different shape, similar to an electric guitar. Anyone know how to do this?

  • You dont cut the excess strings off?

  • That looks like such a nice guitar. How much would that guitar be now?

  • what type of strings are best for a classical guitar??

  • i think my favorite are d'addario pro arte.

they last a long time and have great dynamics.

  • @madgimper agreed

  • D' addario Pro Arte Classical Guitat

EJ45 Normal Tension Siverplated Wound Clear Nylon 25 bucks

  • I am a bit confused. I am a beginner and don't know nothing about anything, so I google a lot of the stuff I want/need to know. And I read that you should not take off all the strings of an classical guitar at the same time because the body could warp and thus destroy the guitar.

I guess this isn't true then? Or does it depend on the type of classical guitar?

I also read that you have to wait a few hours before you tune the guitar 'cause the strings need time to widen. That's also not true?

  • it takes a really long time for a guitar to warp and it isn't really important or noticeable if that happens to a cheaper guitar. and it's alright to tune a guitar right after you put strings on, it'll just probably come untuned a few times and you have to retune it.
