the British usually had smaller armies than the French. Small elite british volunteers often fought against medium french knights and conscripts. Also until the British had the best navy, their only edge against the french other than volunteers fighting willingly and personal freedom of their people was the long bow :D

Though the French did conquer them in 1066 but slowly the English took back their homeland and parts of France, which in turn Joan of Arc took back. During the musketeer days British Red Coats were all volunteers and replaced the Chinese as the best army up until perhaps the Americans became number one in 1800's to the distant future (china again lol)

god a bunch of catapults unprotected?!? SEND IN THE CAVALRY my god lol. And against rams with troops in them? Use infantry or cavalry to destroy them and use archers to kill the troops that are inside. Harder to do if the enemy brings longer range siege weapons, so maybe use cavalry archers and cavalry to do that :) use foot archers and foot infantry on the front lines but be wary they do not get hit by towers or long range siege. Also boats are an AWESOME siege weapons or deliverers :D

@intensebug the rams can hold them in while they batter down the walls, since the towers behind will just shoot them, in fact bring other siege weapons to help crush the towers while the rams batter down the walls, then when the walls are gone, eject the troops and protect the rams so you can use them to destroy more buildings on the inside,

actually, compared to some battles ive fought on this game, this is nowhere near bloody. one time on death match vs the computer, all 8 civilizations collided in the center. there were so many dead bodies, I could hardly see the ground in some parts of the battlefield

seriously you're comparing AoE2 to CoD5? First of all AoE2 is a 12 year old or so game, next to one that came out recently. And AoE2 is a strategy so your comparing apples to oranges. Afterall, AoE2 is a classic, many people still play it - CoD5 will die out when people move on to the next installment. Not saying CoD5 is bad (I love it) but its your 'bread and butter' shooter.

i like to use hunnic/mongol warfare techniques

get a bunch of fully upraged calvary archers/mangudai

make sure to destroy all enemy buldings that can attack or at least the important ones like castle and town center

then attack with the archers

kill everything possible and retreat asap

then come back with those forces and calvary and/or siege weapons

well i always use this technique.......a lot of archers fully upgraded in the fron line of them i put champions or hallbuldiers and at the back of them either 2 or 3 heavy seige onagers..and i put them to stand ground stance and i also put 2/3 monks with them.....near them i place some paladins.....and this makes a gr8 attack for me

WAYY too many casualties. I try to kill my enemies with less than 50 casualties total, including siege.

Lure them out, and do a drive by with horse archers. Since your British and not JAPANESE with samurais, you can use longbowman to pick off any remaining enemies.

Charge the onagers in small groups of fast units, such as paladins. Heck, you got onagers yourself!

Too many unnecessary casualties. Lure enemy troops to leave fort through the gate by attacking them with catapult, then send a soldier to stand in gate whilt, slowly firing and advancing catapult, taking enemy out one or two at a time. the knight will take care of the enemy catapults.
