First of all... it's demands strategy. Second of all, you need strength to sweep fast and put a lot of pressure on the ice with the broom. Third of all... it needs a good team who know how to work together and agree with the strategy they choose.

Yes, for some it doesn't look like something that should be in the Olympics, but those people are more or less ignorant. Most people disagree that poker is a sport, but I don't hear many complaining, when some call it a sport?

It looks pretty odd, but... From what I've read and seen, the actual details that are happening are difficult if not impossible to see and understand, like how the sweep is changing the ice. Whereas, with most other sports, absolutely everything is obvious.

@Nongamblerpokerfan I'm a lead and I along with the second sweep a lot. In laymens terms making a rock go farther requires so much athletic ability, the stronger and more in shape you are in the farther the rock goes. I am in very good shape and at the end of a long game i'm sweating a storm.

Hey, I'm from Brazil and enjoy curling games at the Olympics and some championships I watch. At some places here in Brazil, we play "Bocha" a sport very similar to Curling, but instead of a terget, you have a little ball thrown by a player at the beginning of the game.

@Traconiz makes the stone travel further. They say up to 20ft further than without sweeping. It also reduces the curl (keeps the stones line much straighter)

I think we can agree that a gold medal in Curling is unlikely to result in boasting rights or a lucrative contract with CNN.

People who curl usually work normal jobs and needless to say, unlike most, have a high level of talent in a sport which attracts decent numbers of spectators. If you disagree, why not suggest to the IOC that the ultimate winter athlete be determined in an event called 'Who can stand barefoot in the snow the longest'? I agree that it's hard, but it should not be a sport, it's a recreational activity. It takes skill, but it's really something that anyone (whether in great shape or not) can achieve. There are olympic athletes, and then there are curlers. I have nothing against curling, just as I have nothing against bowling, or chess. They are all sports, but I think it is time the plank for an olympic sport be raised a bit.
