@dinosaurzez dont fuck with me Dino boy, to be considered an athlete you have to be conditioned and fit, these mofos look like their conditioning programm consists of Lube and 5 minutes spare time.. peace out dinoo
@bumsebienefresh idk about the american team but the canadians work out every day and their training is just as hard as any athlete. lol the americans are fat normally no? Also I guess baseball players aren't athletes, or a shitload of other sports for that matter.
i love how these jerks were lucky enough to be born into a family were they didnt have to work to make ends and were able to practice sports for a lifetime to be able to play at that level on the olympics. just sad that they have to act like brats.
First of all... it's demands strategy. Second of all, you need strength to sweep fast and put a lot of pressure on the ice with the broom. Third of all... it needs a good team who know how to work together and agree with the strategy they choose.
Yes, for some it doesn't look like something that should be in the Olympics, but those people are more or less ignorant. Most people disagree that poker is a sport, but I don't hear many complaining, when some call it a sport?
@xJG91x That sweeping is actually a lot harder than it looks. You have to put a fair amount of force to create friction with the ice and have to move it quickly for it to work.
@scorpioninpink My point was NOT about American, Canadian, or any other country's sport. My point was about the definition of "sport" and to not judge something before experiencing it.
Litlemidget: And my comment was also to let omglooteater know to not judge before knowing what something is......since curling is considered a bonafide sport, and since it does take skill, precision, and strategy, then it is a "real" sport. I was commenting infavor of curling, so please try not to assume that everyone here is bashing curling. I'd love to learn curling, as it appears that the incredible balance is needed.
Litlemidget:, I must respectfully request that you read my post again, as I was responding to nongamblerpokerfan's comment. He said that most sport defeat curling, and I responded that the definition of "sport" connotates skill and precision. If there's anyone that thinks that curling take skill, i do think it takes much skill. I'm a Tai chi instructor that hears too many comments about how its not a "real" martial art, but it IS. which is why I respect curling for its precision
It looks pretty odd, but... From what I've read and seen, the actual details that are happening are difficult if not impossible to see and understand, like how the sweep is changing the ice. Whereas, with most other sports, absolutely everything is obvious.
let's define "sport"..... "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc"
@rustydj you think it doesnt take skill to accurately push the stone exactly where u want it? No difference than a pitcher training for baseball, a quarterback training to throw a football...
@Nongamblerpokerfan I'm a lead and I along with the second sweep a lot. In laymens terms making a rock go farther requires so much athletic ability, the stronger and more in shape you are in the farther the rock goes. I am in very good shape and at the end of a long game i'm sweating a storm.
@melovetorun who says a olympic sport can't be funny? i think its funny because it looks so epic when the people al doing that with the broom thing, it just looks so cute and funny, but i respect the fact that its a olympic sport ofcourse ;)..
Hey, I'm from Brazil and enjoy curling games at the Olympics and some championships I watch. At some places here in Brazil, we play "Bocha" a sport very similar to Curling, but instead of a terget, you have a little ball thrown by a player at the beginning of the game.
Never EVER make fun of curling or one day you might enter your bedroom and see the entire German Curling Team holding baseball bats waiting for you...........
For all the haters, please shut the fuck up. "Why is it an olympic sport?" Why is hockey an olympic sport? Its just a bunch of guys with sticks and a round rubber thing. Curling i just a bunch of guys with brooms and round rocks. SEE ANY SIMILARITIES?! If you don't see the skill involved in curling then open your eyes you ignorant douche bags. And don't get me started on baseball, a sport where anyone of any size can play, fat and old.

If watching paint dry attracts a big crowd then the IOC may consider it a candidate demonstration sport.
Sport = money these days. It has evolved beyond the far-flung philosophies of rippling Greek men soaked in olive oil.
If you want 'real' sport, then take away the real money society pays athletes. When you make sport a profession then you open the Olympics up to anything the crowd wishes to pay to see!
@wolvekr3w I'd bet you like that, your fat lazy nascar, football watching ass would sure like that. You would burn alot of calories sweeping in curling tho.

umm i didnt get what the purpose of sweeping is. The dude talks a lil too fast in that part and english is not my native language. So i ask... whats the point of sweeping?
@Traconiz makes the stone travel further. They say up to 20ft further than without sweeping. It also reduces the curl (keeps the stones line much straighter)
I think we can agree that a gold medal in Curling is unlikely to result in boasting rights or a lucrative contract with CNN.
People who curl usually work normal jobs and needless to say, unlike most, have a high level of talent in a sport which attracts decent numbers of spectators. If you disagree, why not suggest to the IOC that the ultimate winter athlete be determined in an event called 'Who can stand barefoot in the snow the longest'? Why don't you try some reverse trolling and recommend Iaidō (居合道) for the next summer Olympics. The English are big on Japanese martial arts so there is a slim chance for this new demonstration sport category! But then again, he might not have progressed past bokken yet.

@samuraigraffix Curling is a sport, it requires walking fast and sweeping to make the stone move faster and balance which not many people have. The Ancient Greeks are dead and can't roll in their grave, lol.
