While you have your ripped body and most likely use it to your own advantage you make the rest of us guys feel like shit because we do what our own personal trainers do. I do heaps of cardio and it burns the fat big time. Problem is people like this guy who think they are the best, Truth be your not when you put people down.

  • You will only lose muscle from doing cardio, only if you do an extreme amount of cardio a day. Say you do about 8 hours of cardio a day, then you will lose muscle. But 1-2 a day of cardio will not lose muscle.

  • There are a few things WRONG there. Doing too much Cardio will cause Atrophy, which burns muscles. Weight training WILL NOT burn fat, only Cardio burns calories and stored energy in the body. The reason why these fitness models and body builders work out so many times a week is because THATS THEIR LIFE. And also they have best advice, food, supplements and sports messages after their workouts. And people don't want to buy your programme because it probably costs £500 and doesn't even work!

I got ripped and had visible 6-pack after two month of running lifting while my body lost only a little fat but got no way in the same shape as I got! how is that possible?? we started at the same fat level. and we trained always together, beside each other wether on the track or on thegym and yet I got way faster in shape??

  • there is some truth in it..depends where you are in your fitness..for the very overweight then lots of cardio everyday is going to strip the fat off fast...for the fit and closer to 8% weight training helps..along with HIT. Keep it real and change what cardio you are doing...In the world on incremental gains its about trail and error.

  • as far as calories burned for those that dont know (and i didnt :P) say you burn 300 calories on a treadmill, thats TOTAL calories, which includes calories that keep you alive if you were to rest.. you only actually burn around 100-150. Weight training is the best way to burn fat. 1 lbs of muscle burns 50 cals a day.. however HIIT creates a oxygen deficit which is like the afterburn of weight training.. (im sure most of you knew this already!)

  • You burn 2K calories a day just by being alive if you're a man. So even if you lose 500 cal a day that's 3500 a week. then If you only eat 1500 Cal a day that's another 3500 cal a week. You could lose 2 lbs a week easy. Then if you do weights or have a physical job that's even more cal per week. Eat less, move more. It's just math.

  • @bucketzakkdimetconn I recommend it. I do HIIT on my off days from lifting.  Do about 10 to 20 minutes of hit and that's all you need. Don't need minutes upon minutes of cardio. Remember to drink a protein-shake, or eat a carb-source before doing hit--waiting 30 to an hour before doing it of course. Doing cardio on an empty stomach is damaging to anyone lifting weight and want to retain that muscle.

  • Fast fat loss is not healthy at all, 1pund per week is very good performance. I guarantee that if you do 1 hour a day cardio as you want (enjoying, socializing and ETC) you will be more happier than doing incense "killer" workout, you will be healthy and happy. May be you wont have 6 pack abs (8-10% body fat is healthy, but it is good results also), but you look attractive enough with smile in your face... Keep it real, Fitness models and body boulders woking not for joy.

  • I did a lot of cardio around xmas time and I lost 15 pounds but when I did a body test, its was mostly lean mass that I lost. I pretty much fucked my body up doing it and my biceps and chest have never looked the same since. Screw cardio, just lift weights and do the step master. I prefer doing low speed high resistance exercises like binking with high resistance, walking on the treadmill at a steep incline and the step master.

  • I used to do cardio for 4 - 5 hours a day. I was a dancer. I still enjoy a lot of cardio now. My muscles were and are strong. I have friends who use the elliptical, they aren't fat either. Just because my muscles don't bulk and my body fat isn't at some seriously low number it doesn't mean I'm not strong. I can walk upside down, flip etc. My heart is healthy, I'm small, quick and flexible. People are too concerned with how 'ripped' they look in my opinion.

  • Cardio by itself with a low calorie diet will cause muscle loss. Best way to lose fat effectively is by high intensity weight training, carbohydrate restriction, caloric deficit, ADEQUATE protein intake (very important), and BE CONSISTANT!

  • @babyboy0704502 I'm going to assume you're trying to trade fat for muscle. Do interval training or 3 20 or 30 minute high intensity cardio sessions a week. If you do high intensity cardio on an empty stomach AND ARE NOT IN KETOSIS, you will lose muscle. This is because your body can't metabolize fat easily with glycogen present. Overnight fasting won't deplete the stores. It takes about 2-3 days of low carbing to enter ketosis.

Building muscle is a progressive process. Fat loss is the byproduct of lifting weights and following a reduced calorie diet. All cardio does is builds more capillaries, makes the heart pump better, and the lungs more efficient. You need all three for the synergistic effect: weight, diet, and cardio.

  • I don't think cutting cardio out completely is a good idea if you're looking to cut down on your fat. I have seen plenty of guys at the gym who do mad weights and definitely have some muscle. They have no definition though 'cause they have a lot of fat covering up their muscles. They would definitely benefit from some cardio to reduce their fat percentage.

You have to signal to your body to keep the metabolism up and get it's energy from fat stores. Unfortunately, we can't just tell it. We have to stimulate it. If you look in the gym at all the people doing cardio, they look like hamsters.

  • @joszna90 Not lots of meat. You only need about 50 to 80 grams of protein (FROM AN ANIMAL SOURCE) a day to survive. And if you keep weight lifting, you will maintain muscle. If you want to build muscle though, you have to up the protein intake and up the intensity of your routine. If you want to lose fat, cut out carbs as much as you can.

  • Lol this answers my question. Last year I use to do around 126 pushes in a row and now I can only do around 81. I did a lot of Cardio last year and this year I am doing a lot of weight lifting. Sucks I found this information now =/

    i jog at a fast pace(almost running) for 10 min and then do about 1.5 - 2 hours of weight training and then jog again for 10 min at the end of my workout + i also walk for 5 min at the end after my jog to cool down

    I run for 35 mins and then focus on 1-1.5 hr of weights..

If you want to lose weight fast than burn off more calories than you take in(helps if you don't eat too many) since once your bodies run out of calores to burn your body will start to break down fat for energy. Only once your body has no more fat will it startto break down lean muscle for energy, so don't worry about losing muscle mass!

  • Hey shit head you burn 300 cals per hour on a treadmill ect. but 1 POUND of muscle burns 30-50 cals an hour everyday. NONSTOP! [E.G. 50 x 1= 50; 50 x 24 hrs = 1200] Even if you only burned 20 cals an hour from 1 lb of muscle you'd still lose more than just cardio alone.

    THE TRUTH IS YOU NEED BOTH and not one or the other. If its true that targeting one area doesnt work, then why would targeting one type of exercise work better?

    I lost 10 in 26 days and muscle are more define so i think you're right. Resistance training is the way to go.

  • Well I have a question..I do cardio once a week for about 1 hour.. and i wieght train everyother day of the week, im not really trying to burn fat from cardio cause atm im 5'7 9% body fat and 185lbs, am i still stripping away muscle from doing that cardio? and is it alot? i'm doing cardio simply for training for army and what-not, im pretty confused now.lol :S

    Interval or sprint training allowed you to keep your muscles because your body is not under stress for a long time...and it burns calories which prevents your from getting ballon face and a pot belly.....then it trains your cardiovascular health....

    that's why a lot of people do sprint training...and from what i see you're in a very peak conditions...so why do you do long slow cardio??

  • cardio is good but if you don't go anaerobic and don't get that lactic acid going, you will never have the response of anabolic growth hormones AND you will not burn calories AFTER your workout! So make sure you get the lactic acid going!!!!

  • Cardio is nothing bad at all. Get that out of your mind folks.The people who don´t run because they claim that it is bad for muscle building are just lazy. Sure if you wanna run a marathon under 3 hours you would probably loose some musclemass, but it would be because you wouldn´t have time for any weightlifting and would need to be slim. But other than that cardio is good. I´ve become alot stronger in the gym since I started doing cardio.
