Cloud computing are servers in different locations ( world wide locations). It will evolve into a cloud like electronic firmament of data redundant on a global scale. You will never have data privacy again. It can be hardwired into every PC and may well be already. China is no dummy and we used a LOT of chips made there. Cloud Computing is simply alerting us to it. Cloud Computing works like a virus with data but for the preservation and retreival of the data.

Go ahead dump your personal info in the cloud so hackers can intercept the data MAN IN THE MIDDLE ATTACK! or a worm get's on the database and wipes out the hard drives and your data, you can't retrieve it becasue the cloud doesn't have backup service that's your responsibility xD. CLOUD FAILS!

Sure, it's all good as long as the cloud didn't get hacked or screw up. This kind of computing environment remind me of the movie TERMINATOR, where Skynet is the cloud. When Skynet went crazy, the whole world got waisted. I am skeptical regarding this type of system. When you mention government, it reminded me of communism, where one government controls all. Cloud computing would be the communist of all computer technology.

@killervalonz it most certainly is an metaphor. "Cloud Computing" is the metaphor because you are not really doing computing in a literal cloud.
