@nickeftink Gave up in February. Couldn't even get to play Bb trumpet in a local amateur orchestra. Not good enough so no point flogging a dead horse!
No such thing as a 'real' pic for under $250. Stick with Schilke, Kanstul, Yamaha, Selmer Paris or Stomvi. The 'eBay specials' for $250 are truly horrible horns. Learning pic trumpet is hard, it is even worse with a bad horn.
the articulations are a bit too violent.they should sound a bit more warmer especially when you have a turnage piccolo trumpet.they have a softer more warmer tone
Nice and crisp with some cool mordents. Though the high "E" is quite a bit flat when you do the 16th note sequence to the high "G." It almost sounds like a "bluesy" version. Perhaps you could use alternate fingerings?
hello as this my English is not very good he/she wanted to greet him and to congratulate him for the execution class that shows in its video and he/she wanted to know if a trumpet exists the one which me cuentran brings a key like that of the saxophones that allows him octavear with alone to press the piston or button
I have always been interested in getting a piccolo trumpet, although I am wondering about how the tone would sound in comparison to playing the same note on a regular trumpet. Also would the fingerings be the same? seeing as they are 4-valved.
The tone is thinner than a big trumpet due to it being shorter. The first three valves are the same as a normal trumpet and you would start by just using those. The fourth valve is the same as the 1+3 combination and you use it for notes like low D (4 instead of 1+3) or C# (2+4 instead of 1+2+3). Then you use it for the notes below low G so low F is 1+4, low E is 1+2+4 etc. Those notes could not be played without a fourth valve. Especially the low Concert D, which is an F.
Thanks for the response! Would you be able to recommend any brands for me? I might get one, but if I do, I want to be able to get a good one and not a "cheap-o" horn.
I would recommend trying to find a used Getzen one. Make sure its one with four valves. Thats what I started on. You can also get good used Benge and Yamaha ones.
What's the deal with rotary valves. I like my trumpet with its piston valves but people seem to like rotary valves. Do rotary valves overcome the tuning issues of piston valves(the needed use of triggers and throws) or are they just a useable alternative?
Thats a bit like recommending what size of shoe you should wear. Its best to get advice from a teacher and try lots of different sizes to see which gives you the best sound, flexibility and intonation.
The purpose of the picolo trumpet is to make it easier to differentiate the notes in the mid and upper register. For example if you play in the upper register on a Bb trumpet everything feels close together, often its the same valve fingerings for notes that are right next to each other. On the piccolo trumpet the partials ae further apart and you can play much more delicately in the upper register. The piccolo trumpet will not let you play any higher than you can on Bb trumpet.
I to am a trumpet player. I like your playing, we all know that we have things to work on. I tip my hat to anyone who plays trumpet, not matter the level of play. A difficult instrument to be sure!! Thanks for your video.
Too fast for you... therefore you need to play all notes legato because you have a poor tonguing. Work more, always pianissimo, to listen the "holes" in some notes. Learn various tonguings.
@ uhtaf: It is possible though the range of a Bb trompet usually isn't higher than the high C.. you know, the one above the staff. It's possible to play beyond that range, but that's very difficult. Because the piccolo trumpet is half as long, these high notes are in the mid-range of the instrument. So yes, you can get in the range of the piccolo trumpet, but it requires a great amount of skill. (search for James Morrison on youtube)
Uhtaf, though the high C is usually the top note (required in most pieces or played) by most typical Bb trumpet players, it IS possible to play much higher (as seen by Maynard and James Morrison). I think my record is getting close to a double C on the Bb trumpet. Something that must be noted though- I find it a lot harder to play piccolo trumpet than my Bb because it seems to cut off when you put too much air through it ;). Maybe it's just me. Keep playing and working at it- you can do it!
Hmm, well, I haven't met anyone who can play higher on picc than they can on Bb. If you can't play a high C on Bb comfortably, then an F on picc would be out of the question.
Is that one a Scherzer? It's such a fluid sound! I like it.
muy bueno!!! excelente!! Saludos de Peru

Buckfutter1000 6 months ago
@Buckfutter1000 Virtually anything is better than what comes in the box, but don't go for anything too shallow. Start with a 7C and work from there.

@hostroute thanks, how much do they usually run for?

@hostroute Try Ebay. A good used one will not be expensive.

@hostroute What? You're going to give up just because of a bunch of internet blokes told you that you're not good at playing? Why?

WHICH REMINDS ME...
You know those people who have a hole in the front of their throats what they use to breathe through? I have a QUES-tion...
Have any of you ever experienced seeing someone play a trumpet (well or otherwise) by putting the mouthpiece up against their throat hole?
