Always, I say always have a certified Rolex watch repairman/jeweler work on your watches. Unless you're a millionaire and thus can afford to fudge up your watches.
I've never tried installing the insert while the bezel was on the watch. I mostly work on the vintage ones that don't click so u don't need to line it up. Good tip for the saphire models though. I will try that next time.
Cool tutorial. I use plastic wedges. Used a knife the first time. No damage, but never again. It just felt dodgy as hell. One slip is all it takes. There is a plastic tool made by Snapon, the PBN2 non-marring prybar which works a treat and will not scratch your watch. They're hard to get hold of here in England though. Cool how you got the bracelet off so fast. I'm reluctant to try it as I know people who can't get it back on and have to constantly use a nato. Peace!
I was at a jeweler earlier today,I was quoted $60 to do this simple change.they wanted to
Pressure test it as well, they said the seal might be nicked in the process.I was also quoted $40 at another jeweler,no pressure test, had to be sent out.
Thank you Thank you. My bezel on my 1988 submariner was jammed. You were right ,the spring popped out on me. It took some work but it is fine now. A little tricky liming the washer with the bezel ring. Are the green bezels on e-bay OK and is there a difference between the 16800-1 and the 16800-2 as they list the replacement bezels?
Wasn't it hard to get a Rolex black bezel insert for a green LV? Isn't Rolex famous for keeping their watches as per original? How much did it cost if direct from Rolex ( I'm Canada too, eh). Also, are the new ceramic ones just as easy to do? Much thanks.
I have a Rolex Submariner green model 16610 LV. I am sick and tired of the green bezel and would like to change to black. Do you where I can find a good black bezel after market part?
I understand that this is Rolex policy now, for a couple of years at least. I was fortunate because my AD is also an authorized service center and given my history with this dealer, they did this for me as a favour, but they were sure to explain that this isn't allowed and not to share with anyone where I got it from. They do come up occassionally on Ebay and other watch sales boards. Good luck.
I'd recommend taping up the watch before attempting a bezel change or realignment so as to avoid scratches.
Tape the lugs and any metal blade used to remove the bezel. I'd do all of that on a cloth which I'd also use as a blanket so you don't loose the wire clicker. Finally I'd put the new insert into the bezel off the watch, align it and then snap both back on. This will give you a better alignment with the 12 o'clock markers.
What are you having trouble with? Note, I tried doing this with a 'quality" aftermarket bezel once on my Rolex GMT, but it was a huge pain in the butt. The proper Rolex parts (like what I used in this video) are very firm and will not bend out of shape, so they litterally 'click' into place like you see in my video....I didn't use any special effects, honest :) If you need help, send me a message direct to my email address in my profile. I'll try to help. Thanks, JP
Great clip JP. Came across a link from TZ, rolex-modern. Very nicely done, thanks for sharing. The only thing I do differently is use a plastic 'tool' for the initial bezel removal in an effort to not scratch anything with a metal bladed knife. Your hands must be steadier than mine :)
great video, i just got a non date sub and i wanted to watch this video for future reference in case the bezel gets scratched . Also you timed the whole thing with your speedy :) . I kept going between buying the speedy and the sub for so long...
nice vid, the omega seamaster, iv got a gmt co-axial version. been trying to get my bezel of to put a new one on but i cant, apparently theyr really tight., can you help.??
I watched my watchmaker change the bezel on the Seamster Bond, which is the same style you mention, but he used a bezel remover. They are much more difficult to remove. If you only want to change the insert, it's pressure fitted and you may be able to pry it off without removing the bezel, but be careful not to scratch your crystal The new insert would then just be pressed into the bezel itself. However, I recommend you a get a pro to do it, as it's relatively cheap to get done. Good luck
after the rolex he did not had money left for a decent camera ^^
