You have to "buy" the ability. Re-play the tutorial, that should show you how to do it.

My controls are so unresponsive sometimes. I tried so many times on this one to avoid alarms but i always ended up with atleast one because my x key didn't do what it was supposed to. And don't say it was because i'm a n00b and i was still walking, i checked all the controls for functionality and it still screwed up in ideal conditions

it's a pain in the ass trying to perfect this one, you can't flashbomb out of the level so you have to alt+f4 out and i hate the boiler room guy

If you want to restart you can just fail the torture sequence, you'll get sent back to your HQ.

Well, I use a gamepad to play AoT (via the Logitech Profiler) and strangely enough I can never finish this sequence unless I switch to keyboard... With the keyboard I manage to do it every time.

By the way, the brainwashing reminds me of a similar button masher in Metal Gear Solid, and they certainly have one thing in common -- both are a "torture" in more ways than one.

i think that was the point in mgs for it to accually b painful/tiring idk what diff u did it on but exteme that area was brutal if u didnt submit
