  • too much movie

  • I was wondering if there is a Portuguese influence in the regional fighting skills of the Indo Malay region? I ask this as the Portuguese seem to have been very active in Asia and perhaps learned from the indigenous people and perhaps exchanged skills.

  • @gaperiott well, in malaysia, there is weapon called `keris panjang` (long keris), the weapon was created to counter the european rapiers(that is excellent in reach). rapiers and kerises are stabbing weapons. dont know about the tecs switch.

  • Wonderful skills - fluid and unrelenting, I like!

  • look up silek tuo, oldest known silat style, for origins of most s.e asian styles

  • this may have been asked is this the same as kali?

  • @tlcem075 yes, and read tapap comment please

  • pls upload more videos tnx...

  • the reason these arts are similar is they all have the same root-they came across from india durin the sriprivit conquerin,it started with sumatra, mingankabau was capital and spread thru sth east asia as far as vietnam. It was a mixture of greek, persian and indian, then local arts were mixed in e.g thai kuciang style,cat-cambodian bokator,tiger-if you study silek tuo then fma you will see the difference-the further from sumatra u go the less groundfightin u will find, more standup

  • @all this is the importance we learn other things(such as history) rather than kicking some oneelse butt in MA. Kali is silat, it just another tagalog name for it, at the begining of the footage you can see how close filipine to the malayan region, infactcentral and southern filipino is relatively `malayan` region, read the history and youll find that those region was under the malayan sultanate before the spaniard came.

  • @Activity150 hahaha! Is that why he's so good?! I was wondering why I can't look that awesome.

  • @Activity150 Comparing fighting methods is senseless crap. Got it. You make a lot of sense. : /

  • @Activity150 I have to disagree. I love training and fighting ( Balintawak, Wushu, Bjj ) but I also like to learn about their histories and evolution too. To learn about how Balintawak evolved from the corto linear Doce Pares is fascinating. I want to know more about Silat other than, ummm...... they do knife stuff.

  • Thanks for being so consistently awesome.

  • @Activity150 Comparing and contrasting different fighting methodologies is stupid?

  • @fangjian we are malayo polinesian or austranesian race. there only have manila sultanate, mindanao sultanate n sulu sultanate at the past before the name of filipino exist. sulu sultanate is covering from deep south filipino and northern sabah in now malaysia. all of those sultanates have link with bruneian sultanate or we can say all of those sultanate is bruneian sultanate legacy.

  • @fangjian i have read about tatang history that he live from children with many tribes at southern filipino even in some part of island in indonesia that borders with southern filipino.some of the tribes are tausug, suluk, bisaya, iranun, bajau etc. he have learned with many fighting styles from those warrior tribes including grappling n groundfighting. the conclusion is silat, kali, pencak, silek, maenpo, main senjata, mpa sila, benjang, bahempas, gedou etc is the same as root from austranesian.

  • i dont think mauls movements are less refined just using a wider sweep.

he moves very much like edgar sulite did when practicing illustrisimo.

maul is so good now i would love to see him at 80 .

  • @tennytigers Sorry . 'refined' maybe not the word I was intending. Tatang's movements are I assumed might have been a bit smaller because of his age. At least it seams to me when I watch martial artists who are older (any style) they're movements are a bit more subtle. Naturally.

  • Wow. Looks so similar to Ilustrisimo sword style

  • Comment removed

  • @fangjian as much as i like maul,i find his movements to be much larger and with less controled than those of tatang or tony diego.

  • @tennytigers

    Very perceptive. Yes.

Do you think it is because Tatang's movement were just a bit more refined? I would bet Maul's movements regarding his sword technique may resemble Tatang's 'flavor' as he ages. Or do you think that I'm WAY OFF, hehehe?

  • Love it. Truth in movement for those with the eyes and mind to understand. Maybe some day.

  • Blazing video !!! Excellent technique !!!

  • Great footage as usual!!!!

  • but Maul is from the future right? lawl. Great vid!

  • Sweet Blade.
