  • Do you think it is safe (for vegetables) to drain out the water in the tank into a vegetable garden using a water hose without waiting the 1/2 hour for the chlorine to dissipate from the water? It would be much faster than having to drain it into a bucket first and wait the 1/2 hour. Thanks.

  • @pilgrimstranger3 Remember the water should out gas for 3 to 4 hours not a 1/2 hour. I think that you would be okay using chlorinated water in a veggie garden as long as you were placing it in the soil and not directly on the vegetation. I think the chlorinated water might give your plants chemical burns if you didn't allow it to out gas first. The best approached would be to test it on a small portion of your garden or a potted plant to see its effects. If you do please let me know the outcome.

  • Thanks for the info. I will soon be doing an experiment with storing water in 5 gallon buckets.

  • Prepare for earthquakes. Sucure your supplies. Good video. Thank you.

  • Is it safe to fill the tank with a regular garden hose, or is there some special more safe water hose you can buy to fill up the tank? Thanks.

  • @pilgrimstranger3 The stock chlorine will disinfecting the water regardless. However I bought a RV type fill hose for this tank. You can find them at Walmart, they are usually yellow in color to designate drink water purposes.

  • you know you should of compared current tap to storage and then actually tested it with a ph strip

  • @matoxewu I'm not really expecting to have pH strips or buffering adjustment solutions in SHTF or WROL. This is an experiment in the sterilization of water and how long it will stay clean and clear with one treatment of stock chlorine. This water is drawn from a well and unlike city water it has not been treated for pH. City water has buffering additives to control pH levels which in turn helps to prevent the effects of corrosion in distribution pipes. It is not added to benefit the consumer.

  • Are you testing for free chlorine? That's going to do more than any eyeball or nose test.

  • @mrmaigo This study is being done under the premise that water test kits will not be available during WROL, SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, depression or catastrophe.

  • @okieprepper I get that, but it's good to be sure you're getting it right. Something catastrophic could happen to your supply and you'd simply not know you need to start filtering till you're all sick.

  • @mrmaigo YES I'm sure! Try doing your own research on how chlorine evaporates from water a gas. I not sure you get this process and purpose of this study. If suspected my water was contaminated after a catastrophe I would filter it through a Berkey filter just as I stated in the beginning of the video.

  • AMAZING!

  • AHHH FOUND IT THANKS!!!

  • Thanks for this!

  • Storing water in our area of Oklahoma is important not just for prepping but for the fact the oil field companies contaminate our farm/rural wells from fracking services. We have failed several EPA water tests due to nitrates from fertilizer run off related to the wheat farmers who dump anhydrous ammonia on the fields when sowing the fall crop. Thanks, Prepper - meet you this summer at medic update?

  • @OUARNP You are definitely in the know about our rural water. Anhydrous is injected into soils as a gas. I thought they did that to prevent it from getting into the water table. Fracking wells should be outlawed. There is more than enough proof to prove it's contaminating the water table. I haven't been to a medic update since about 2004. My EMS Co stopped paying us to go so I have lost interest in it. I'm a veteran of the EMS field and now I spend my time doing things with my family.

  • Hey I appreciate your videos keep em coming! It's always better to have more information than less information about water treatment and experiments, so yeah keep the videos coming please!

  • @okieprepper Yes, it seems to help with the algae growth. Great video my brother! Very nice :)

  • Just one question in one of the videos you said you would only treat the water you replaced ? would you treat it in a different container of put into the 250 to treat it. i would like to think in a different one. but, sometimes you never know.i would think if you used the 250 you would want to re-treat all of it. i was thinking if you put un -treated water into the treated one that would contamated the clean water

  • @fireman3437 - I added the water back to the tank first and then the appropriate amount of chlorine. Tap water is already clean so its not a big deal. It was just easier to refill with a hose versus a bucket since the tank is over 8' tall. However if I had to refill with contaminated water such as rain run off or pond water, I would purify it separately before adding it back to the tank. I would probably run water like that through a Black Berkey filter first. Hope that helps.

  • Great channel, I was at the one year mark as of Dec 3rd with two 30gal drums using chlorine method. Just for the sake of seeing if it was any good, it was still clear but ran it through a Pur filter after letting it sit for a hour, just tasted a little flat. I ended up making several batches of ice tea from it, emptied, dried & refilled. I store them in a dark cool basement away from sunlight.

  • @hallard069 A year is good to hear. Did you ever add additional chlorine? Thanks for sharing the info.

  • @okieprepper No additional chlorine. I just got into a habit of refilling it every year on a certain date, I should do it during the summer to water the garden.

  • Hope your house sells , And just found your channel, great vids, ill keep watching. Thanks.

  • I live off grid and have catchment tanks for water supply. What I have done for my smaller plastic tanks is spray paint them black to stop the algae growth.

    Good video :) Thanks!

  • Imagine doing an update on this water tank in 100 weeks :P

  • @JustFresh099 Thats not so far off, in fact I'm looking forward to it if the water remains clear.

  • That is awesome my friend. Man, that tank looks sooooo clean and nice! I have an 80 gal food grade black tank, and it looks like black gold, Texas tea... lol I can't see anything. You know I will run mine with the chlorine and the Berkey! I got a new extra Imperial Berkey so I will put it to work. Your videos rock dude! Thanks for sharing with us buddy. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family! I am doing the last minute stuff and stopped for coffee to watch. ;-)

  • Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year , GOD Has Blessed You With A Beautiful Family

  • Great video !!

Feel free to post it on our site under water.

  • Great vid, good to see that the Chlorine is working for you.

  • I appreciate you sharing your perspective and efforts.

  • that water looks great.good job....good luck on the farm can't wait to see it....merry Christmas to you and your family brother..........and thanks for the shout out

  • Thanks for the shoutout Okie. Good luck on the new house. Theres nothing like country living.

  • The easy way to de-chlorinate and aerate your water is to drip it from a vessel to your serving jug. I've used this method (single pass) to prepare water into liquor for beer brewing for the mash, sparge and brew top-up. My containers have taps but I imagine a pin hole in a plastic jug will do.

  • Good Info. A+

    Congrats on the house thing.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. =)

  • Thanks for taking time to post this valuable information. Smiles

  • I would not hesitate to drink that water. The aquarium situation you mention is a totally different environment, with lots of organic matter issues. Your water was clean going in, no subsequent exposure to anything except sunlight and possible temp. variations, plus you treated with chlorine. You're good to go. The only other thing you could do, is drape the side of the tank exposed to sunlight with a black cloth. Great video.

  • @katzcradul You know I thought about draping the tank, but for the experiment I wanted to see if the side next to the window would grow any algae over time. If it did grow something then at least I would know that draping the tank would be a must. Oh by the way I'm still checkin' my mail box daily for that jalapeno jelly! :)

  • @okieprepper Oh, man! You're not really gonna make me feel guilty on Christmas Eve! I got a new jerky gun and made some jerky with ground round. My only mistake was using the seasoning packet that came with the gun instead of mixing my own spices. The jerky came out beautifully it just was too salty. I'm going to try it again and was holding off on sending your jelly because I wanted to include some jerky. I don't have to go back to school until the 3rd so I'll get it made and in the mail.

  • nice work, getting fancy with the editing ;) have a merry christmas

  • Great video and nice production / editing!

  • Marry Christmas!!
