@830sxz It's for the people whose needs are not a black/white issue. If you just want a more spacious passenger cabin in the rear and don't necessarily want to have to get a 7 to facilitate that. You don't need the utility of a wagon or truck, but the folding seats are a plus. After driving and riding around in one over a week long vacation, I actually get it and like it. It's a luxury minivan for people who don't/won't have kids.

@taknachwile that's what I thought until I had one for a week, in white, with the options boxes all ticked, and uau! it's a really nice car, yes from the back it is not particularly beautiful, but I had seen uglyer cars than that. The front looks just nice.

And this is one of the very cars that proof that you've to see it in the flesh in order to say anything about it. pictures just doesn't do this justice.

Well BMW does 1,3 series too and they're not two tonnes.

Have test driven it and used it over several days. Engine is very strong and the thing just kept going even with a heavy load in the boot. At 80mph, it out accelerates most on the motorway. Car of the moment - at fuel stations no end of stares. One guy even went around the station a few times to look at it. It's stylish and has presence. Can't imagine what the 550i would feel like when the 530d is already strong.
