  • She kind of reminds me of Petula Clark with more range.

  • god,her voice gives me goose pimples

  • what a CLASSY Lady !

  • She looks well for 77 in this video. And that voice is absolutely unspoiled.

    Absolutely magnificnet

  • God bless her.Beautiful woman. with that incredible voice. So lovely to hear. also some of her music has been re-masterd and you really get to hear how clear and stunning her voice is.

  • When she passes,

she will be the end to the GREAT generation of men and women of all our time.

  • she wipes the floor with susan boyle

  • What an amazing voice for a 77 year old. Wonderful.

  • This is my friends auntie!!!!! no joke

  • @TheGamerPenguins bah shes my great secound cousin =D my dads mums cousin

  • she douns no different at all. AMazing

  • I'm 18 years old and I am crying my eyes out right now.. just thinking of our countrymen who never got the chance to meet again and especially my great grandpa.. He fought in WWII and every time she says "we'll meet again" I can't stop thinking about him... he passed away 2 years ago...

  • Absolutely lovely.

But a part of me cant help but see this as a sort of eulogy for Western civilization.

  • One of my favorite singers. Love Vera Lynn.

  • Even after all those years.... she's still got it !

  • We boomers are more or less responsible for the sorry state of the music industry today.... why can't we get more singers like Dame Lynn, et al., and bring back pretty music?! Hollywood Palace, Judy Garland Show, Dinah Shore, Patti Page, we need these types of songs to be shown on TV. I am so sick of the CRAP that on TV nowadays.... reality (ha!) show, filty animations, stand-up vulgar comics, BRING BACK THE BEAUTY OF OUR SHOWS, PLEASE>>>>>>

  • Magnificent!

  • Those songs are 40 years before my time, but this is music at its best. I have listened to this video dussins of time. Thank you for posting it.

  • I hope I meet a sweetheart like her one day...

    A true lady.

  • This is a nice Video

  • ok, Fred, I know we'll meet again some sunny day; and with more music to sing including this one! So, work out the kinks and give it a workout...We'll Meet Again Some Sunny Day, ok?

  • this lady apart from being the forces sweetheart had a fantastic time in the west end after the war followed by a great run on television and bless her she still makes apperances to support the british legion and help for heroes and now she is in her nineties she should'nt just be a dame she should be lady vera and the highest award the country can award her

  • my god, she's awesome. i never expected that from a 77 year old. love u vera xxxx

  • This is great.... thank you for posting this video!!!

  • This Lady was one of the Greatest singers ever to come along--particularly an inspiration during WW11.

  • Thinking about it, a lot of veterans of this time would of been her age and younger!

  • A one-off woman with a unique and warm voice - her niche in history is assured and she is an ever-green in all of our hearts.

  • She still sounds fantastic, gotta love Vera Lynn:)

  • What a great video of Dame Vera, singing so well at aged 77. Such inspiration, talent and elegance. We salute Dame Vera, there will never be another like her.

  • I just received a lovely letter from Dame Vera, after I wrote to congratulate her on her new album. What a really beautiful person she is and it makes us glad to be British! May she continue to lift our spirits!

  • @magic2uk Your'er an absolute marvel and more to the point THANK YOU!!! for giving us what we have today x x x x God be with you always x x x

  • I like Vera lynn, she can make anyone smile and sing along and shes still alive and kicking!

  • a true lady.. what a woman.

  • This makes me so proud Vera Lynn and the older generation truly were the greatest generation. Their bravery, spirit and hope is mesmerising if it had not been for British Men an Women including Vera I'm fairly certain totalitarianism, hatred and evil would have dominated our world. It's so nice that people of all ages can appreciate these sentiments its living proof that goodness and light are still evident in society.

  • gawd I cry my eyes out everytime she sings 'the white cliffs of dover'...never be another like her

  • i was lucky enough to be in the audience that day as i was also doing a show on the QE11, the same day (i have a clip of part of my show here on youtube) , the lady is just great. and a pleasure to work with

  • I totally agree with "sirpolopaul".... Quite an incredible voice for age 77!!! Sadly, so many "great" vocalists lose their pipes at a much earlier age.... Sinatra, Paul Anka, to name a few... Heard Jack Jones on TV-Land awards last week.... another voice which has so-far stood the test of time. Cheers to all...!!!

  • What a woman.. she helped get us through the war too!!

  • what a class act. i miss entertainers like her and I'm only 27!

  • @kuwinsitall i know what you mean im only 16 and i have her on my ipod :D in top 25 play list you dont get music like this any more :(

  • What a lady in every sense of the word. She represents all the best things about Britain and sang superbly. It is astonishing to know she was 77 at the time and would have sounded even better with the backing of a full swing band. Bless you, Dame Vera, and many happy returns.

  • Modern female singers eat your heart out. Her boobs were always covered, her skirts below her knee, and the fellas still swooned. Vera Lynn was a true lady!

  • She sings very well for her age that year! Her voice barely grew old! Respect!

  • who is the men that play the piano ?

    he is a great musician

i love bera lynn she is my favorite female viose from all the times

god she sing like an angel thanks for this video

  • My god, I sang 'It's a Lovely Day Tomorrow' in this concert (vid attached) but could not find a recording of Vera singing it... Oh and Blue Birds - the MD must have watched this clip. I learned to sing listening to Vera and Doris Day - massive talents - my heros.

  • Very nice, thanks for posting!

  • shame, shame, shame all you pop-chicks without voice, without dignity, without talents...

  • WHAT A VOICE SHE HAS...!!!

  • Hey, she bowed to the audience, then she curseyed. Was the Queen there? Was she singing along? This great lady (Vera Lynn) deserved a better band than these hotel lounge lizards, anyway. What, Cunard couldn't spring for a Swing-Era orchestra for an afternoon?

  • i agree. i can't believe that they had such a chintzy orchestra to celebrate the 50th anniversary of D Day.... She is magnificent. Cunard was NOT.

  • Bravo!

  • What a beautiful voice for someone that age!

  • That age? She´s younger than most of us

  • I LOVE the crowd shots with all the people singing. I envy the moment they were having!

  • I love Vera. Beautiful voice.

  • What a voice!!!

    Even at this age!!

    My sweetheart forever!!!

  • Fantastic,, really enjoyed looking at that. She still sings amazing. Only thing that struck me watching this, givin the occasion, I thought the band sounded like you'd here in a local bingo hall, been nice to have an original band sound like when she sang it during the war. Just my opinion, but still, really nice to watch and listen to, thanks for posting.

  • What a charming lady she is, and what a voice - still!

  • uhh i love her..

such a true singer in her soul and such great qualities that arent found today in any kind.

  • i would still do her

  • Wow! I like her voice better older. Let me be like her.

  • I

In the past I did´nt know when Pink Floyd sang: "....does anybody here remember Vera Lynn.." now I know her beautifull voice and her songs. - GREAT

  • Yes

  • war sucks her voice is sublime after all these years

  • A beautiful lady with class and a unique voice. I am of the younger generation and I am a big fan of Vera Lynn. Thank you for posting.

  • I have goose bump everytime I hear her song.. shes so lovely and very talented.. God bless her..

  • wow! still a beautiful voice

  • she sure has - is incredible

  • As children in WW2 we knew all her songs and we loved this gracious Lady ! Long may she be with us. God Bless Her!!

  • My dad was a guest of the Emperor on the Burmese Railway. Someone begged borrowed and stole parts and made a crystal radio. At great risk the men were led 2 at a time to hear 20sec of the BBC World Service to show them that the claims of the guards that Britain was collapsing were false. For his 20sec. my dad heard Therell be bluebirds What a boost.

  • Simply magnificent!!!

  • I remember sitting next to the radio with my Mum during WW2 in South Africa as a young child listening to Vera Lynn and Just knowing, as a child, that my Dad who was a prisoner of war would come home which he eventually did, not half the man that he was when he left the country

  • Sorry about your dad, but think how lucky you were to have your father back, many did not return home!

  • What a great voice! Marvelous strong lady!

  • my wife died last year, but we went through the war together, i,m 92 now, but feel 16, thank you sooooooooooooooooo much for posting her tunesyou made and old man verey happy :-)))

  • @magic2uk So sorry for your loss. Without wishing to sound patronising, how marvellous that you use you tube and the web. My parents lived through the war too. I was born in 64 so was fortunate not to have done. But the music, ah, well that is wonderful. I was widowed three years ago at 42, so do actually understand how important memories like this can be. Enjoy Vera and the like ;D

  • it makes me so happy to know that men with that much live in them still can find some confort in today´s society

    have a happy live...

  • @magic2uk dude 1 word Respect

  • @magic2uk i am sorry for your lose. May she be with god. this song is brilliant i think.

  • @magic2uk

    lol your 24 :P

  • @magic2uk i,m sorry 2 hear that m8 best wishes 2 u

  • @magic2uk's Youtube might say 24, but how do you people know he's not really 92? even if he was 92, you all should show respect for the eldest anyways

  • @magic2uk Your profile says you are 25 and are a Katie Melua fan. How many 92 year-olds would write "soooooooooo" with an emoticon??

  • that was great - she still had her lovely voice - even at that age

  • This actually brought tears to my eyes!

    XXX

  • i wanna give her a big hug, she's awesome for 92!!!....my gran love this :-=)))

  • She deserved a big band behind her !!...You can't fake that find of powerful voice, wish you could say that about most of today's singer.

  • Even for me, a 39 year old Dutch man, she is the archetype of freedom, liberation, hope and proud. My parents were children when Holland was liberated but the still can tell us all the beautiful stories about the Tommies, Canadiens and American soldiers. Knowing that I am a child of Freedom and democracy thanks to YOU and hearing Vera, touches me deeply. Thank You.

  • I agree completely. I hadn't discovered the beauty of Dame Vera until about 9 years ago, when I got one of her CDs and, I confess I don't know why, I found it very moving...and still do. She looks great here. By the way, the Dutch people are perhaps the bravest, most soft-spoken, wonderful group of people I've ever had the pleasure to have met. This coming from a 39-year-old American. Cheers!

  • how can this video possibly move a 41 year old man to tears? We'll meet again was the first song i learned all the words to. It will always remain my firm favourite. I'd love to meet this great great lady one day. Vera you did us proud and always will.

  • OMG I was hoping it was going to be "We'll Meet Again" (I'm a big Pink Floyd fan), but this is great! Is she lip synching? (it sounds that good.)

  • play your cds when I go to bed at night. Especially love your

recording of Cinderella Stay In My Arms- with Ambrose and

His orchestra. Keep recording. Long Live Vera Lynn...

  • so many memories of the war! let's its dont' happen again , god bless her, serious has the ~X factor, i wish i could give a cuddle to her and say thank you, and i still can't belive she's 92 ._))))

  • Your songs always give me goose flesh as they remind me of my parents who have ong passed away. My father was in the army and he and mother used to sing your songs so often that i learnt them by heart. I was a 1948 baby. You are great Dame vera Lynn and well done for being the number ONE in the charts. May God Bless you all! Magda Magri Naudi > Malta

  • very nice, great voice

  • She is magical. She captures a time and place. They fought for us and she sang for us.

  • This is wonderful. I'm so pleased that in 2009, she's getting some belated modern attention with her #1 album in the UK at age 92 or so. I hand't seen this preformance before (when she was 77) but it's a reminder of the music I learned from my late parents and grandparents. Us younger folks (UK and over here in America) have a lot to learn...Thanks for the posting!

  • OMG i cant believe she has a great voice STILL shes incredibly the best STILL and shes 92-94 not sure completely but anyways GREAT VOICE EVER

  • Was that Sir John Mills at 5.41 ??????

  • Certainly looks like it.

  • Sure it was mate....

  • 92 still going strong . and looks oh so young

  • GREAT!

  • 77??? This voice sounds more like from a woman who is 47!!!!!!! I can't believe I hear a 77 year old voice singing so powerful with such a crisp and young-sounding voice. What a professional!

  • Bravo! Amazing lady...Amazing voice! God bless her :)

  • Brilliant! Two great ladies - the QE2 and Dame Vera!

  • Olalala Dame Vera, how many more classic beautiful voices left in this world..like yours???Grandeur lady is wat we need in the music industry

  • Her voice sounds wonderful in this!

  • WOW im 18 and a huge fan of bands such as AC/DC and guns n roses etc. Must admit i had bever heard of her untill i heard she was top of the charts this week.

So out of curiosity i looked her up on here and im shocked! what an absolute performer :) and a lovely voice for a 77 year old (if im not mistaken at this time)

  • Try looking up Nat King Cole, AND Nana Mouskouri (especially Nana singing "Even Now" which is on YouTube). What voices!

  • Sorry about that I meant thumbs up.

  • Großartige Künstlerin - Tolle Stimme und große Persönlichkeit !!

  • Dame Vera Lynn is the best and we salute this wonderful lady, now aged 92. Her spirit, legenace and beautiful voice are a delight.

  • i'm a man of the sex pistols, siouxiesue and the clash, but i can also listen to vera, it shows that there is room in the music world for all genres, and and fans of all ages, weather your a pistols or vera fan, one thing you have in common, you enjoy your gig, keep rocking vera

  • Very nicely said.

    My sentiments exactly.

  • I have always admired this great lady with such a voice of distinction at my 42 years of age i missed what she gave to so many between 39 and 45,but i have certainly loved listening to such a great lady in my later life.God bless her 92 and smashing. xx

  • Such a great woman. Helped so many people out during the War. Fantastic woman

  • You just gotta love her!

  • good o'L Vera

  • Just gotta love Vera. She epitomises all that her and her generation did for following generations. The ability of youngsters to voice their opinions in the free manner they do was down to past generations paying a heavy price to give them that freedom. Respect to all who answered the call back then.

  • Vera Lynn just sang two wonderful songs Well meet again ansd White ZCliffs ...Where do I get the CD's ?

  • A wonderful lady who marked the musical world with her smile and her voice!! 5**

  • Das ist ja einfach wunderschön. Sie ist so herausragenden...

  • This wonderful lady sums up what is good about our great country.

  • Yes, her voice sounds really great, so strong considering her age! Couldn't they have gotten her a better backing band, though? Less electric?

  • Can't expect them to sound like a 1940s big band.

  • they had "class" something we've not seen in 30 yrs from most so called entertainers..and oh yea umm im only 40

  • At 77 years old here, what a powerful voice. I bet she's great at Hot Jazz..

  • what is she doing today? Now she's 92....

  • she still sounds like she did in the 40's. Remarkable talent!!!!

  • Old time singers are the BEST>>>

  • A shining example of a tough and resilient generation - we are all better for their never say die attitude, you just gotta respect them. Great voice for a lady of some years.

  • I agree so much with your comment about that great generation of people. My parents were among them-God rest their souls.

  • Yes Q, mine had a natural sense of simplicity and toughness that I sadly miss today but maybe that is just me getting older. :) I don't know how that did it but I was raised with no fast food, tv, drugs, booze - we had home cooked food, drank water from the tap, ate at the table together, played together. I miss it badly. That generation did it tough during 2 wars and a depression but they never gave up. I have much to be thankful for.

  • She's so good! And her voice is amazing. I love her "showbiz walk" at the beginning hehe.

  • Gracias¡¡¡ hermoso ¡¡¡

  • may I ask, Is she is performing aboard the QE2?

  • beautiful vera

  • im a black teen and i only listen old classics, ths lady is the best

  • Wow, he voice hadn't really changed much at all. Beautiful, she did so much to make things just a little easier for people going through the war.

  • Such a sincere performance.

    AWESOME.

  • over the white cliff of dover and we'll meet again...both re my fav. songs...

  • woooooooooow!!!!! many singers lose their voice as they grow old, but this is just amazing, WHAT A VOICE, amazing, I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she's just great!

  • Much respect to her for picking the furthest field of war to visit lonely soldiers:The jungles of Burma. Still such a great voice. Hats off to you, Vera!

  • Beautiful! Happy Birthday lovely lady. The one and only!

  • One of the fine voices in the world !!!

    God bless this lovely woman!!!

  • all my respect! bye

  • Even at this age she has a fine clear voice, perfect phrasing, control of her vibrato. What a lady.

  • bless this treasured british icon

  • The vessel seems to be Queen Mary instead of QE2?

  • No, definately the QE2. The orignal Queen Mary is permanently berthed in Long Beach California as a floating hotel. This performance was filmed aboard QE2 as she was moored in Southampton.

  • I wonder how she feels about the song Vera Lynn by Pink Floyd

  • the band doesnt sound half as good as it did in the 1940's ...vera still sounds awesome though.

  • amazing, ..............

  • Wow---at 77 she was still fantastic!

    awesome!

  • this ladies been there all my life and what a treasure she is she's superb in every respect and realy down to earth when you meet her, like to see some of the modern singers have a career as long as this wonderful lady

  • what a real sweetheart :)

  • so beautiful

  • Vera Lynn had a wonderful voice. Still pretty good at age 77.

    ts 4 posting

  • They were the Greatest Generation for a reason. It makes me sick now when Liberal bastards in the USA and UK portray the men and women who fought in WW2 as murderers or war mongers and spit on their sacrifices.

  • Note Queen Juliana of the Netherlands in the audience singing along. x

  • I'm 18, but this makes me wish even more so that I could have lived in the 40's; to have fought in WW2 when people had honor and morals.

Watching this brings tears to my eyes.

  • She was and still is a great lady! I have loved her songs from the time I was a little girl during WW2. When she sings it still brings tears to my eyes.

  • I've loved this song and Vera Lynn ever since I heard both for the first time at the end of Dr. Strangelove. It was an admittedly jarring juxtaposition on Stanley Kubrick's part, but I think it worked. I was born in'52, and this song actually manages to make me wistfully nostalgic for a period of time somewhat before I was born!
