Colin Baker really didn't deserve to be sacked, it wasn't his fault that the episodes were violent and dark, making the 6th doctor unlikeable was a very bad idea.
Iv seen the 9,10,11 doctor and while I highly enjoyed them I never felt like I truly missed them well 9 and 10 so far anyway. After I saw all of colin bakers episodes I truly felt sad he was gone and I would never see that doctor again on the screen. Also I want that dam coat.
Brilliantly edited! Here's to Six, an unfairly disliked Doctor. Especially considering how troubled the show was behind the scenes in his era. Colin Baker will always be alright in my book :~)
@reckley I think Colin Baker was ace in Blake's Seven as the villain Bayban and I think in billions of ways Colin should have been cast as Roj Blake in Blake's Sevn instead of Gareth thomas who had no staying power.
If Colin Baker had gotten the quality of scripts back then he often gets now from the Big Finish Audio productions, he's be a LOT more people's "favourite Doctor."
@MatthewTheAstrologer Agreed, I didn't initially like him at first, but he's really grown on me. Not just with the EXCELLENT Big Finish audios he gets: when I look past how rubbish some (though not quite all, thankfully) of his old tv stories were, his Doctor really was brilliant. Hell, I think even the coat's starting to grow on me!
In many ways I compare the Sixth Doctor to the egotistical and greedy side of Daffy Duck. In fact, Daffy is perfect to play the Sixth Doctor. He (Daffy) can regenerate from the Porky Pig Fifth Doctor, who changes from the Bugs Bunny Fourth Doctor, ditto from the Foghorn Leghorn Third Doctor, likewise from the Elmer Fudd Second Doctor, and lastly the Yosemite Sam First Doctor. (Yeah, I know that's weird, but Doctor Who works for WB here in the USA.)
I love Colin, I love them all there is no such thing as a bad Doctor! They all have great bits and perhaps some not so good, but hey it's Doctor Who and we love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Slash10053 if you mean the sonic screwdriver, it was destroyed in one of the fifth doctor's stories and the sixth doctor didn't make a new one, simple as that.
@Slash10053 - he lacks the sonic screwdriver because the producer had the thing destroyed in the 5th Doctor episode "The Visitation", made 3 years earlier... JNT felt the screwdriver got overused... It's a shame. Given how overused, and so far out of context the thing has been misused since the show's revival in 2005, he would definitely NOT be happy at how frivolous the show is these days.
@JohnnyBeatdown Because the producer wanted the Doctor to be more "alien," which translated to "huge a-hole." He did become (a little) more likable as he went along, but he was always one who didn't suffer fools gladly. And since the Doctor is pretty much guaranteed to be the smartest one in the room... In fact, the actor wanted a dark, somber outfit, to go with the intended darker tone, but the producer (again) wanted something more, well, tasteless.
@kelestra Thas true! Also though, Colin Baker stated that he wanted people to start off not liking him immediately. And to sort of earn their lking him over time (since before that the Doctor's pretty much started off likable)
@tails228 I do, he is better then most actors, it's not his fault that BBC in the 80's didn't let him have control over how he acted, and what he wore.
Colin was ace in Blake's seven as Bayban, I think Colin should have been Roj Blake in Blake's seven he would have stayed around longer as Blake than Gareth thomas.
Colin was great at portraying the Doctor's dark, snarky side. Aside from the crazy coat, he was pretty much arrogant and brooding on the outside but awesome and caring on the inside, kind of like the reverse of most of the Doctor's other incarnations. It's such a shame he wasn't allowed to stay longer.
@PotatoUPrincess I think Colin was ace in billions of ways, as Bayban in the Blake's seven episode City at the edge of the World and he in my view should have been playing Blake in Blakes Seven instead of Gareththomas who pushed off after two series which I was gutted about.
@PotatoUPrincess Yea but I think that Matt Smith brings that back little bit. He is kinda sarcastic and gets angry more then the rest. I don't know about the 7th doctor at all but
8th: Was The More Charming Doctor
9th: Was kinda like the nerdy one
10: Was kinda like the ultimate legacy one
11th: Angry and Smart Mouthed (but his series keeps getting put off for other things!)
@jman19mwi, he originally had a blue costume, he lost it because of the Blue Screens they use, it normally interfered.. He was a good Doctor, he also shows it after his run as the Doctor, this is when he didn't have any freedom of what he does to act, and he wasn't able to pick a costume and such.
@jman19mwi Well, like the fifth Doctor meeting the tenth, some excuse because of a timeline and he looks older because he meets the Tenth and Eleventh, same with Tom Baker who is coming back also :D
Paul McGann yes, Eccleston: Nope, never play a role twice
Wait if the second Doctor had a TARDIS recall device, and the sixth doctor wanted it, can't he just go in the TARDIS and get it from where the second Doctor stored it?
Also: How didn't the Sixth Doctor know where they were hiding the second Doctor if he was kidnapped?
@Pizzaboyzmvp There is a theory going around that the Second Doctor did not regenerate immediately after his trial, but served the Time Lords for a while as some sort of agent, hence, his involvement in trying to stop the development of the Karts-Reimer time capsule in the 'Two Doctors' story. Obviously, when Doctor II was nearing regeneration and subsequent exile on Earth, the Time Lords would have confiscated the recall device.
@imnotsmartbutimtryin COlin Baker was ace as Bayban in, Blake,s Seven in City at the Edge of the World and in my view Colin should have been cast as Blake in Blake's Seven instead of Gareth thomas who pushed off after two series which was not good at all.
Colin wasn't the best Doc for sure - but he gets way too much flak, he was still decent in the role and I enjoyed watching him at the time. At the end of the day he is 'MY doctor', the one I grew up with, so when someone says 'Doctor who' almost immediately - an image of Colin pops in to my head :)
@v11cu96 Colin Baker was ace in Blake's seven as Bayban the Butcher, in the episode City of the World and I wish Colin had played Blake instead Gareth Thomas he would have stayed around longer than Gareth did.
God the 6th is just pure awesome. He's just such an entertaining character, he's likable even at the points where you should want to punch the guy in the face. To me there is no argument, Colin Baker played the greatest doctor.
I hate it when people bag the Sixth Doctor! He was brilliant, once you got past the attitude, but when I looked back, there wasn't too much of it. And I can't help but like the coat, it's something that even the Eleventh Doctor would say is cool
who needs David Tennant or Tom Baker when you have Colin Baker! I'm going to buy al his stories. Afterall he only has like ten of them. (What a shame he was great!)

@SuperScotty97 And when a twat like you insults me I just say: Go and murder yourself. It would be the most decent thing you will ever do. You will make everyone so happy if you did that.

@SuperScotty97 Shut the fuck up you twat. he was great. If you think you could do better by all means continue insulting people who definatley have more skill than you will ever have.
Definatley his best performance was in Mindwarp! Like so, though he is a very underrated Doctor. His era might have struggled a bit [apart from the odd story and Trial, which was awesome] which leads many people to say he was a bad Doctor. But, in hindsight, there was nothing wrong with Colin. He played the part in his own style and brought something fresh and colourfull [pardon the pun] to the role.
As much as I love Sylvester Mccoy, I wish Colin Baker had been able to spend more time in the role and mellow his Doctor out. I didn't like smug doctor so much, nor the outfit, but every post who video I've seen of Colin Baker makes him seem like one of the nicest people. I heard that his Doctor was meant to gain a more personable persona as well had the show gone on.
6 & 7 both were cut short just as soon as they were getting better.
Ha ha thanks for this little fan vid I enjoyed it and the song was indeed perfect and funny cos ofcourse in the Who world I dont think number 6 wouldve given a toss what people thought of him he was that over the top, but it sounds like Colin did indeed get a raw deal as an actor himself taking over from Davison and I dont think we'll ever truly know what the hell was going on behind closed doors during this much talked about and troubled period of the Who canon.
If the BBC had listened to him, done things his way, he would have been a much more popular doctor. He was great, the stories were shit. Put him in the Tom Baker era and he would have been one of the most popular doctors.
colin is vary good dr but not my number 1 but he is good in some of his stories like reveltion of the daleks, trail of a time lord, two doctors, attack of the cybermen but some stories like twin dimail and timelash are a bit bad
John Nathan Turner did more to hurt this series than any one other single person. I feel terrible for all the flak Colin caught for this when he didn't deserve it at all. Love you, Colin!
the major problem with the sixth doctor is the horrid costume he was forced to wear and plus the b grade scripts the actors were given to work with. john nathan turner along with some people at the BBC who wanted the series sacked caused very serious problems for doctor who in the mid eighties.
i've only seen 2 colin baker stories and they are both fantastic this video and your mini season both give colin's doctor the recognition he deserves. :) keep up the good work.
This suits Colin Baker perfectly, not just character wise but to the viewers of the programme at the time, I can't help but feel sorry for Colin (like sylvester only I prefer sylvester's incarnation) but that's because McCoy was given some control over how to play him, Colin wasn't, this sort of matches the era well, trying to prove to his companion and the audience that he wasn't that bad, i've listened to his audio adventures and they're great.
@Timelord6661 Actually, if you look up "Colin Baker interview" and click on the first one I think, it says he actually decided to play the Doctor the way he wanted to, he wanted to make him a bit more unapproachable like Hartnell, and the team went along with it. I don't think he's just trying to pacify either, since he's quite unreserved later in the interview about things, if I recall.
@Spectic But at the time of this interview, the show was still on the air, but also rapidly decreasing because of it's scheduling and poor treatment by the BBC, saying something about the senior management so soon after leaving, would have done more harm than good to the show's image at the time. Although elements of his Doctor were his idea (as in the unapproachable nature) I'd say that he agrees with the criticisms in the sense of the production team executing his Doctor's character e.g. he..
@Spectic ..spoke out against his costume in other interviews, he often joked that the best part of wearing his costume was that he didn't have to look at it, usually actors were given a choice of costume to wear, Colin's was just forced upon him, as were the scripts, he agreed with what the Doctor should be like character wise, but he felt he had no real input on terms of execution of that said character.
Wow, this is the perfect song for the Sixth Doctor and how people reacted back then. Great matching of the clips with the song! Colin's such a sweetheart in real life. :)
Colin Baker really didn't deserve to be sacked, it wasn't his fault that the episodes were violent and dark, making the 6th doctor unlikeable was a very bad idea.

colin is vary good dr but not my number 1 but he is good in some of his stories like reveltion of the daleks, trail of a time lord, two doctors, attack of the cybermen but some stories like twin dimail and timelash are a bit bad

Although elements of his Doctor were his idea (as in the unapproachable nature) I'd say that he agrees with the criticisms in the sense of the production team executing his Doctor's character e.g. he..
Timelord6661 6 months ago
@Spectic ..spoke out against his costume in other interviews, he often joked that the best part of wearing his costume was that he didn't have to look at it, usually actors were given a choice of costume to wear, Colin's was just forced upon him, as were the scripts, he agreed with what the Doctor should be like character wise, but he felt he had no real input on terms of execution of that said character.

Wow, this is the perfect song for the Sixth Doctor and how people reacted back then. Great matching of the clips with the song! Colin's such a sweetheart in real life. :)
