  • Don't mind the haters. That was awesome, man. Nice decks. And thanks for not boosting the recording with compression. Sounds great on my early '70's vintage system. I just got my first reel-to-reel deck recently. An old tube-driven Akai unit. Got a bunch of tapes too. Classic pre-recorded stuff from late '60's/early '70's. I've been feeling the r-to-r itch for a long, long time and it's nice to finally have one.

  • not to b retarded or whatever but wouldnt that screw up ur deck? lol thats awesome though what rec did u scratch w/?

  • cool.

  • wahoo!!

  • hahahaha,this is fun

  • The shit is dope..... u just spell scratch wrong.

  • cool

  • We used to call this a broken reel-to-reel, now they call it music?

  • Yep. That's called Progression mate :p

  • This is pretty groovy though!

  • Any decent keyboard can make these sounds.

  • Yeah, but it's not as much fun!

  • Somehow I think your missing the point.......

  • ur stupid, thats not the point

  • cool.......but seems to lack any skill.......

  • @freqmart

"seems to lack any skill".....? What the fuck, dude?! Whatta dick!

  • awesome work

  • DAMN! Just clicked the video without any expectations, it just looked kinda interesting. But it's much more than just interesting, this is fucking awesome!

  • Sounds like DJ R2-D2!! :D

  • Whoa!

  • This is an interesting approach, albeit expensive and highly impractical. If someone could use these effects to create something that an average listener (who is generally narrow-minded) would deem "musical", it would be impressive. Even so, I doubt this will amount to anything more than a novelty, though I bet someone like myself said the same thing about scratching back in the day. I wish people would stop using the internet's anonymity as safe-guard for making ignorant comments.

  • how did jesus get into a reel to reel video, i mean gosh i think there is another form of godwins law, the longer a youtube comment chain gets the closer it approachs a jesus / atheist argument

  • AMAzING

  • and i can play freebird.LOL

  • THATS NOTHIN i can play entersandman with my '91 blazer gas pedal.

  • "kids dont try this at home" it sounds like he already broke them and the dolphins are really pissed now

  • It Sound Like Dolphin Having sex!

  • true that

  • this is crap

  • I wouldn't consider it as a vibrato

  • Sweet

  • Eh, not bad, but I'd rather use them to record musicians than scratch with them....You'll eventually break them, and the tape.

  • what a huge waste of money...

  • wow

  • garageband drum loop.

  • Super cool, I wish analog was still popular

  • wtf japan lol

  • cool man!

  • did the voice of this get blocked or somthing ?because the sound doesn't make sense at all

  • Stupid and sounds like shit..

  • Scratching in general sounds like shit and is infantile, but the background music in this vid is really cool. Could make a great tune with it.

  • So Sick!

  • so old, already....peeps have been doing this shit since forever...cutting, splicing & dicing on the head...damn !! hello people, enough already.

find anyone that has worked in an analogue studio, specifically 2 track mastering & editing (revox) ampex 456 etc & most likely if you like this they will blow your mind..

  • Sounds awesome.

  • are these technics turtntables?

please where can i buy these decks?

i want to start cuttin' things up like grand master flash & grand wizard theodore!

  • It's a nice difference from all the DJ's with recods, but I wonder how long the average tape will hold under this abuse?

  • not long i don't think, tape is great at holding data, but the flexibility of it's makeup is naff...

  • an average tape holds about 8 years of heavy abuse.

  • that was fuckin trippy.

  • will she put out?

  • I lost 2:02 of my life for this? Totally sucked.

  • Errrr.... then why did you watch the entire video...?

  • PRETTY NEAT.

  • I love the sound this creates!!!!! It's so original and helpful to society im willing to donate all money i possess to your career, by the way are you a gods son for having this ability?!

    jk fag

  • that;s hard cd turntables has markers so the dj will know where to put the needle, how bout this?

  • the amount of tape that's on one wheel vs. the other, i could see how it's similar to vinyl. it would be possible to do with a regular mixer with a crossfader, but with less versatility. interesting concept and fun to watch live, but i feel it has short entertainment value.

  • you mean u have to measure,,? or maybe there is a time indicator for the tape shown on the monitor, i think this is only an experiment, nothing special

  • not really, you can just tell where you are. even with turntables, only people who have been working with vinyl for 10+ years can tell EXACTLY where the needle is. i've been spinning for 3yrs and i can only tell the relative position since the grooves on a record are so small. the only real problem is you can't skip to a part of the tape at the end, you have to wind it. there should be a time indicator on the tape reel, you're right. this guy's using a conversation to scratch with, no samples.

  • hmmm..interesting!!

  • Ditto.....

  • hmmm...ok

  • i would, but it doesnt exist...sorry.

hell = monsters under the bed.

  • how can you keep saying you waste time when you spend most time looking for a video and post comments..yet alone taking time to view everything for urself

  • Uhhh Scratching is with vinyl and a turn table. It is physically impossible to "scratch" with a magnetic tape. What you are doing is cross fading and changing direction and speed. BTW Sounds like shit.

  • badscirocco: Not so.

He's hand-moving an audio encoded item (tape) over a transducer (tape head). Consider the similarity to a CDJ (cd:laser) or even to a turntable (vinyl:needle).

He's also not cross-fading -- he's just interrupting the signal more like a cut, or a Transform. The rhythm of the cut is being generated by MAX/MSP (or maybe PD).

  • I think you're missing the point...

  • i like it. that's a really cool effect.

i don't think anyone understands the point. it's like scratching records. except with tapes. and it sounds cool. scratching records sounds less cool, and people have been doing that shit for years. that is why this video is good.

  • yea dude, and i dunno, but i think this is relatively 'new' never heard anyone mess arround with a reel to reel like that, though i think mix master mike started out like this with tape decks... vinyl is gettin kinda OLD

  • Why would anyone want to treat a fine reel to reel tape deck this way?

  • Comment removed

  • i don't like the music, but i'm glad to see people still using analog effects

  • q verga es esto?????

  • Youtube staff just loves to feature the most talentless bullshit. I really think they get off on wasting people's time and watching us all bitch. Big middle finger right at ya Youtube.

  • This doesn't count.

  • Thats just fucking annoying. Sorry to leave comments like this, but really... is that an attempt at music?

  • WAACCKK

  • this would be better if it sounded like music. It's just sounds with music underneath it after about the first forty seconds

  • L.O.L.

    Is Real?

  • Israel?

  • I know that, but what does that have to do with this?

  • Why do you have a desire to spread your religion to the masses? I dont go on random videos and say "Hey, there is no god, and you are all wasting your life and money worshiping a false idol." There is no reason for you to go spread your ideals, just keep them to your self please.

  • religion is bad news...i won't pray and idolize some guy that lived 2000 years ago. i hate religion, it is one of the main causes of our current world conflicts. but, i won't be mad at people who practice it and let others believe what they want, many of my friends believe in god, and that doesn't affect our friendship, but i do have a problem with people telling others what to believe. you have good intent zero, but to me, all you are doing is trying to convert people which is something i hate.

  • Ok. Well i'm sorry you feel that way. Remember that all i said was that Jesus Loves you not become a christian right now. I'm not pressuring anybody in any way. I'm simply trying to say what is true, that Jesus loves you and died for all of us.

    God Bless

  • bullshit...how would you know? You weren't there and have never met Jesus....ever.

  • Please don't impress that on me.

  • this is awesome

  • my video is better than this fool. fucking amateurs

  • Good stuff.

  • Well there you have it!!!

    An alternative to vinyl scratching!!!

  • its pretty cool, its not really what i thought it was gonna be but still its not shit or anything, if they got a few of they going at the same time, and knew how each tonal stuff would go and intertwine i think it would be pretty cool

  • phone # 1-956-580-0814

  • I'd rather listen to music.

  • its all transformation scratching...nothing special...i've seen better tape scratching from older videos in the 80's. it's cool i guess creating that auto transform button tapper...but even the transformation patterns are very basic...
