Not sure what happened to her. She was last seen about a week after they managed to crawl out of the burrow. I'm guessing she met an ill fate. I don't think she would have just left them so young. The dad has stayed around and took pretty good care of them.
There's an invisible line I can't cross. There are sometimes I can get a little closer, and other times it changes their behavior. They will even run into the burrow. I took this from inside my house. I've been able to get some great stills with the zoom, but the video option on the camera just doesn't zoom in close enough. I should get a separate video camera with a stronger zoom. I'm working on putting together a slide show of some closeup stills. Some of their expressions are priceless.
I know what you mean. My best close-up owl face shots were taken through my front window with a 34X zoom video camera on a tripod. Even though he/she perches just 10 feet from the window it still takes a powerful zoom to fill the screen with a full face shot.
Your burrowing owls have a cute and happy expression versus the more menacing barred owl looks. They hop around so much that hi-zoom close-ups would be harder to get on video I would imagine but worth the effort.
Thanks, it sure is, I was very worried about them. At least they are starting to get off the ground and will be able to fend for themselves a little better soon.
Wow, that's some zoom! I'd love to have something like that. I just use the movie option on my camera. You're pretty lucky to have them 10 feet away. Now I see how your's comes out so fantastic. I have a I think these guys are closer to 30 unless I go outside and wait for the show to begin. You're also talented with post editing. I've mostly just shot and downloaded. I really should put more into it.

It's a live comedy show this time of year. So when are you going to teach me your movie making tricks? hehe.

You are doing fine. I love close-up face shots. Can you zoom in or move your camera closer?
