  • Joe's so F@&KIn GOOD! Thank you Joe. ...got sum gum?

  • A TRUE MUSICAN!

  • I remember the very short lived " In Concert " 73,74? Where they showed the live recording and simulcast the recording on FM radio. I remember Joe Walsh in particular because he performed " Rocky Mountain Way " with mucho decibels!! Yeah I used to Piss off the neighbors on a regular basis! { but not their kids} , I wonder why the James Gang are never mentioned as true power trio?? Listen to the "Games Gang Live in Concert"at Carnegie Hall ,May 14th,15th,& 16th 1971, One of the best, ever!!!!

  • always loved james jang (joe walsh) i think him joining eagles was great for him & the eagles brouth whole new set of fans

  • Wooderson!

  • I love Joe...but I swear he sold his soul to join the Eagles....apples & oranges...I'm just sayin...just payin the bills

  • I wanna get in my SS Chevelle tokin a fatty w this on 11..and roll right back to 1972!

  • @tirehead72 yup, my 67 chevelle in highschool, smokin down jammin and laoghing all day long, them were the dayz

  • @ kepstein8888 Uh...maybe Kurt stole HIS inspiration from Joe Walsh? Look and all?

  • @gonzo13743..I think that's KURT Cobain

    Great clip

  • @ kepstein8888, I was JUST thinking ,... hey WHY does he remind me of Kirk Cobain?!?!

  • wow in the 70's i was in a power trio and we did this song...great tune...

  • How many times do you think Kurt Cobain saw this video on Closet Classics back in the 80s?

  • Jesus F''ckin' Christ....Joe Walsh in 1971 ?!?! This is the root of the best beer soaked, pot smoked rock and roll of my life...Joe Walsh man! The James Gang man !!!! Pass the f'cking bong!

  • I remember watching this on Don Kirshners rock concert back in the 70,s

  • Damn fine song. A classic!

  • #ucking brilliant !! mick in suuny hartlepool in merry england.

  • Even if nothing else came from Kent Ohio besides a massacre and an artist that always seemed to really enjoy his craft and just have fun, Kent has a lot of credit to crow about in Joe. The Eagles were lucky to get them when their careers were fading so quickly. Joe could have gone almost anywhere. Give Don Henley some credit for yielding to Glen Frye's wishes.

  • @FNOT4YOU Let us not forget Glass Harp,

I seen James Gang and Glass Harp at JB's in Kent for a Buck and a half!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The eagles were extremely famous before Joe Walsh. But what many don't know is that the eagles started with Linda Ronstadt.

  • @truealchemy2 you know shit. Pure shit.

  • I smoked a shit-load of pot and dropped a ton of acid, listening to Joe Walsh!!!

  • AH James Gang................ Joe Walsh love him! The man who Sold Jimmy Page his #1 Les Paul

  • @cnote05 AND gave Pete the guitar he recorded Tommy with, in it's entireity.

  • yeehaw

  • joes voice has for sure improved over the yeares

  • @cubsfands29 yes it has...it was all the drinking in the 70s for us then

  • Joe Walsh's old band long before he joined The Eagles. They were great and I havent seen this vid in AGES. My old gf (Barbara Placek) used to love this song and played it incessantly....can't say I "buh buh buh blamed" her..lol

  • epic, epic performance

  • Just like JB's on Water Street used to be -- so close we could touch them. Love it. Thanks for this!

  • Amazing! Joe's just a kid!! I love this.

  • One of the most underrated rock trio's IMHO!! Thanks

  • Thanks have been trying to find this band for years. Only saw a clip on a late night infomercial late night fifteen years ago. Couldn't remember the name of the band. So I had no way of looking them up. Awesome !!!!

  • Joe Walsh is an effing Genius...

  • Being from Sandusky.... we would all drive to Cleveland (1 hour or so) and watch them at different clubs from time to time. GREAT band.... !!!

  • Uhh..this sucks.

  • This kicks so much ass

  • I saw Joe and the Eagles two years ago at the New Jersey Meadowlands Giant Stadium..he hasn't lost a beat over the years. I attend the same church in Montclair, New Jersey as does his brother Frank.Frank has written and sung a couple of truly awesome songs ...some of which our local church uses in our Good Friday worship services. A good and talented man using his gifts for our Lord.

  • 3 people just walked away....

  • Great song!! Thanks for posting!

  • Great. James Gang was great !

  • Very Tight Melodic Stoner Rock

  • NICE JOB....:)

  • They Really Blew it up!!!

  • groovy and far out man great video

  • this is the o.g kurt cobain and o.g. jeff spicolli..lol

  • best version ive ever heard!

  • Saw Joe Walsh play the "Us Festival" back in 1981 or 1982 -- he was friggin' great.

  • Clean Video but the sound is wacked out!!

  • I'm lost for words...just blown away! Mainstream music really sucks now. No more raw, pure power!

  • Which one is James?

  • @mikeb33 The drummer, Jimmy Fox.

  • @mikeb33 That would be Jesse James. Hence, these guys were rock n roll outlaws!

  • I FEEL LIKE A monster

  • Some great music !

  • Joe Walsh is god!

  • This rocks! The James Gang should've stayed together. Joe mellowed-out too much in the Eagles.

  • the drummer looks like the kings of leon drummer used to look

  • @cdchantler As Jim Fox came first it would be the other way around.

  • Amazing!

  • how can ya not love joe walsh? Right there with mr. young.

  • Warped.

  • I picture Joe as more of the 11 meter type than ham. Just goes to show you.

  • @SunnBurn Joe was on the cover of a Ham magazine a few years ago.

I saw the James gang in a Cleveland battle of the bands in 1968

  • Were these really the same moves as Cobain? I don't remember Curt rocking back and forth like he had Down's Syndrome!

  • Met Walsh for one brief moment at Caribou in 76, he was so illusive and funny...years latter I saw him at the House of Blues in LA....it was too short a set and wish he played the old James Gang....but atlas...

  • Saw them live in a bowling alley in Portland OR right about this time....amazing, altered states...

  • as chef ramsey would say it's raw!!!!!

  • I'm old....I remember this when it new and one of my best LP's to wear out and buy over and over. I finally went to work for Peaches Records & could get discounts. Priceless. Your hometown guy done good!! Love the Psychedelic green screen....also priceless.

  • Killer. Joe was a genius at an early age (and didn't even know it!)

  • I saw the James Gang in a Battle of the Bands Concert in Cleveland, Ohio in 1968. Also went to Kent State where he had been a student. Also a ham radio operator. Joe is a very well known ham.

  • Stunning...fresh...rockin!

  • Fuckin' great!

  • @ sariver,,,kurt didnt have a gun so he couldnt shoot himself,oh wait a min he did have a gun,,,,splat

  • Love the white Sennheiser 421's on the drums! They don't make those like that anymore either.

  • Wow! Cool!! They don't write em like this anymore.

  • great vid and sound, they were one of the best three piece ... and cream..and...

  • Absolutely awesome clip....Walsh a guitar hero and classic rock icon. Great band too prior to Eagles. Drummer's name is Jimmy Fox, not Vox. Thanks.

  • Absolutely awesome clip! Thanks. Drummer's name is Jimmy Fox, not Vox.

  • Right on PappyHab. Those were the days....melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, and yes real musicians!

  • Happy birthday Joe!

  • great band

  • That is the dog's bollocks mate- awsome, just awsome!

  • AWESOME!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!

  • thanks.

  • was that the '59 he gave to Page?

  • Joe Walsh before he lost his mind...

  • Now THIS is rock n' roll.

  • Nice piece of history! "Allen Ginsberg was a great drummer" what a line!

  • Nothing worse than those crappy psychedelic backdrops they used for studio performances during the late 60s/early 70s. That's some ugly ass shit

  • F*ck the Eagles! James Gang = Rock n Roll!

  • I saw them for the first time on American Bandstand. I was in love with them right away!

  • THIS....is a friggin rock Band. back then you could play great melodic, heavier POP songs on your own terms and get them played on the radio. Jeez they were actually writing the songs and playing them using real instruments too! Imagine?

  • You can sure see where Kurt Cobain stole his act.

  • @sariver73 Kurt Cobain is a wanker. Please don't compare a classic to an abortion.

  • @sariver73 How would have Kurt seen this? In the description itself it says that the footage is rare, and Kurt didn't have the same resources we do today.

  • @sariver73 eh? sorry I don't see the connection between JW and CB (both I are great in their subjective eras).

  • @sariver73 Two fundamental differences. Joe Walsh is a talented musician. And he's still alive.

  • @sariver73 And they thought he was something new ??????

    Not--------

  • @sariver73 I have been saying that for a while ,dude ! Just maybe not as twisted as Kurt ,but the songs .............Insane !!

  • @sariver73 You mean a 3 piece band where the singer has blond hair AND sings? That's so unoriginal!

  • @sariver73 With a fraction of the talent.

  • the drummer is jim fox

  • saw a very young james gang at Gettysburg college a long time ago, first concert and still the best I ever saw

  • thats like saying the only good song led zeppelin did was Stairway to heaven

  • I'm 59. One good song only-smells like teen spirit. Otherwise nirvana truly sucked.

  • Joe Walsh - EAGLES (Hotel California). The James Gang were the best. I saw this concert live. My band did James Gang as a tribute at our concerts... We were just as good as JG, did a six album stint on a major label, four platinum. "Xanadu". I was bassist and played lead on the album dubs.

  • I saw Joe and the gang in 70 in columbus Ohio...I saw a bunch of good concerts there, Hendrix, Cream, allman bros,,,,,,,,however Joe was the best.....joedel

  • Joe Walsh is Awesome! I think his solo / other Band material was better than The Eagles

  • the drummer gots some hipster glasses.

  • Saw James Gang in mid-70's, Phx, Az. My first concert (15-16yrs old?) I think I drove my 1962 Chevy Nova Convertable I bought for a hundred bucks. Show tickets were $4.00, I think? For some reason, the 60's and 70's are all fuzzy! Great performance! Love the album James Gang Rides Again. Thank you for posting this video. The comments are very good; Lo-tech equipment, lyrics that are rock and roll and frequently not exactly brilliant or even understandable. Love it! justinh, yoga628.

  • Ohhhhhh the 1970's and their crappy green screens!

  • "takin my time choosn my line" any of your dumbasses even know what he talkin about? Prolly not, and its just as well. I'm not pulling my rip cord tomorrow, see ya on the other side fukkerz!!

  • I`ve heard Joe Walsh`s 80`s comercial stuff. Good God I didn`t know he was this good. This Band should have made it really big. Good ole Rock. better than todays shit.

  • Big man playing the hell out of those drums!!!!

  • I've seen the James Gang live, then and now. Somewhat different in style vs. Joe Vitale, but exceptional in his own way. A simpler drum kit and not as big a name, or ego, as many others. Nirvana? I respectfully disagree. Jimmy can blow most away, in half as many notes. I have seen other dummers on the bill getting "schooled" as they watch him after or before their set.

  • @654Cap4 absolutely agree 654...jimmy was rocking the James Gang in the 60's and never got the cred he should have...he set the tone for Nirvana and Grohl...

  • Lovely clip. Thanks. One question: what's with the strange "expanded" sound? There are big dynamic holes whenever the main lines stop, like what used to happen when you'd play back with Dolby a cassette that hadn't been Dolby-encoded. Not a big issue, but I couldn't help being curious.

  • wow!

  • Awsome!

  • Joe Walsh, a Les Paul, and a pair of cranked Marshalls. FTW. Hoo-ya.

  • I saw the James Gang in 1971.....they were awesome. Walsh was

amazing. Crowd went nuts. Played Johnny Be Good encore for about

    a half hour...........it was memorable.

  • YES!

And im #90 on the "likes" list. A BIG thumbs up for this video!

  • Walsh was a savant on guitar.

  • Some kid asked me what the 70s were like. I showed him this video. Now he gets it.

  • Holy Shit. I've been a fan of the Eagles and Joe Walsh for many years - and this song especially kicks ass - but I've never seen him like this. This look is what Kurt Cobain must have modeled his appearance after. Certified Original Grunge

  • What an Epic vid here. Joe in his most youthful PRIME, the rest of the band too. Very serious about what they do, awesome talent, no lip sycning, doin it live, doin it RIGHT !

  • Very cool. I was a student at Kent State back in the middle 60s when Joe and the James Gang would play this very song at dorm dances and in the local bars in Kent. Joe was nothing short of magical at playing that Les Paul and had some really cool effects pedals and junk even back then - a real trend setter. Those guys could really rock!

  • I saw The James Gang in the seventies shortly after Walsh left. It was okay. Fox was an excellent drummer.

  • @wksufreshair I think it was Budgie that Walsh went on to play with ...

  • @vampyros1 ... Don't think Walsh played w/ Budgie. What a great band there were, tho ! So few ppl have any idea who they are...

  • @Jackalope40 Actually, that was a 'gag' comment made in reference to a couple of others saying he'd played w/the Eagles, Byrds, etc. (you can see the 'winged' theme). Levity aside, Budgie is my all time fave 3 piece band (he said in a James Gang thread), and 'Impeccable' stands as a towering piece of musical brilliance. You, evidently, have good taste (too!)--

  • This is my all time favorite version of the song. Love the drum work!

  • I saw these guys in concert in 71- they were awesome!

  • excellent add...I gotta stop learning to read the idiot comments...oooh if I throw down I'm all of what I see and then some....get a grip, it ain't you up there, you only wish and your comments don't make you greater than what you see. Get some help and get on with it....

other than the aside, again, excellent add.

  • I'm old. I was lucky enough to see them live in the early 70's. But due to a severe case of substance abuse the only thing I remember was that it really rocked. It was one of those Day of Rock things where they had about a dozen bands . Started around noon and went into the night. Poco and Mountain were the only others I remember being at that particular show. There's a video here of Joe at Clapton's Crossroads guitar festival playing straight blues. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out.

  • Simple. But, not really.

  • Nirvana was all that he just didn't know it :(

  • Hello Donny; this is how to play this song on drums !!!

  • Omg, this is great!

  • OMG...talk about RARE...thanks a million for adding! One of my all time favourite tunes and the LIVE version has always been the best...I have it on a rare J.G. Live CD.

  • pretty cool

  • I saw them at the Mentor Hullabaloo for a one dollar cover charge which was refunded because there were only 5 people in the audience.

They played great that night for their 5 fans !

  • Allen Ginsberg was a great drummer!

Much love for the James Gang, though ;D

  • @WindPilgrim : LMAO....I never connected the similarities, but your RIGHT .

  • @WindPilgrim

allen ginsberg the poet? multi talented indeed! ; )

  • HOWL!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Big James Gang fan from way back . Didn't one of those guys have a recurring role on The Drew Carey Show for a while ?

  • @LJH70122 Well, you must be referring to Joe Walsh (orange t-shirt) lead singer/guitarist. frequently appeared on the Drew Carey show.

  • @dlifeon Nothing gets past you , huh ? Except maybe irony . It was a joke . Not a good joke , obviously. I was a Joe Walsh fan for many years before I even heard of Drew Carey. I knew who he was.

  • @LJH70122 C'mon man how could a way back James Gang fan not know that? Sarcasm escapes a lot people.

  • @dlifeon Okay. I get it now. I thought you missed my sarcasm , while I was missing yours. Anyway , we both agree that this is a great song by a great band. (That is not meant to be sarcastic in any way)

  • @LJH70122 Comedy is in the ear of the beholder. I just wish I had seen this band or the Eagles when I had the chance. 'Cause before the Eagles did their first comeback tour I had never heard of Joe Walsh, I missed all the antics of the " Bomber". Not only is he one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time, but also, a crazy stage performer. Ah, youth its so wasted on the young. If only my time machine could take me back to 1968.

  • Everything Kurt Cobain wished Nirvana could be.

  • @TruthAxe there good songs were great, but the rest was mediocre. nirvana was all quality goods. and just as tight as jg at their peak

  • @TruthAxe I thought of Kurt when I heard Joe sing. There's a similiarity in their vocals. But saying this is everything Kurt wished Nirvana could be is a bit much. Nirvana was/is one of the most successful bands of all time and their style influenced who knows how many vocalists/musicians. I'm not selling the James Gang short. The fact that people still listen to them after 40 years is a testament to them.

  • @TheJman2600 McDonalds has been hugely successful -- billions of burgers sold -- and their style has influenced countless other fast-food eateries. Does that mean McDonalds food is flavorful or spectacular?

If you want to sell more, you appeal to where the most are -- the lowest common denominator.

Cobain was a hack guitarist who couldn't sing backed by BRILLIANT marketing executives who made Nirvana famous through clever hype, which appealed to the LCD.

  • @TruthAxe I like what you said; so many young people dont understand what a special era the 60's & 70's were, rock was still being created, there were people who came about with a truly original sound that was like nothing that came before them. Marketing then, compared to later on, was a joke almost; the marketing industry was being built almost the same time in a way, as the 'new' rock sounds coming out.

The James Gang 1971 was pure, real, American rock.

  • @TruthAxe ... Hack or not, Cobain wrote catchy, simple songs that happened to appeal to a lot of ppl at the right time. He was pissed off, and the "LCD" latched on. Even if you don't like Nirvana, it's kinda hard to minimize the effect they had on music at that time.

  • @Jackalope40 Hacks or not, McDonalds sells catchy, simple, hamburger-like hamburgers that happen to appeal to many. Even if you don't like McDonalds, it's kind of hard to minimize the effect they have had on restaurant industry, eating, and society.

Hendrix and Morrison (Doors) still get massive radio play. Nirvana hardly does.

Can anyone name one band given a record contract at the time of Nirvana because they sounded like Nirvana?

The Nirvana meme needs to die. So overhyped. So unworthy.

  • @TruthAxe LMFAO!!!! Nirvana songs get played all the time on radio you fucking moron!!!

  • You amuse @bugmusk6. Only illegal Mexicans and the poor listen to radio any more. HA HA HA.

    So who is the moron?

  • @TruthAxe

ya...but Nirvana had a better drummer

  • @TruthAxe You are so right.

  • @TruthAxe yes, but not even close, all kurt cared about was drug filled gloom and depression.. james gang was just pure real rock n roll..

  • Great to see this! Love all JG stuff. My friend and I used to hang out at Cleveland Hopkins airport in the 70's to meet musicians, and we always ran into Jimmy and Dale, they were always so nice.

  • Oooh nice! Thanks for the great rarity!

  • Great video. I went to Kent State and saw them in Canton in 1968.
